I’m so surprised to see such bad reviews for this place! This morning was my second time(1st time was quick carryout) and I had some time, so I decided to dine-in. I got there right when they opened, and I think the owner was working. He was really nice. I got«Zac’s Chicken Sandwich» and it was SO delicious! Super fresh. Couldn’t find any ketchup, though. I also got some onion rings, and they were the best I’ve ever had. It took awhile to get the coffee but it’s a small place and they had just opened so it wasn’t a big deal(high-maintance people, stay home). Unlimited coffee was fresh, hot and Intelligentsia brand. I am currently devouring a carrot cupcake that was $ 3 bucks but totally worth it. Glad I have a little café to walk to that’s near my apartment. I give 4 stars instead of 5 because I didn’t have cash and I couldn’t tip on the card. :(Thanks for the yummy food, Red Rover! I will definitely be coming back.

I try to support local businesses in my neighborhood when I can, but I’m greatly regretting the $ 18 spent at Red Rover. I ordered a corned beef sandwich, fries, and a chocolate chip cookie. The corned beef was a grayish color, slimy, and just not good. I personally have never had corned beef that color, but maybe it’s another type I’ve never heard of. The fries were a mix of seasoned fries and regular fries. The seasoned fries were alright but the regular fries weren’t thoroughly cooked. The only semi-decent thing in the order was the cookie. I won’t be ordering from here again, unfortunately.

I had to give them a star to review? I don’t know how the food is because after going out of my way and being stuck on Devon in bad traffic, I came into this place, that I thought was cute and could’ve been an asset to an up and coming neighborhood, only to be told that the groupon I had(which was to expire in 2 days) was not accepted anymore and that I could get a refund thru them. This is really bad customer service– I grew up with a dad who had a restaurant — this makes me nuts. I told the guy that I just wasted my time and that I would not waste my time again by coming back. Purpose of groupon: to expose your place of business and gain customers. They just lost a customer and in reading other Unilocal reviews, it looks like they have various other problems. It’s too bad.

I came here recently to find some particularly horrible service. After waiting several minutes to be acknowledged(only one other customer was there), I was to find out there was no coffee brewed and had to wait an additional amount of time. The space is too tiny, my friend and I felt like a burden to the employees hiding in the back of the shop.

Is this place even open??? Everytime I call no one answers. Walked over and an employee was sitting right by the door with the door locked and ignored any knocks even though there was a sign right on the door that said opened. I bought a groupon and now I can’t even use it? Whats going on Red Rover? Are you open or not?

Okay, so. I really want to see my neighborhood places succeed, so I hope the Red Rover folks will take these criticisms to heart. My roomslice and I walked to Vince’s for a burger the other day around lunchtime, only to find out that they don’t open until 4 pm(WHAT? But that’s a review for another day.) We wandered into Red Rover more or less by default. Honestly, the space is unimpressive. It’s very kitsch, very cramped, not super well-lit. There’s only room for about two people near the counter, and nowhere to wait for carry-out. The gentleman at the counter was very nice, which is good, since he was literally the only employee there and was also the person to make our sandwiches. The sandwiches were fine, honestly; in fact, they were quite tasty. My issue is that everything about them was store-bought and easily something that could be made at home, for far less than $ 7. The turkey was packaged; the ciabatta was not made in-house. I asked for cucumber on my sandwich, but they were out(then take it off the chalkboard!!) Each sandwich came with a tiny bunch of tiny grapes, and a pickle. Here is the biggest issue: The centerpiece of the café is a huge bakery case. We had some time to check out the wares while our sandwiches were being made. Every item in the case was from a grocery store. Cupcakes with swirls of buttercream packaged in plastic containers. Wrapped slices of coffee cake with actual nutrition label stickers on them. That bright-pink«strawberry» bundt cake you can buy at Aldi(how much would a slice of that have cost?) Like, you guys… you are a café. You have sandwiches and baked goods. It is not good enough to buy all your food at the Jewels, then slap it together and re-sell it. I don’t know, y’all. There is just nothing really special or interesting going on here. Without an overhaul, it may not be long for this world.

Just made my first visit to this little café to use a Groupon. Based on other Unilocal reviews I was not expecting much but can report I had a pleasant experience. The young man who took and prepared my order was very polite and congenial. He made a recommendation of The Chatty Kathy(turkey) and it was a very good sandwich… fresh and generous ingredients. The side of pasta salad was also more than adequate(with a little spicy kick) and the carrot cake satisfied my sweet tooth. It ISVERYSMALL so it was nice that the Groupon did not require that I «dine in». As a single person I hate that mandate since sometimes I want to try the food but prefer to carry out. All in all I was very pleased with the process from beginning to end and I will return soon to try the Tim Buck 2… to go!

