Okay. So I got the Groupon for the haircut and highlights and figured this place had good reviews. I called and tried to make an appointment, didn’t have much appointment windows open but I set one for 9am on Saturday, figuring I’d have some time before work.
The day before I realized the timing wouldn’t work out and figured I would call them right away at 9am the next morning explaining and maybe rescheduling. The lady that answered the call was quite rude-​told me that I if I were to reschedule… they would have to redeem my WHOLE $ 99 Groupon because I couldn’t make the appointment. I tried to explain the situation, to which she then rudely told me she had to put me on hold… I of course hung up and then found out they had redeemed my groupon already. So basically I spent $ 99 for NOTHING.
I understand the annoyance of rescheduling, but taking my whole groupon is pretty petty and shows that they don’t give a fuck about their clients. I would have been willing to pay a rescheduling fee… whatever. I will never go here.
THANK GOD Groupon gave me my money back.

5 stars for how great the manager that handled my issue was — who gave me to her senior stylist to compensate for my dissatisfaction, also for the great haircut by level entry stylist. Minus 3 stars for the work and snobby attitude by senior stylist.
I came in for highlights with Becky (I think her name was, not sure). Becky glorified the work of balayage — i told her I hate the look of an Ombré and is why I’ve only done full highlights. she continues on with balayage… okay, I told her, if you think you can achieve a non-​ombré highlighted look with balayage, go for it. Emphasis on 1) non ombré 2) not brassy. The lighting in there is so horrible. It’s so yellow and sharp that it really doesn’t give the clientele much to a realistic color-​perception, regardless of their huge windows (which you’d think would give way for natural lighting). After washing my hair, something didn’t look right, but she went ahead and blowdried it and I disregarded my concerns. When I got home and washed my hair, I saw my hair was an eye-​sore: Brassy and ombré! Much worse, had tons of uneven painted strands. I kept this to myself, maybe I was just being OCD. On the upside, my haircut was awesome.
I was invited to attend a Kate Spade marketing photo shoot in NY. There, the hollywood senior stylist they hired uttered the most horrific affirmation, «Wow, your ombré looks pretty good, did you do it yourself? It just needs toning and a touch up to make the transition softer.»
GREAT. So I really wasn’t paranoid about my hair this whole time… there really as a problem! I called RJ Salon when I got back. The manager that spoke with me was so accommodating and sweet, her name escapes me. She set me up with their senior stylist, Sarah. I thought my troubles would be fixed, boy was I wrong.
I came in, Sarah asked me what was wrong with my look. I told her what I didn’t like about it, and I mentioned that a stylist from my photo shoot mentioned what was wrong with it as well (same as my initial concerns after Becky washed my hair). Sarah looked perplexed and once her mouth opened, she wasted MY time defending her fellow stylist. She said things like, «I’m not supposed to tell you this, but sometimes other stylists bash other salons’ work to gain clients. I’ve worked in photos shoots, and I’ve done this and that, and so I know how it works». OKAY SARAH, I really could care less, I want my hair fixed. So I continued on describing what i want, and basically trying to say, please do a full highlight on my hair to suppress this orange ombré look the past stylist did on my hair. She continues on to defend the work, saying it looks awesome, etc etc. I was beyond upset at this point and just smiled so I can get the hell out of there. She then stops me mid sentence to say, «Okay we kind of need to start because we ate into your time, so I may not have time to style your hair after» with a passive-​aggressive attitude. First of all, you’re the one who kept telling me to describe what I want, so I did… with you continuing on to battle my wants because you insist on defending your coworker and basically making me feel like I’m crazy for saying i hate the look. She emphasized the time limit and that she’d only fix it by using the balayage technique, once again.
Her chit chatting gossiping was so unprofessional and irked me. I have never heard of such a bizarre narrative for defense, NEVER. Also, sorry Sarah, but the stylist we had on shoot, doesn’t know of Robert Jeffrey Salon, much more, don’t compare yourself to him. I never ever belittled you/​your employer’s salon, so don’t belittle a hollywood all-​star stylist. last time I checked, we were in Lincoln Park, not a small town in the middle of nowhere, where rude remarks/​gossips like this are a norm. I was disgusted by her attitude. Thank God she faked a smile throughout that whole thing, otherwise, I would’ve called her out and embarrassed her right then and there.
Regardless of Becky (name?) having messed up my color, I still would’ve wanted to go back for her to do my haircut, but after Sarah giving me her unbecoming attitude, results in my absence. Which is sad, because I really loved my haircut.

