Bizarre is the word that keeps coming to mind when I think about the haircut I came in for today.
Being the procrastinator that I am, I had an afternoon free to finally schedule a cut so I jumped online and came across Patrick. Luckily he was available!
I’m pretty laid back with my hair so I wasn’t asking for anything complicated and since he reminded me SEVERAL times about the 40+ years of experience he had, I was sure i’d be a piece of cake.
And then the consultation started… after giving him a quick rundown of what I was looking for, he began telling me everything that was wrong with my hair. Whatever, like I said, I’m laid back when it comes to my hair. It got really uncomfortable when he asked me to hold his hand while he has talking to me about my hair! Huh? I politely refused and laughed it off because I felt it was completely unnecessary, a bit forward for someone I just met and I don’t like touching anyone’s hands. This must have offended him because he [almost sarcastically] asked my permission to touch my hair to brush it out. Um yes, you’ll have to touch my hair to cut it but we don’t have to hold hands.
Just like other reviewers said, he talks about himself a LOT… he also had a lot of stories. Definitely shared more than I cared to know but I just listened and let it pass the time.
Cut came out good. I’ve had cuts I’ve liked better from other young stylists so maybe 40 years experience doesn’t always mean better work. Nonetheless I was satisfied. He used Moroccan Oil and Kerestase which are both favs of mine.
I would go back for a cut in the future and maybe ask for no small talk during the service.
Patrick obviously loves what he does but maybe comes on a but too strong. I appreciate his effort (and availability last minute on a weekend) so I did end my appointment with a generous tip and a handshake.
Definitely not for everyone.

Don’t do it. It really kills me to leave a bad review… but if I can save another girl from what I went through I guess it’s worth it. I bought the ombré highlight deal off of Groupon & was extremely excited to get it done. I told him my hair history & showed him pictures & thoroughly explained how I wanted the finished look to end, being that the first hr I was there he was talking about himself and his life and how we was a «long hair colorist specialist.» He was extremely invading with personal conversation & cut me off every time I did answer a question.
During the application, he was extremely rough and careless. His equipment was broken. He didn’t use a toner. He missed pieces of hair. When he took the foils out he was again rough. His blow dryer didn’t have a diffuser. Then I saw the results off an extremely brassy, blonde, stair stepped highlight. There was no blending, no even color.
When I told him I wasn’t exactly pleased with the results he acted like he didn’t see the problem & was busy. He said he would fix it… I waited for another person to get their hair done then he sat me back in the chair and I began to show him the issues & he said he didn’t see any & he thought it looked nice. At this point after waiting & being in the chair for so long, I was so frustrated I just left.
Worst salon experience & complete waste of my Saturday afternoon & money. I was totally bummed.

Wow, there are many Patrick bashers out there but I am not one of them. I also bought the $ 25 coupon for cut/​gloss/​blowout and Yes, he did try to charge me MORE as he said I had long hair, well…1 inch below my shoulder? I refused and joked that all the Unilocalers told me he would do that so he backed off. I was a bit surprised at the salon which resembles a barber shop, he was much older and unkemp than I expected and he does tell a LOT of stories… BUT…I got a great haircut! I was very nervous that he would cut it too short, I also asked for layers which he ignored but what I got was a very basic straight across cut, the edges of my hair look and feel thick and after 1 month it still looks great. I think he beveled the edges or something but I like it! The Gloss treatment was also fabulous, my hair still feel silky and shiny! Well worth $ 25!

Unfortunately, I had a very bad experience. My hair was severely damaged at the root from the straightening treatment I received in mid-​December 2012. While the treatment was being done, I spoke up twice with concerns. I said that the flat iron heat seemed far too hot. I also said during the flat ironing that the iron seemed to be held still (not moving) at my scalp for too long. Both times Patrick said that he had 40 years of experience and knew what he was doing. This treatment was very different from other straightening treatments at different salons, and the high heat on my scalp and his lack of concern when I spoke up about the heat made the whole thing feel very wrong.
As a result of the high heat of the treatment, all of my hair was singed at the scalp. First, a day after the treatment, my scalp scabbed up. Then as my hair grew out, the damage line of broken and bent hairs became more visible. At the damage line, it looks like a razor has roughed up my hair in an even circle around my head. Half of the hairs are bent. The other half are breaking or broken which has resulted in a forest of little baby hairs that stick straight up!
I brought this to Patrick’s attention 6 weeks after and he did apologize and provided a free deep conditioning. However, my hair is completely damaged. There is nothing to do but wait, inch by inch, until the hair grows out long enough to cut it off at the damage line and start over. I don’t dislike him or wish him ill, but it is due to this treatment that my hair has been severely damaged. I needed to finally write this review so that anyone seeking chemical/​heat straightening is made aware of the risks.

