Pin Curls

Beautiful place with a great shampoo room but that’s where it ends. Front desk (who is also the manager) has a terrible disposition. I have only been coming here for less than 2 years. My first stylist who I liked quit on the day of my appointment and management wouldn’t say why. So I found another stylist I liked, Jacob, who did an excellent job. He is still on their website and I called for another appointment and he also is no longer there. Of course, they wouldn’t give me any contact info and the manager said she has no idea why he left.
This place has such a high turnover rate for their staff. No way to establish long term relationship with someone and it doesn’t help that the customer service is bad.
This review is only for hair services.

I enjoyed my haircut, but disliked the customer service. Let me elaborate.
Having had my hair cut by a Level 3 stylist, I really liked my haircut. Obviously, there are skills involved to becoming a Level 3 stylist. However, I do not have the funds to spend a lot on a haircut. I had a half off coupon for first time clients.
What I disliked about this place is how pushy they are about buying Eufora products. It’s all organic, which I appreciate, but I honestly don’t want to spend $ 26 on a small bottle of shampoo and then another $ 26 on conditioner. I didn’t like that they made me feel horrible about the current products I was using, which I guess turns out to be a great selling method as I purchased their products. I didn’t come here to feel bad, I came to get a haircut and feel good about how I look!
They do have a really nice atmosphere and an awesome room where the sinks are for washing hair.
So, with the good and the bad, I left feeling neutral about this place.

Jacob gave me one of the best hair cuts I think I’ve ever had. I have fine, thin, straight hair and he made it look full, healthy, and swishy! He spent a lot of time talking with me about my hair and getting to know what I wanted.
Pincurls is an absolutely beautiful salon and I always feel «dreamy» when I go there. They treat me so well and I leave smiling. I booked my next appointment on a Friday so I can go out and do something fun afterwards with my new fresh hair! ;)

My favorite hair stylist is gone & so are my favorite spa ladies (Sara & Connie) so I cannot recommend the experience anymore.

Called last Saturday for an appointment and got in a few hours later. Not bad! I do suggest calling ahead or making an appointment. Upon arrival I was offered a mimosa which wins me over immediately. I scheduled with Jacob who was one of their newer additions (prices based on stylist experience). I also received a complimentary deep conditioning treatment with my Unilocal checkin. I have long wavy hair and just really wanted a trim and more layers to take off some weight without thinning it out. Granted I didn’t ask for anything too crazy, Jacob was very kind and did a great job, finishing with a beautiful blow out. I’ll definitely be back.

Started going to this lovely establishment to follow my girl Elyse. I am super paranoid about people touching my hair. So paranoid that I had not gotten it cut in a couple of years! I met up with her at her old salon late last year and told her to just go to town with an idea that I had for my hair. She did not disappoint. I had to follow her! Pin Curls is SUCH a beautiful place. Very clean. Very inviting. The receptionist is really nice. The service prices are streamline with other places and the quality of service is topnotch. A lot of places should take notes from this place!

Ah, Ukrainian Village. Still struggling with the randomness of it’s various merchants. Fret no more! This place is great!
Nestled next to a used car lot is Pin Curls, which I found by hurriedly needing a manicure and was not thrilled with Get-​A-​$ 6-​Haircut-​and-​Questionable-​Massage normal getup that’s common in this area. The interior is plush, calming, and quite large, actually. Unlike other salons that smush their mani-​pedi area into the hair part, this place has plenty of space, which was nice.
I was brought a lovely green tea, selected a nail color, and was lovingly treated to a nice manicure by a young lady. She was efficient and bubbly, and did not mind treating my meth head looking nails. It was only $ 15 for everything! Fantastic.
I’m excited to try out their facials next, they looked very nice and are reasonably priced. Additionally, they shave and barber here as well!
Now, if I can only convince my fiancé to come here and get a trim while I get my nails done…

I followed Elyse here from her previous salon. I will follow her anywhere! She has been coloring and cutting my hair for years. I’ve had my hair as short as a pixie to past my shoulders. She is also fantastic at color, I’ve been blonde, blue, pink, purple, and a ginger over the years with her. I highly recommend Elyse!!!

Pin Curls is my spot for a lot of stuff — haircuts, nails, and now color. As we all know, it’s hard to find a trustworthy stylist, and Jacob has definitely earned my trust as a client. He is thorough, professional, and really listens. He’s also just really good at cutting hair and color — I can tell that he really enjoys his job and it shows in his work. I came in to get my color done for the first time in years and Jacob recommended a balayage technique that turned out beautifully. He did an awesome job… so happy to have a consistently awesome stylist (and colorist)!

I came here for a facial and was beyond impressed with the place! It’s so nicely set up and as soon as I walked through the door the staff was very friendly. I was offered tea or water while I waited for Jackie who would be doing my facial. Jackie was amazing. I haven’t had a facial in a while and desperately needed one. My skin was a mixture of breakouts and severe dry spots. What Jackie used definitely helped and I’m still seeing improvements a couple days later. I had the hour facial and Jackie explained everything she used. Made me feel super comfortable. The heated blanket and relaxing room was definitely a plus too. She even gave me a few samples to try the products at home. I talked to Sarah about getting a keratin treatment on my hair as well. I was a little disappointed that she advised against it since my hair is already so chemically processed. But I really did appreciate her honesty. I will definitely be going back for another facial and one of the deep hair treatments Sarah suggested.

If you are looking for a professional lash artist in Chicago, Jackie at Pin Curls is your girl! She takes her time and really does a great job! The salon is very clean and adorable. The staff is fabulous. I have zero complaints about Pin Curls… and they allow fur babies inside too!