Ok so, I have been living in Chicago for almost 8 years, and for 8 years I have been traveling to my hometown stylist in Ohio to get my hair done. Most women I think will understand this, when you find someone you love for hair, you just don’t cheat on them!
Well twice in my 8 years before Sarah at Robert Jeffrey I cheated to see if I could find SOMEONE/​ANYONE in Chicago that could do my hair.
1. Was a suburban Oak Brook Aveda Salon, this experience was just OK but the stylists only did color or cut not both, (i hate that!) I know thats a «thing» at some places but I was not willing to do too much adventuring so I did a trim and got out. Still was not as good as my hometown gal…
2. Anthony Cristiano @ THE TRUMP HOTEL. OMG DO NOT GO HERE!!! I have very long, curly hair… They CHOPPED INCHES OFF, I did not ask for this. I was in tears. I left with shoulder length hair. It was awful, terrible and cringeworthy. I will not name the stylist because I do not want to throw people under the bus but please for the love of GOD! The Trump is not worth the price tag! It may as well be supercuts! Literally they charge $ 150 for a cut, please don’t do it. You would be better off cutting up your money and throwing it out the window, at least in that case you wouldn’t look like total crap in your daily life. It took about a year and a half just to make my hair the length it currently is after that jacked up experience.
OK back to Sarah at RJ… So over the spring I decide I cant wait another 2 months to go to Ohio and have these split ends any longer. I walk in on a random weekday while walking home from the train. I happen to get an on the spot consult with Sarah and I could tell she understood what I wanted and just got me. She has done a couple bayalage colors on me, multiple hair cuts and now back to dark. She is amazing and I go here because of Sarah. Where Sarah is, I will be! :-)

I’m giving one star for the worst hair cut I’ve received in my life from Jessica. The haircut was completely uneven, one side was longer than the other, she cut my bangs when I told her not to and chunks of hair were missing in the layering I didn’t ask for.
I’ve been growing my bangs out for 11 months and they’re so short I can’t tuck them behind my ears after Jessica’s haircut.
The worst part of this experience was that the manager Katie did not offer me a refund. Kathleen, a more experienced stylist, was able to clean it up two days later. Kathleen did what she could, but I felt obligated to tip her.
Overall, I ended up spending more money because I felt obligated to tip Kathleen after fixing something she didn’t mess up. The receptionist also erroneously made my appointment for a time I had not asked for, which is the only reason the manager Katie called me.
I would not recommend this salon to anyone.

Shannon is wonderful! I bought the groupon and couldn’t be more pleased, I will definitely be coming back. She listened to what I was going for and offered the best recommendation (bayalage) which I had never tried before. She did an amazing job and definitely converted me. She’s very warm, welcoming and friendly too– highly recommend!

I’ve been going to this salon since it’s opened and have recommended it to several people. Jeanette is amazing at her job and will do anything to accommodate you!

Not happy at all… I paid $ 50 for a trim of one inch… The haircut was good but u would think they would blowdry your hair… not the case.
My hair was a bit wet from the middle and it was a crappy job.
To top it off she added hairspray to my hair… who does that…
I will not be returning.

This review is LONG overdue. I first came to Robert Jeffrey with a Groupon over two years ago, and have been a loyal client to Sarah ever since. I like to take risks with my hair color and am open to new ideas, and Sarah always has plenty of suggestions and feedback, while still listening to what I want. She takes her time, is never sloppy, and I always walk out feeling amazing. Whenever we do a big transformation, she takes before and after photos and keeps the chair turned away from the mirror so she can do a big «reveal» at the end. She is also fun to talk to, which is important when you are spending hours in a salon chair. I have referred several friends to Sarah and they all have positive things to say. If you want to have fun at the hair salon and walk out with amazing results, go see Sarah.

I went to Shannon for the first time today (got a Groupon for Robert Jeffrey), and she was awesome! She gave me a great haircut and beautiful/​natural looking balayage. I would definitely recommend her. She was also really nice and easy to talk to, which is a plus when you’re ‘hanging out’ with someone for a few hours at a time. Will definitely be back! Thanks again!

I went in last night and had an appointment with Kim for a cut and color. I came in all excited to change into a redhead, but walked out more blonde instead. Initially I was disappointed when Kim explained that red might not be the best choice due to the maintenance required with it and how quickly the color would fade and while she’s right, I was a bit sad but do appreciate her honesty for sure. Thinking back on it now, I wish I had just told her to do it anyways just for a fun change (I’m naturally dark blonde and have been various shades of blonde ranging from bleached blonde to dark blonde)…but I can’t be too mad because Kim did an awesome job of highlighting my hair and lightening up my overall look and I love my cut, my hair looks way healthier and she did a good job of making my excessive layers blend a bit more.
The salon was clean and everyone was very friendly. I liked Kim a lot and it was fun talking to her. She was friendly and very chatty, but not like some hair stylists that just talk about themselves, we very much we’re having a conversation which was awesome and much appreciated (I can’t handle someone doing my hair and talking about their problems). I was also the last person in the salon, but I appreciated that she stuck with me and didn’t take any short cuts with my appointment and kept working to make sure my hair looked great.
Only complaint is not taking credit cards for tips. They told me when I made the appointment that I had to tip in cash or with a check so I planned ahead because I never carry cash, however had I forgotten, I would have had to come back with cash in hand at a later date (or did they have an ATM?). I would have done it because it wouldn’t have been fair to Kim to not tip her, but just overall it was annoying and I can see a lot of stylists getting cheated because of this because I know few people that always carry cash.
Overall I’d recommend and would definitely return. Thanks for fixing my hair, Kim, and I’ll see you soon to become a redhead :)

