Oscar’s specializes in custom designed jewelry and also fine watches like Rado, Longines, Movado, ESQ, and Bulova, just to name a few. We pride ourselves in carrying exclusive brands such as «Hearts on Fire» (The World’s Most Perfectly Cut Diamond), Cordova, Gabriel & Co., Benchmark, Bentelli, and many more. All of our loose diamonds are GIA and EGL certified. Our diamonds are all conflict free. Oscar also focuses on fine color stone jewelry and he is proud to sell emeralds from his country Colombia. These emeralds from Colombia are known to be the best emeralds in the world. We also carry a large selection of religious jewelry, gold, sterling silver charms and Estate jewelry.

For our customer’s convenience, we provide watch and jewelry repair on premises. We take pride in our custom design jewelry. All of our knowledgeable and friendly staff is committed to give the best service every time and with every customer.

History

Established in 1977.

Oscar’s Watch & Jewelry was established in 1977 by Oscar Serna. Oscar’s passion for watches, though, came at an early age:

«I was 14 years old when I worked on my first watch. I developed an interest for the craftsmanship and repair of fine time pieces. From 1970 – 1975, I attended Gem City College in Quincy, Illinois and graduated as a certified technician in the craft. In 1977, I opened my first store 3 miles south of Downtown Chicago in the well-​known Bridgeport neighborhood.»

In addition to his involvement in the jewelry business, Oscar is an avid fisherman, bicyclist and gardener. Overall, you could call him the American outdoorsman. He and his family are actively involved in the 5P– Society due to his personal experience with their pride and joy, Esmeralda.

Oscar’s is affiliated with the Jewelers Board of Trade, GIA and the Dun and Bradstreet Corporation. Additionally, he is involved in many community charities and non-​profit organizations such as:

My family has known Oscar for a very long time. So when it came time to look for engagement rings my parents insisted we go there. We first went to some big name places and downtown. Some places were very helpful and we even found the ring I wanted at one. Before we settled we decided to go to Oscar. Thank god we did. He custom made the ring of my dreams and put the most beautiful diamond in the most amazing setting. Yes you can tell I love my ring! He did such a wonderful job and even helped my fiancé surprise me a little by not letting me know when it would be finished. I recommend him to anyone that has an idea what they want because he can custom make anything!

Oscar’s carries Pandora, which is a favorite of my mom’s and sister’s. I can always come here and get help picking out just the right charm or piece of jewelry for them (or me). They are a «Gold» store, which means they have a large selection of the Pandora collection.
They also carry «Hearts on Fire» diamonds. My husband got a great deal on some earrings for me from that collection. Well, actually I got the great deal and made it easier for him. They have great sidewalk sale deals and will also offer Pandora sales.

I found this place via Unilocal and ventured in minus the 3.5 star review. I was a little apprehensive to get a watch battery & some links removed but I figured that it’s such an easy procedure that I could risk it.
Am I glad I went? Yep. I was greeted by Oscar himself and 2 of his friendly employees, and they managed to take care of my watch in less than 20 minutes (my meter didn’t run out so that was an added plus lol).
I hear they are known for making custom pieces so I’ll be back from my upcoming birthday.

When shopping for my engagement ring, I took my time and did my research. I went to every big box store, ever little shop, and visited many stores on Jeweler’s row. After being drained from the experience I came to Oscar’s on the advice of a friend who bought his engagement ring from there.
It was the not only the best value but the best experience I have ever had during any big purchase. They make you feel like a friend and not a customer. They answered every question, they helped me find exactly what I was looking for. Every time I call or go into the store, they know exactly who I am.
The entire staff is incredible, and I highly recommend using this store if you are shopping for jewelry.
On top of all that, the ring was custom made and it is the most gorgeous ring you will ever see. My wife gets compliments on it every single day. People ask about it constantly, the photographer and videographer at our wedding even want to feature it in some of their pieces.
Thanks to all the staff for all their hard work and dedication. I am more than happy that I have found a place that I can put my confidence in and continue to do business with moving forward.

I’m extremely pleased with my experience for watch repair at Oscar’s. I needed the bracelet of my watch with ceramic links put back together after dropping it more than a year ago. It was in so many pieces I didn’t even know how many links would be required to fit my wrist again. Thanks to the entire team for being extremely patient with me. Great customer service!

