My very annoying, needy, jumbo sized dog has been going to this daycare, with taxi service, as well as long term boarding, for many years… even prior to Bruce’s ownership. I have never had any problems with this facility. Juan must love my dog because he whines so much at the window for a good half an hour before Juan comes to taxi him to daycare. Alicia, also, does such skilled, beautiful grooming on my jumbotron pup… and I know that can’t be easy… He is 90 lbs of nervous energy being groomed. Alicia has never once complained. They even sell my guy’s favorite food, Taste of the Wild, and drop it at my house with my pup. I had a very bad experience with the first Urban Pooch when it first opened and, though it looks so pretty and perfect, I find my little Western Avenue storefront daycare to be of a Much Better Quality. And watching my baby play with his pals on youtube is always the highlight of my week. And to see him with the same «usual suspects» (i.e. also longtime clients) week after week after month… is definitely a testament to the great care these animals get at Paws and Claws.

This review is a long time coming, I’ve been taking my pup Roscoe here for about a year now. He usually goes to daycare at least once a week and he has also boarded with Bruce and staff and it’s been amazing service all around.
First of all they offer taxi service pick up and drop off for $ 4 each way which is pretty cheap in my book. I enjoy a happy hour after work sometimes so knowing I don’t need to run back to pick up my pup is extremely convenient. Also the guys who come pick up the pups are wonderful. Roscoe is so happy to see them every time they walk through the door
Alicia works the front desk and every time I talk to her she is so sweet and extremely helpful. Roscoe and I don’t have a set schedule so I can always call ahead and schedule him to come in and they accommodate him, no questions asked.
If you are looking for an affordable, reliable and convenient daycare/​boarding place, paws and claws is for you. Roscoe practically drags me down the street when he sees Paws and Claws, I know he’s safe and happy when he’s there. Thanks guys!

We were left last minute without boarding for our dog over the holidays. A friend suggested calling Paws and Claws and I’m so glad we did. They were super friendly from our first phone conversation and very accommodating with scheduling. My dog usually isn’t the most outgoing pup, but the first day she was there she came home exhausted b/​c of how much fun and socializing she was doing. She did so well, she was not hesitant in the least when we came back to drop her off again. They are a no cage boarding facility and there is always someone there with the dogs. While traveling over the holidays our flight was canceled and we were delayed in returning three days — there were no worries whatsoever with Paws and Claws. They also sell dog food, we told them to just charge a bag as we were out with the extra days and they did — absolutely no hassle. They are now our go to boarding and dog food store! Thank you for making everything so easy and taking care of our Gracie!

I boarded my cat at Paws and Claws for 5 days last fall. When I dropped him off I asked if I could see the room where he would be staying and I was told that they couldn’t because there were other cats nearby and there were issues with liability. Okay, fine. While out of town I called twice to check in and both times I was told that he was doing great and there were no problems. When I arrived to pick him up I noticed that he had some dark smudges on his nose and lips. When I got home and took him out of the kennel I discovered that they were scabs and scrapes. It looked like he had done it to himself by trying to shove his face through a fence or grate. He was also very skittish. I called Paws and Claws and upon telling them that my cat had been injured while under their care was immediately connected to the manager. He apologized and said he would look into which employees had been taking care of my cat and if anyone had noticed anything. He called me back the next day and said that my cat had been very standoffish for the first day or so but then warmed up, and that no one ever noticed he had cuts on his face. He said that the room where my cat had been staying did have some latticework which could have been where he had been rubbing his face, but he had never had any issues before. He suggested that he might have smelled one of the other cats nearby.
I’m upset because I called to check in and was told more than once that my cat was doing great, only to arrive and see him with scrapes on his face. Had someone told me ahead of time that he had cut himself on something, I would have been completely understanding. He’s an animal and he’s in a strange place, it’s not that surprising that he would be a little anxious or upset. But the fact that no one told me anything or perhaps didn’t even notice is why I won’t be returning to Paws and Claws. The scrapes were not subtle, I have pictures to prove it. The manager was apologetic and concerned, but the explanation I was given was basically ‘your cat is weird and this has never happened before.’ He made no offer of a discount or any reassurance that it wouldn’t happen again if I came back. The staff seemed nice, I just wish someone had noticed that my cat was hurt and had notified me.