Oh yuck! I got a side of mystery veggies(?) with my sandwich, and a free glass plate to keep. My first visit was months ago just for some coffee. I was tryingt o joke around with the girl behind the counter but Ms. Personality wasnt having it. The coffee is premade and is pumped out of a canister. I made a comment how it was a little warm(as in not hot enough to be served) and she really didnt care nor offer to warm it up. My second visit was yesterday. The dude behind the counter must have been new. He lacked that certain outgoing glad to be here how can I help you!?! personality. I asked him what the soup of the day was and he disappeared into the back for nearly 60 seconds to find out. As I was waiting I saw the sign with the coup of the day. Seems like the chef should start the day by letting the staff know what’s going on that day. I ordered the«build your own» sandwich with corned beef and swiss. I dont think I got corned beef. It looked more like ham and tasted faintly like nothing! It came with a side of brown and tan vegetables(?). They may have been veggies, I’m not sure. Something which resembled a green bean in shape was closer to black in color. I also got a pastry which was send home with me on a glass plate wrapped in saran wrap. How much money are they losing doing this? It took about 10 minutes or more to place my order and walk out the door. The kid disappeared many times into the back. Another woman came in after me and she was never acknowleded. We asked if he was the only one on duty and he said yes but a few minutes later he made mention of three people being there. I will never go back. There are too many attitude issues and lack of good customer service. That part of Devon needs good businesses besides crappy corner stores. I dont think they’ll last and that’s a shame.

Most likely a front for a drug lab. The staff was rude and in the back area the entire time. I seriously saw my waitress for a total of 30 seconds before she disappeared to the back. Had to knock on the door when I wanted dressing for my salad. Everything on the menu is something you could easily make at home. Horrible kitschy yet stale atmosphere. I won’t be coming back.

My husband and I came here for lunch one afternoon. I ordered the chicken little sandwich, which is an egg salad sandwich. I also had an arnold palmer. The sandwich was messy, but very tasty. It came with an interesting and good potato side salad. We were able to sample some homemade raspberry sorbet, and it was delicious. The man behind the counter who provided us with the sample was very friendly and welcoming. Next time I want an egg salad sandwich, I am definitely going here.

I Love finding new places:) Located on Devon Avenue a little East of Clark Street is a truly charming and quaint little place Welcome to The Red Rover Café’, and for the record, this is a very small place, there are about 4 small tables inside so basically this is more of a take out operation than a dine in one. Okay, so I will admit that Red is not a favorite color of mine and upon entering this place I saw lots of Red Stuff. Like Everywhere and I was wishing it was all purple instead because purple is my favorite color. However, this was not meant to be since this place is called The Red Rover Café’ so I just went with the flow, and actually the restaurant interior was quite appealing, A nice red umbrella, some miniature dancing Hula Girls on the table, yadda, yadda… And, can’t forget the really pretty red benches outside, I liked these a lot because I had been running around all day and boy, was I tired! Okay, so on to the food, Red Rover Café’ has a bit of an eclectic menu, they have a few sandwich choices, some salads, coffee and tea and even PB&J for the munchkins… Now, I ordered a corned beef sandwich on a ciabatta roll, and gotta say it was not one of the best corned beef’s that I’ve had cause they put some funky mustard on it and killed it! Yes, I asked for mustard, but I just wanted French’s, not gray poupon! Boy, did that bum me out! However, if you are a lover of gray poupon make sure and swing by. They’ve got you covered. So, the sandwich definitely not a favorite but nonetheless, a lively, colorful place that will make you smile! Hell, it made me smile and I hate Red… Nuff Said…

I was excited to try this cute little café. Unfortunately, I was disappointed; my cookie was hard and stale(white chocolate macadamia) and the chix noodle soup w/vegetables was really shredded chix w/rice and veggies(mushrooms, spinach). My order took 15 – 20 minutes, and that was for a to go order.

The food is reasonably price. Had lunch hours posted as open at 11am waited for 30 minutes for them to open because we had a groupon for them. Someone unlocked the store and offer no apologies. The food was good but not remarkable. A place to go if you want a sand which or something.

A cute little neighborhood café with a good selection of food and drinks, my husband and I left a little too full after a tasty meal of Reuben sandwiches(with pineapple and a pickle on the side), coffee and an Arnold palmer, and slices of pecan pie. The meal was delicious and we will definitely come back to this quiet and charming café :)