Despite the mixed reviews I decided to give Patrick a try with a $ 25 haircut, gloss and style through lifebooker. When I walked in I was quite surprised by his appearance, a tall, big guy in leather attire whose hands smelled of smoke. He was funny, rather cooky and I felt as though he wasn’t really listening to what I was saying. But after putting my worries and hesitations out of the way I decided to relax and enjoy the experience. He nailed it. He cut my curly hair perfectly and three weeks later it still feels great and styles well. He took his time, understood what I wanted and was entertaining. Overall, I quite enjoyed the unconventional experience and would definitely return.

2 stars? These people are obviously a bit uptight. I really enjoyed the two times I went to patrick for my highlights and cut. I am 22 years old and I can say that my layering does not look 80’s. He was trained by paul mitchell himself and has the most fascinating stories. It might be my personality where I can endure strong characters and really enjoy learning from people, but patrick is great convo and does really good highlights. He really does alot of highlights whereas other stylists in the city are very chinsy when it comes to partial vs. full. Anyways, I hope patrick can work on getting some better reviews since I’ve had nothing but good experiences with him.

Patrick is the one place that doesnt over trim! Everywhere else you ask for a trim and half your hair is gone, but here he truly only removes the 1″ you ask for.

I have been looking for someone to understand my crazy curly hair and I have been unsuccessful until I found Patrick Anderson! In a matter of one single visit, he did magic to it… I felt his passion to work with hair as he took the time to examine and understand my hair, at that point I had the confidence to leave my hair on his hands.
It has been a while since I’m completely satisfied with a haircut and when I walked out of Patrick’s salon, I was so happy to see what he did to my hair. I finally found a haristylist who not only understands hair but he is very artistic.
I highly recommend to pay a visit to Patick Anderson so you can experience the amazing results. Looking forward to get my color done as soon as I’m due…

While Patrick is nice and seems to know what he is doing, his styles are outdated. I was very unhappy with my haircut, not because he didn’t do it well, but because it looked as if it were from another decade (circa 1985, perhaps?).
I don’t like to give bad reviews, but I felt as though this salon were marketed toward young women (I bought a Lifebooker for my hair cut) when really it seems to be a better barber shop.

I went here several months ago after finding a coupon on Groupon Now… biggest.mistake.ever. I finally am calm enough to write a review without being absolutely nasty (which is how my hair looked after I walked out of the salon – sigh).
Not only was I horribly uncomfortable in the salon after this man was 30 minutes late for the appointment but we were alone in the salon for quite sometime… it gave me an icky and creepy feeling. My instincts told me to run but I desperately needed my highlights touched up for an event that evening so I decided to suck it up. I really, really shoulda ran.
First and foremost this guy thinks he knows best and will not listen to what you are looking for on your hair. You ask for blonde highlights and he tells you ‘no’ can’t do it on your hair. Too damaging… Um…ok? ODD because I currently have blond highlights and have had them most, if not all my life. Then, we finally settle at «subtle blond» highlights all over. No hair cut… thank god.
He chatted up a storm (which is fine, better me than him) BUT all his talking must have distracted him while putting the color on my hair. He was SLOPPY and hasty the entire time. Something just seemed OFF… honestly (and I’m not trying to be rude, but honest) I think he was on something, or drunk, or something. He was slopping the color around onto the foils so flamboyantly that it started splashing… looking back, the whole scene was comical. However, not so comical when it’s your hair being toyed with.
Apparently this man has years and years of experience, expertise, awards, etc. That is all good and dandy but I really feel he needs to get some current training under his belt before he destroys more hair. To my understanding he took some time off from the hair world… this is fine… but please, please make sure your skills are up to date before you come back to coloring hair. Women love their hair… my hair defines my look and to have it ruined for as long as it took before I was able to correct it was horrifying. I was embarrassed to go to work even… much less go out.
Back to what actually happened to my hair. Ok, not only did he try to upsell my coupon by adding on all these crazy conditioning treatments (that did nothing, mind you) BUT the worst part is he turned my hair (now brace yourselves) ELECTRIC YELLOW. No, the highlights were not golden, or champagne, or even brassy for that matter… nope, not at all! They were flippin’ NEON yellow!!! I looked like someone dipped my head in glowstick. My face must have looked HORRIFIED when my hair was finally dried in the mirror because he reassured me it was the lighting in the salon. Right.
Point being. Never. Ever. Ever. get your hair done by him. Stay away, unless you enjoy the neon look.