I brought in a dimond ring with larger stone surrounded by small ones, yes, my ring is older and I had to bring it in because the larger stone fell out, luckily I was able to find it. I also brought in a watch with a scratched glass to be replaced. I picked up my jewelry and within two weeks my ring lost two small stones and the glass on my watch fell right out. I brought my ring back and the stones were replaced, I paid for this and my watch was agan fixed free of charge. Again, I brought home my jewelry and now three stons fell off my ring within several weeks and the watch fell apart again.
My problem with this whole thing is, I would think that they would have taken a good look at the ring all together to ensure the stones would all be secure and made recommendations when I picked it up. And to have to bring my watch in 3 times to repair the same simple thing, I found this outrageous. After leaving various messages to Oscar, I was finally able to reach him and he apologized and asked that I bring my jewelry in for the fourth time. At which time I became too busy to even bother and I finally gave up on them.
In terms of customer service, when I came in the store I stood around for at least 15 minutes looking for service, came in my work out cloting and was not taken serious, I had to ask for help and the girl at the counter was rude and appeared to not be interested in showing me any jewelry, I’m thinking she may have thought I could not afford to make a purchase there or something, needless to say from a sales standpoint, I was baffled.
Shortly thereafter, I had a great accomplishment in my life and wanted to gift myself with a piece of jewelryand I usually prefer to support my local business’ but there was no question about it, oscars would not be getting my business, if they can’t do a simple repair, then I will not be returning there at all.

I went there to get my son’s gold necklace cleaned and they STOLE the original necklace and replaced it with another. When I complained they lied and insisted it was the same necklace. The necklace had sentimental value to my son because it was given to him by his uncle who died. I should report them to t he State’s Attorney’s office with a written complaint. HORRIBLE PLACE to do business.

Updated! 6 months after I first go the ring, I am officially without a ring and we ARE going to a different store entirely.
After the first 2 diamonds fell off, they told me that the reason was because the setting/​band was weakened during the resizing process, and they had a new band made in my size.
10 days after they had given me the ring back, completely remade with a new band in my size, ANOTHER diamond falls off. So, clearly the resizing had nothing to do with it, and it was just badly made. This was the final straw (count it — that’s 3 total diamonds falling out within a 6 month period) and we took back the ring, got our money back, and are going to try again at a new place.
Would not recommend Oscar’s to anyone after this — truly, truly awful experience. :(

Took my watch there a couple of times to get the battery replaced. Took a few days each time which isn’t that big of a deal. Then I decided to try and get the crystal replaced on it because it had a small scratch on it. That took several weeks to get my watch back. A couple of days later the crystal they put just fell right out. I took it back and the girl told me «oh we didn’t know the watch had to be sealed». How do you not know a water proof watch has to be sealed? So they said they are going to take care of it for free. A couple of weeks later I get a call from them saying it’s going to be $ 45 to fix it. I explained the situation (why would I pay to fix something they broke?). So again they tell me they will take care of it. A few weeks later I get my watch back and once again a few days later the crystal they put in it falls right out (this time breaking in 3 pieces). What a waste of time and money.

I did not purchase any jewelry here but I did come here to get my engagement ring resized at the new location (still on Halsted but opposite side of street). It was $ 40 and I got the ring back a day and a half later. Two women helped me out and they were both extremely helpful and lovely. They also both gave me some information about how to care for my ring.
Highly recommended for resizing and jewelry. Lots of pretty things will catch your eye!

I recently purchased a beautiful engagement ring at Oscar’s Watch and Jewelry. I worked with several members of the staff and the experience was truly memorable. The staff works diligently to assist you in finding whatever makes you, the customer, happy. Oscar, the owner, helped me pick out the stone. He is one of those rare people that you meet and instantly feel like you have known your entire life. He has a very, very kind demeanor and a great sense of his customers needs. He also had a laser like focus on what I liked, and what I was not so crazy about. I want to recommend anyone with Jewelry needs to ABSOLUTELY choose Oscar’s Watch and Jewelry in South Chicago. I was referred to him by an old friend and customer of his who raves about how many customers he has satisfied over the years. He was right, the product/​service offering was outstanding and I could not have been happier. More importantly, my new fiancé CAN’T take her eyes of this flawless diamond!

One of my favorite shops in Chicago.
The staff is friendly, courtious, not pushy, fun, and knowledgable. They will give ohnest opinions in an attempt to insure that their customers are happy. I know generations of families that have gotten their marriage and engagement rings from Oscar’s.
They stand 100% behind their work, and produce great work that I beleive outshines the major chains.
Go to kay jewlers, look at their selections, and the staff people who only know how to calculate commision. Then go to Robinson Bros. you will find THE EXACT SAME SELECTION, and the same sales people, then go to Rogers and Holland, you will see THE EXACT SAME SELECTION and the same sales people, then go to Jared and you will find THE EXACT SAME SELECTION and the same sales people. (Trust me I did this)
Then go to Oscar, actually find what you want and it won’t be a cookie cutter Chinese imitation (or even better, custom made), and the price will be better, and the same salesperson will wait on you at the sale, the fittings, the rework, and the maintenece of your item, for years to come.

A REAL GEM ON THE SOUTH SIDE
Oscar is absolutely the BEST MAN to help you pick out an engagement ring! His personality shines as bright as the rocks he sells in his shop. Oscar was really patient in answering my questions and explaining the diamond buying basics (the 4 C’S). I came in with an idea, and he helped me design a ring that my fiancée loves. Compared to the other jewelers that I visited, Oscar was the most helpful and reasonably priced. We are definitely going back to Oscar’s for our future jewelry needs.