Hannah is so amazing! I have had my hair cut by her numerous times and it always turns out great! She really listens to what I want and also styles it super cute! I would highly recommend her.
Erinne does my color and is also amazing. I have naturally darker hair and wanted to go light for the summer. She did such a great job and I receive so many compliments everyday! Thanks Erinne!

I’m giving them one star before even stepping foot into the salon. I saw them on Groupon and wanted to try their highlights services with a Level 2 stylist but I just called and was told they don’t have any appointments till ⁸⁄₁₅ — today is ⁷⁄₂₇. Wow!
There’s always a catch for Groupons. You get the services that you pay for! And for me, I didn’t get any service at all as I was looking for an appointment within a reasonable time frame!
No go, Groupon (ers), no go.

I got a groupon for the balayage highlights with the level 2 stylist. After reading all the reviews here, I specifically asked for Sarah.
When I sat down with Sarah, she asked me what I wanted to do and I showed a few pictures that I had found online, and also told her that I was a bit scared to be going so bright since I have dark hair. I told her to work her magic and I have to say… I LOVE MY HAIR!
Its perfect, the color turned out amazingly, and she was so nice.
I would definitely be coming back here for all my hair needs!

Love this salon, super nice, clean, great products, variety of services, friendly staff at front desk and my stylist Shannon. I have only done my hair as of now, but they have other services. I found this salon on a groupon for hair cut/color…taking a big chance after moving to Chicago. I am so pleased with my hair, request Shannon, she is so great at what she does. I’m always open to new looks and She suggests what would look good if you’re on the fence.

I bought a groupon for a haircut and balayage with a level 1 stylist. I had a great experience! I have been in Chicago for almost two years and have not found a salon or stylist I like enough to come back to but Kim was amazing. She really wanted to make sure she knew what I wanted with the cut and color and honestly did a fantastic job. I will definitely be back.

I went in last night to get my hair baylayaged with Becky. Prior to the dying and cutting she said it would not be a problem. I told her that I had dyed my hair dark brown out of the box about a month prior, she said that may effect the color a little but should not be a problem. Well after she cut (which I do love) and blow dried my hair, to my surprise there was barely any difference. The only difference noticeable to the fact that my entire head of hair is about 3 – 4 shades lighter than when I went in. She left the toner on my hair for 30 min which is wayyyyyyy longer than ANY stylist I have ever been to (I have been dying my hair since 8^th grade mind you) has.
I purposely wanted to keep my roots a rich dark brown and now my whole head of hair is a weird orangey brown color with a few oddly placed highlights peaking through. I expressed my distaste and how upset I was and their only offer was for me to come back, again, and pay FULL PRICE for her to re-​do it. It is safe to say I have never been this upset with the color of my hair in the 12 years I have been getting it dyed. It is going to cost triple of what I originally paid to get it fixed. I wanted to like this salon so much, but I just cannot be pleased with the horrible mess my hair color now is.

I got a groupon 2 weeks ago for baylage hightlights and a cut. Never colored my hair and haven’t my found the perfect salon so I thought why not. I am so glad I gave it a shot. I was paired up with Hannah London– who was amazing. She helped me find the perfect color for my highlights and didn’t push me to get a lot of length cut. She walked me through each step and made sure I was happy with the amount of color being put in before doing it and the amount of hair she was cutting off. She gave me an awesome sun kissed look! I would definitely recommend her and plan on going back to her when I want more color. The salon is super clean and very accomodating to their customers. Everyone is very friendly as well.

I’ve been getting my hair done by Sarah for 2 years now, she is awesome, very professional and has great style, she is amazing with cuts color, and styles!

I bought a Groupon like a lot of the reviewers here. I scheduled a partial highlight and cut with Sarah, and I love the outcome!
The salon was clean, the employees were friendly and Sarah was a true professional. I am very picky about my long, thick hair, but she did an awesome job and walked me through what we were doing, step by step.
I’ve already scheduled my next appointment and can’t wait to go back. I highly suggest Sarah to anyone looking for a new/​trustworthy stylist in the city.