At the beginning of 2014 I would have given Pin-​Curls 5+ stars. It was a well-​managed salon with stellar stylists and nail techs! Their current Unilocal rating clearly reflects that. Unfortunately many of greats have moved on (almost all of the stylists mentioned in previous Unilocal posts), and I am completely unimpressed with the service and quality of work since. Sara and Coni were amazing nail techs, best in the city actually, and they were replaced by a very inexperienced, young, awkward girl who gave me one of the worst no-​chip manicure’s I’ve received (not to mention I waited 30+ minutes after my scheduled appointment time). As for hair stylists, I wouldn’t let anyone that is currently there touch my hair. Such a bummer to see it go downhill.

Come here and see Elyse for your hair care needs. Elyse was my stylist prior to her arrival at pin up curls and is the only person I will let work with my hair. Her technical expertise paired with her ability to take your lifestyle and your natural beauty (skin tone, face shape, etc.) into consideration means you always walk away with more than just a haircut; you walk away with a hairstyle that fully embodies who you are. I have never had anything less than an incredible hair experience with her, which says a lot because I’ve been coloring my hair for the last 15 – 20 years and since I started seeing Elyse, the health of my hair has improved.

I’m a nails girl and decided to try pin curls out since they are literally a block away. Hidden inside is a really cute 3 chair professional nail setup. Wine and snacks when you arrive, great music on too. Pedi was pleasant, professional and relaxing. No chip same great service. 25 no chip special until the end of august made it as cheap if not more than my usual spot. I would def go again, didn’t feel like a chop shop like stylish nails and more private and relaxing than the bigger ones. I’m very happy with my choice! Highly recommended.

I used to be a «chair hopper” — hopping from salon to salon for the best $ 15 hair cut deal… until I came to Pin Curls. Now, they’re prices are pretty competitive with other high end salons, but it’s so worth it! I’ve been to really nice salons & spent a fortune before, but none of them truly impressed me. Pin Curls’ customer service & talent exceed their competitors by far. The ambiance is first class, & for once I had someone cut my bangs right! I’m also one who easily gets bored with her hair. I appreciate their consultative approach, my stylist Sarah knew exactly what I needed, & I couldn’t be happier with the result. I already have another appointment set for an ombré & trim — I can’t wait!

Ever since my stylist left the city, i have been in search for a new one… i felt like not that many know how to deal with the stubborn, stick thick asian hair like mine, but thankfully i stumbled on Pin Curls as it’s right across from my favourite japanese restaurant. I really needed a haircut before my friend’s bachelorette party that weekend and I could get a last min appt there.
I was skeptical at first… but what could be worse? Going to a bachelorette party with my yucky hair is not an option!, and it turned out to be the best salon experience ever.
Spacious, not rushing, not overly crowded (well, it was a thursday evening, so i can’t speak for weekend hours), a glass of wine along with some snacks to start the appointment with. It was a totally relaxing and pampering experience.

Mani/​pedi was fabulous!
I called up one evening needing a last minute manicure and pedicure for a wedding I was going to be in that weekend. I was able to get an appointment right away and was seated without a wait. The space itself is very cute, spacious and clean. The entire staff, from the receptionist, to Connie who did my nails, was extremely friendly and accommodating. Unlike nail techs at other places I’ve been to, Connie was polite, thorough, and listened to any requests I had, like not scrubbing my tender heels (thanks a lot, new flats). Anyone who’s indecisive like me knows picking out nail colors can be quite overwhelming, but Connie tested out a few colors on my hands and feet to help me find the perfect ones, and even offered to touch up my nails if I wanted to stop in again before the wedding. This is not a typical assembly line nail salon, and it was refreshing to be able to relax and actually enjoy the pampering. Over a week later, my nails are chip-​free and looking fresh!

I had my first facial and loved it! My face still feels so soft. I also bought some product that so far I love. The only thing with the facial… normally when you have a mask or some down time most places bridge the gap with a hand massage or something.
The lather lounge was great but I’m glad I had a coupon. I’m not sure it is worth the full price.

I’ve been to Pin Curls twice and I came away with the same impression twice. Once about six months ago, once earlier today. The décor is super cute, staff is friendly, they serve complimentary tea/wine…I always wonder why it’s so empty in there. And then I get my bill and remember that nobody’s in there because the prices are stupid.
Seriously. Today I got a brow wax and a bang trim. Thirty dollars? Exqueeze me? Michael Anthony Salon in River North (close to work) charges me $ 5 for a bang trim. Last time I went to Pin Curls I got a bang trim and a mani/​pedi and was !!! at the bill (didn’t ask for the price breakdown) so perhaps I should not have been surprised. But fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me so I only have myself to blame.
It’s too bad this place is so close to home, I would go there more often if the prices weren’t redonkulous.

If I could I would give this place 0 stars. I came in to get an «ombré» but we decided to just dye the crown of my head back to my original color (ashy blonde) and leave the rest alone. My hair turned RED… They tried fixing it three times with hardly any results. What’s worse is they charged me $ 65 for «product» after I left the salon in tears. Even better, I went to my regular stylist the next day who fixed it in an hour with the CORRECT hair color and charged me the same price they charged me for product. DO NOT GO HERE — not only did they ruin my hair, they charged me for it! And for the record, my stylist said that product does not cost that much. Thanks for nothing Pin Curls!!! I’ll be back to demand a refund and show you the work of a real stylist when I walk in tomorrow afternoon.