Patrick Anderson gave me a hair straightening — keratin treatment that was free of formaldehyde. I am very thankful for that!
A week later, my hair is in great shape! Thanks Patrick!
My biggest concern was being formaldehyde free… so mission accomplished in achieving smoother, silkier hair!

Stay far away — thought I was getting the Lifebooker special but he charged me $ 70 for a haircut — and you’re in a small, rundown neighborhood-​y type mom and pop hair salon. Even the Lifebooker site displays his regular price for cut and conditioning is $ 65, but when I asked him he gave me some BS that he used three conditioning treatments on me and the Lifebooker price doesn’t include a blowout. Why NONE of this was explained to me BEFORE he did just went ahead an did it, knowing I’d booked it on the Lifebooker special, he didn’t say.
Not worth the money and all he does is brag about himself the whole time. Kind of creepy. I liked the haircut at first –before I found out he put $ 70 on my credit card — but my friends tell me it looks dated, like a 70s do. Awesome.

Resumes only tell part of the story. Sadly, my experience with him was not a dream, it was really a nightmare. This man was rude (answering his phone while I was mid-​sentence), condescending («We can make you look… decent») and frankly just a piece of work («I didn’t even have my lunch break» — when we saw him in the break room when we arrived — and really not my problem). I was in his chair for nearly 2 hours for a consultation and left looking worse than when I came. He spoke down to me and when I offered a picture of what I was looking for, he explained that my hair would ‘never look like the photo because your hair is blonde and this photo is brunette’. Well, I get that. When I tried to explain what I liked about the style in the photo, he came back to ‘YOU are BLONDE — THIS is BRUNETTE’. Ugh. And did I mention there was another client waiting (1.5 hours) for her hair to be dried?
Don’t do it. Don’t waste your time. Don’t waste your money. Run don’t walk away from this man. Don’t go down the stairs… ask for someone who works in the Salon on the upper level — you won’t be sorry there.

Patrick Anderson is a colorful character and a talented craftsman. Simply put, I’ve always been very happy with his work. And it never, ever looks like «I just got a haircut.» Gentlemen, if you’re ready to spend more than ten bucks on a haircut, I think you’ll find that it makes a very real difference — and Mr. Anderson has significant experience and serious skills.

Patrick is a superb stylist who takes his job to an artisan level. Getting a cut from him feels like he’s carving and pulling you out from stone as opposed to pushing you into a template. He is excellent if you are looking to «recreate» yourself without going wild as he approaches hairstyling like an artist. Upon repeat visits you realize how he is continually thinking about the concept of who you are professionally and personality wise. Depending on your needs and personality he will go as wild «mod» or restrained. My resulting hairstyle feels professional, balanced, clean with a modern touch that is sincere and matching to my needs.
Your initial will probably surprise as he is not a hyper polished stylist in an über posh salon and he definitely holds interesting conversations. But you can tell he is very dedicated to his craft, has a tremendously solid background and is very interested in understanding his client’s personality. The results I have gotten from him are very modern & chic and I am very happy. If you are looking for «conceptual» change (and continual growth) in a non-​pretentious environment for a balanced, chic and rounded look I highly recommend him.

While reminiscing with friends about the worst haircuts we’ve ever had on our lives, I was reminded of this place.
I told Patrick to trim up my ends, take off 2 inches max.
He took off close to 6, while trying to ‘even the sides up’.
Now I don’t know what it is about men mistaking 2 inches for 6, but it really needs to stop right now. This was about 3 years ago, so mercifully my hair has grown back, but the ire has never subsided. I rue the day I ever used one of those emailed Salon promotions and wound up here. Pretty City? Chicago Beauty? Damn you!
My only other memory was of the overly familiar stories Mr. Anderson was telling me as I sat in the chair, which made me slightly uncomfortable. It was an awful experience, and I spent my entire bus ride home in tears.