I wish I could give more than 5 stars! My puppy goes to daycare several times per week and she loves it! She starts pulling on the leash when we get close and cannot wait to get through the door.
Alicia and Jay are awesome! They are both very knowledgable and give great advice. They truly love all the dogs in the Paws & Claws family!

I bring one of my dogs to Day Camp every day. She loves it and I love that her puppy energy is almost fully expended when I pick her up after work.
I also use their dog walking services for my older dog. He doesn’t like a lot of action and just wants to sleep all day. Jay and Juan are awesome, trustworthy and so warm with my grouchy old dachshund.
And of course, the grooming and the boarding — excellent there too! I highly recommend this company for everything!

After 7years and a move to a neighborhood 30 minutes away, we still rely on Alicia to do an amazing job grooming our Lhasa Apso. He always comes back home clean, blow dried beautifully and happy because she treats him so well.

We have been taking our two Weimaraners Ouzo and Meli to Paws and Claws for a while now after some bad experiences with another local place. We initially started with having Juan come over to walk the dogs a few times a week. We liked him instantly. We also take the girls here a few times a week for daycare. We love the entire Staff. Every single person genuinely cares about our dogs, and its obvious. Bruce is the owner and is so helpful. There have been a few times we really needed help quickly and he always comes through. Jay and Alicia are awesome too. Its such a relief to have a place we take the dogs to that we don’t have to worry about a thing. It also was a very very big deal to me to find a place that has 24 hour staff for boarding. It never made sense to me that people would leave dogs alone in a building to sleep. Before we started using Paws and Claws for everything I think we boarded the dogs maybe 2 times. By April of this year we had used them for 17 days of boarding for work reasons and Im sure the dogs missed us less than we missed them! I bring my dogs in to get them treats sometimes and Jay gets so excited to see them. They always give me training tips and helpful advice. If I could give 50 stars I would. I tell everyone I can about how great they are. Its such a big deal to me to have people that care and its not just about making money by having as many dogs as possible in one space as a lot of other places are.

Paws & Claws is fantastic. We take our dog, Ernie, to get a bath & get his nails trimmed about every few weeks, and they’re always so accommodating when scheduling. Alicia is wonderful and Ernie absolutely loves her, which makes dropping him off that much easier. Highly recommended.

What a great place to take a dog for daycare! My poor Ava passed last month and we went to Petsmart for 10 years and while no complaints, nothing spectacular. I just adopted a very scared and nervous puppy from CACC so I though I would try a neighborhood doggie day camp.
A couple points about Paw & Claws:
1) Had to carry Cassidy in the first day, almost jumped through the door on the second visit. She loves this place!
2) Cassidy is not house broken so having an outside area for her to play in and do her business reinforces her potty training. It has been a big help.
3. The staff is great! Bruce just took over ownership at the end of last year and Alicia, Jay, and the rest are just the greatest. You can tell they really care about the dogs in their charge.
4. Did I mention the outdoor area? Watching the pack play together and interact with Cassidy is really something. She needed socialization in a bad way and she now just loves playing with other dogs, not something she was into before we started coming here.
Cassidy really is family here and I can’t recommend Paws & Claws enough.

Paw’s & Claw’s is lifesaver! I recently adopted my baby bunny, Riley, and needed to trim her nails. I called Petco and various local grooming stores. This was the only place that offered rabbit grooming. The owner and Alicia are very nice and knowledgable of all types of animals. They offer grooming for birds, rabbits, cats, dogs, you name it! They can do it! The store is very pet friendly and clean. Will definitely bring Riley back for her nail trimmings here!

Great place in the neighborhood for Dog Grooming! I’ve used them twice and have been very happy both times. Oliver my MaltiPoo was very matted before his last visit, the Dog flu had me scared and I avoided the groomer longer then usual. Alicia was very understanding and didn’t make me feel like a terrible Mommy. She’s so kind and patient with him. Despite his mattiness she gave him a great short summer cut without one nick or cut. He was fresh and clean and handsome with a new blue Bandana! The price is right and everything is included. Ears plucked, nails trimmed, teeth cleaned! We’ll be going back soon. Alicia is Oliver’s favorite Groomer!

Made our first appointment for our dog Gizmo with Alicia. Of course we called last minute hoping to get an appointment, and Alicia was nice enough to get us in the next day. The place is very busy since they also board dogs. I was a bit nervous at first because I have taken my Gizmo before to a different groomer who left him in a waiting/​play area filled with other dogs and he was hiding and shaking the entire time and when I picked him up he seemed very stressed and continued to shake. But this was totally different, Alicia assured me he wouldn’t be put in the play area and made me feel comfortable. When I picked him up he not only looked great but was smiling and happy! Not shaking at all!!! We also picked up a few bones while we were there!!! So glad we found this great little neighborhood shop and can’t wait to go back!

