Smith-Corcoran Funeral Home

I worked for Smith Corcoran a few years ago which was very different. After working there and then coming back to my home state I can honestly say funeral homes in the Chicago area don’t have any personalization to funerals compared to a small town. I had a bad experience with Smith Corcoran, and the people there at the time. They don’t treat their employees like they should, but I am glad to see they handle funerals better than the workers due to most of the good reviews.

It’s true that they state death Is a business. I went here to talk to somebody am I going to mention any names cuz I wasn’t really happy at all. My mom test on the 5^th of this month so I never really organized a funeral before my cousin went with me and I had gone to a couple of funeral homes my cousin recommended with you were here as his dad Picanto price is here and my cousins father after that so we talked to a funeral director now mind you it’s a state law that the prices have to be listed in a book. So the one place you went everything pretty much was listed this place and everything in packages and there seems to be no we will eczema for example we talked about embalming and keep in mind they don’t have each as a separate charge. This other place we went to if we wanted to involve or not the difference was $ 500. Here you cannot change the price whether we embalm there or not.
My cousin haggle while I had stepped out to take a phone call and was told by the director that she had to talk to her bus to see if they could discount it. 5 – 10 minutes later she came back as I walk back in find out that they could but we went with the embalming anyway. At the end of our agreement my cousin wanted to personally thank the boss for the discounting and she responded that he wasn’t here. And it gets better. Because she stated that she would make sure that everything was okay before she went on vacation which I believe was either that day or the following day so she wouldn’t be at the service is fine I get that the guy that was there was awesome. Now they provide a obituary section on their website. So I used it and started spreading the word around then linked that obituary to people’s Facebook pages and what have you; emails and etc… used my smart phone to text messages and I didn’t think I needed to check on it because I was assured she did it and that it would be fine aa I was there when I dictated it to her what was to say. So you can imagine how upset I was when I found out that the name and address date and times were fine… but the details included were for that of an Asian woman. I called that night and the issue was fixed 15 – 20 minutes later but the whole day I was sending that link out so I thought also stupid for not checking on it. Then a couple days later she called me and I’m talking about the funeral director that arranged all this and asked if everything was okay, and she didn’t even know that all this s*** happened. So more of the story is, death is a business and if you should sadly ever have to use these types of services, do not be upset of the passing of your loved one but think as a business person and get what you can out of what you pay for. I’m not gonna give this less than 3 stars because the doctor that did show up seem to be a really nice guy and the services self pretty good but everything leading up to that was up and down

During an emotionally difficult time the staff at Smith-​Corcoran treated us like family. I was so pleased at how caring and attentive they were. We worked with Angela and she guided us through this painful process with such kindness. Her support helped ease the grief of our family. Thank you for helping us during our time of sadness, you were wonderful!

I had the unfortunate task of burying my brother this past week. This is not an easy thing to have to do but I have to tell you that Sandra at Smith Corcoran really took care of me and my family and made the process as easy as it could be under the circumstances. She took care of us prior to the wake, during the wake and on the morning of the funeral. She was professional and really paid close attention to the details that were important to my family. I was so pleased with how everything went and so was the rest of my family.
I also would like to add that the facility at Smith Corcoran on Cicero was immaculate and completely kept up to date and classy. I have recently been to wakes at other funeral homes and they just did not compare with Smith Corcoran. I highly recommend Smith Corcoran and would use them again, although I hope to not have to any time soon…
A great big thank you to Sandra and the whole crew at Smith Corcoran for helping us give my brother the funeral with the honor and dignity that he so deserved.

This funeral service is like nothing I’ve seen before. They are VERY well organized when compared to other funeral services that I have seen. They are patient and show compassion to the mourning. Don’t want to say this, but it’s reality. I would definitely use them in the future.

We had my mom’s visitation at Smith Corcoran funeral home on Cicero. I walk into the lobby. The floor is torn apart, scaffolding, ladders, and painters painting. Smith Corcoran could have had this scheduled for a day when they were closed, like maybe Sunday, but no, they chose to do it on the day of my mom’s wake.
They do good work, but when you’re mourning, and you paying thousands of dollars you should not expect to walk into a construction site. The visitation room should smell like flowers, not like paint & glue, which it did.
Smith Corcoran is remodeling the entire building. Do not have services there until they are completely done. You do not want to have the experience I just had with this place.
12÷20÷11 Update: Adding insult to injury, in addition to Smith Corcoran’s insensitive decision to remodel during my mom’s services, THEY THREW HER FLOWERS OUT! A funeral home is supposed to lay the flowers at the grave. What ever is left should be taken back to the home and mourners should at least have the option to take them.
This was not our experience. After the services at the cemetery family member went back to the grave to find it barren. Nothing. Not one arrangement. Smith Corcoran didn’t even unload them. Just took them back to the funeral home and threw them out. Over a thousand dollars worth of flowers tossed into the garbage.
When dealing with Smith Corcoran at the cemetery make sure they unload all the flowers and do not leave until they do so.

I haven’t been to many funeral homes but I found that this one was relatively painless.
I came here over the weekend for a friends’ mom and found that everyone was friendly and helpful to get you quickly where you needed to go.
Parking was plentiful, tissue galore and remodeled bathrooms and hallways.

Smith-​Corcoran has taken care of both my grandparents visitation and funeral arrangements. Though not an easy time, I have to commend them on their personable employees, very clean facility, and great attention to detail. They really strive to make everything as seamless as possible. Thank you.
