Dr. Mills is primarily a specialist in medication consultation, but does accept personal therapy patients on occasion. He usually schedules only two patients per hour for medication sessions in order to know his patients and develop positive rapport. These sessions are of sufficient length to allow time to discuss yourself and your life, rather than exclusively focusing on medication.

Dr. Mills enjoys working with patients who struggle with depression, anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder and ADHD. Furthermore, he treats patients with issues of low self-​esteem, difficulties in interpersonal relationships, poor job and academic performance, and loss and grieving.

Matthew R. Mills, M.D., is a licensed, private-​practice psychiatrist located in the Lakeview Neighborhood of Chicago. Dr. Mills is Board Certified by The American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Mills accepts personal therapy patients on occasion, yet he is primarily a specialist in medication consultation.

Dr. Mills completed his undergraduate training at the University of Wisconsin-​Madison, earned his Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) from the Medical College of Wisconsin, and is a 2006 graduate of the Psychiatry Residency and Training Program at the University of Illinois Medical Center,

Clueless, psychiatrists prescribe pills for anxiety, insomnia, etc. They know nothing about the underlying causes of these conditions, in my case I had major gut problems that needed to be treated.

Dr. Mills is the first psychiatrist I’ve ever seen so I have nothing to compare him to, but Dr. Mills is awesome. He really doesn’t push medications on you at all– he truly seems to care about what is the absolute best for you.
He doesn’t take insurance. I just paid for the sessions on my debit card at the end of the sessions.
I have only seen Dr. Mills twice, an initial consultation and a follow up, and I am currently not taking any medication, so we don’t have regular visits. But I highly recommend him for anyone with mental health problems. Really caring, interested in how you feel, doesn’t make you feel bad.

Dr. Mills is amazing. He is knowledgeable, compassionate, and extremely easy to talk to. He has helped me work through deep long standing issues I have struggled with, as well as regular life stuff. His perspective is invaluable, and I credit him with helping me be a healthy and productive person. I highly recommend his services.

This is just an update to my last review written over two years ago. Not only do I still go to Peace of Mind, I still improve and am a better person, wife, and mother because of Dr. Mills’ help. I do not have enough good things to say about this man. However, he no longer accepts insurance and is pretty pricey, just a warning.

I first came in to see Dr Mills in the fall of 2012 during a difficult time in my life when I was overwhelmed with balancing my last semester of graduate school, planning a new career, a broken heart, and a daily struggle with fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue. I was impressed by his credentials– a psychiatrist who also has training in psychotherapy– as well as touched by his warm, caring manner when I first met him in person.
After working with him for a few months and still dealing with terribly low energy, he suggested thyroid medication, which essentially restored my ability to get out of bed and keep a job. I have since started seeing an endocrinologist and have been feeling better than I have in decades.
Dr Mills is not just some pill-​pusher who will hand over a script for happy meds while ignoring the causes for your problems; his emphasis on a holistic approach that includes therapy, wellness, and lifestyle choices ensures a return to equilibrium.
A good shrink is hard to find. I have seen a lot of bad psychiatrists, but Dr Mills helped me get over my mistrust of the profession.

I was initially very happy with Dr. Mills and have been «working» with him for over a year. Lately, though, I’ve noticed that he tends to lecture more than listen. Some times if feels as if he hadn’t paid attention to what I said (resultant «lecture» irrelevant). Communications have become a tragedy of errors. He claims to have returned phone calls but my phone does not have any phonemail messages and no record of missed or received calls. Strange that he’s the only one who doesn’t show up on the phone logs. His responses haven’t risen to the level of «snarky» but pretty darned close.
I’m not one to constantly change doctors. The only reasons I’ve changed other doctors is because they’ve retired. I did have one that completely misdiagnosed a condition and never adjusted medications (yet complained about my medications) that I stuck with for nearly two years before coming to the realization that he wasn’t meeting my needs.

I’ve been seeing Dr. Mills for about a year now, and I have been completely satisfied with treatment. He comes across as empathetic and genuinely concerned about what’s going on with my life; very knowledgeable, professional, but personal at the same time.
I think he understands how important it is to examine the connection between mental health issues and what goes on in people’s every day lives. He definitely does not aggressively push medications on me personally and is supportive of my preference for a holistic, multifaceted approach to mental health (i.e. employing psychiatry in addition to talk therapy, acupuncture, herbal remedies, etc.).

I am a colleague in private practice and strongly recommend Dr. Mills. I have referred many clients to him and have been extremely pleased with their progress. Dr. Mills has a warmth and extensive clinical experience which appears to put the most anxious of clients at ease. Even if a client has previously tried medication with poor results, I would recommend that they consider visiting Dr. Mills for a second opinion. I will continue to refer clients to Dr. Mills and happily recommend him to others.

I am so happy that there is finally a Unilocal page for Dr. Mills! I would recommend to absolutely anyone who is taking the first steps in getting control over the emotional and/​or psychological issues they are facing. It can be really hard and embarrassing to finally sit down with a total stranger and tell him or her things that you can’t even admit to yourself, but Dr. Mills seriously is the person you want to have that experience with. He is unequivocally one of the kindest, most understanding and most genuinely sincere doctors I have ever known, and he has helped me more than I could ever fit into a review. He really cares about the welfare and progress of his patients, and has hours that make it easy to meet on weekends or after work. Almost two years after I started seeing him, I am a much happier and productive person. He helped me understand that what I was going through was manageable and discussed with me the different approaches I could take in managing the stress and anxiety in my life.
I encourage anyone who needs emotional or mental help to make an appointment with him. My decision to do so was one of the best things I have ever done for myself.