My dog, Minion, and I absolutely love Paws and Claws! I have a ridiculous and ever-​changing schedule, which involves frequent last minute calls to rearrange walks, and they are always able to accommodate me (sorry about that guys!). Juan is Minion’s walker, and he treats Minion like he would treat his own dog. I trust that she is incredibly well taken care of when she’s with him (and any of the Paws and Claws crew!). Juan leaves me notes about Minion’s day, and I know she has a wonderful time playing with him and her dog friends when she’s at Paws and Claws. She has endless energy, yet is always pooped after her days there :)
I’ve had several issues with my apartment being randomly under construction, doors being frozen shut, etc., and Juan or Alicia have notified me right away and done everything in their power to be sure Minion is well cared for throughout the day — be that meeting me at the brown line to grab a spare key or keeping Minion for extra time and rearranging Juan’s typical drop off schedule.
Minion has also been groomed there twice — both times were excellent! I’m a fan of her scruffy look, otherwise I’d have her groomed more often. Minion freaks out during bath times with me but seems perfectly relaxed after leaving a grooming appointment with them. Plus, she looks adorable!
I would highly recommend Paws and Claws!

Paws and Claws is incredible and my dog, Murdoch, absolutely loves it there! Juan is Murdoch’s dog walker and he cares about Murdoch like he’s his own and takes incredible care of him every day.
The whole Paws and Claws crew treats Murdoch like family and goes above and beyond to provide amazing service. They threw Murdoch a birthday party when he turned one and make sure he gets time to play with his friends every day.
Juan leaves messages for me every day, texts, and calls to keep me up to date. The owner is responsible and so friendly. I trust them without a doubt, and I never worry when I am at work. That happiness and peace of mind is priceless, and yet the services are incredibly reasonable. I can’t recommend this place enough!

I always use Alicia as my groomer. My girls always look amazing — and they are never fearful when they go (reluctant but not afraid). I have been going to P&C since they opened. I started buying pet food there recently — the dogs really seem to like it (they are a bit picky eaters). It’s high quality food.

My dog loves it at Paws & Claws. They have gone out of their way to accommodate me, and I can’t believe any of the other reviews. My dog has been going here for almost 2 years now, and I haven’t had any problems.
Benefit #1: Taxi Service.
When she was a puppy, she would go every day. When I found out they had taxi service, and would pick up and drop off my dog, in her crate, every day, I was so grateful. I work downtown, so any time I can cut off of my mornings means I can sleep a little later.
Benefit #2: Complimentary Baths
I don’t know if this is a normal thing, or if I’m just lucky, but I leave my dog to be boarded at least once per month. When I go away for a longer period, she always comes home so clean and white. I haven’t had to even clip her nails in the longest time, which is good because I’m so afraid I’ll cut into her quick.
Benefit #3: Attentiveness
Within the first 2 weeks of her day care, when she was just a 4-​month old puppy, I got a phone call from Linda saying that she was playing with another dog and was bitten on her head. They took her to the vet and she got one stitch. Paws & Claws covered the cost, completely. It wasn’t a very deep or large cut, and I bet other places would have just dropped her off and said, «You should take her to the vet.»
Benefit #4: The staff
When I walk my dog to be boarded, she starts freaking out when we get within 2 blocks of Paws & Claws — pulling me and jumping around excited. In the mornings, whenever they come to pick her up, she freaks out more for them than she does for me when I come home! The staff all love her, and she doesn’t cower away from anyone. That tells me that even when I’m not around, they are treating her well. That’s a big plus for me.
All in all, I can’t imagine taking my dog to any boarding/​day care provider than Paws & Claws. I honestly believe that Paws & Claws will be part of my decision making whether to move or not, when I get to that point. When you find a great place, you don’t want to leave it. And Paws & Claws is great.

Well, would you believe that? It looks like they didn’t send the check after all! Wow! But, she finally admitted it, and had me come in to pick up the check.
Of course, I cut the check for $ 350, and used just over half before they kicked me out of their good graces, and, rather than give me the unused portion (or $ 140), they graciously gave me a check for $ 86. I was lucky to get it.
