History

Established in 2006.

String Theory is a chamber music ensemble that consists of three musicians: Adrian Morris on 1st violin, Spencer Lokken or Shaum Jhansale on 2nd violin, and Steve Bromley on the piano/keys. We’ve been playing together since 2005 and started working Style Matters events in 2006. Though we can learn just about anything a client asks us to play, classical music is our forté. We’re not an incredibly formal/stuffy ensemble (no tuxedos here, folks) and we like to think that we can make even the most commonly requested tunes (Pachebel anyone?) sound like something all our own. In addition to hundreds of weddings, we also hold private recitals and have performed for high profile events with the likes of Tom Brokaw and Colin Powell.

A classically trained violinist since four, Style Matters’ head honcho, Spencer Lokken, would be lost without the guidance of sound. A beat nut since the very beginning, he’s been spinning since his teenage years. His musical interests span from contemporary electronic funk to classical compositions centuries old. As one-third of popular local DJ collective Orchard Lounge, he tours the country regularly, constantly pushing futuristic new sounds to the open-minded masses. When he’s not on the road or focusing on Style Matters events, along with his OL cohorts, Spencer is a resident DJ at Smart Bar. He was chosen as BPM magazine’s Next On the Decks grand prize winner for his «Land of Nod» downtempo mix, has performed on NPR and at world famous venues like Red Rocks Ampitheatre, The Fillmore Theatre, Pritzger Pavilion, and The Bean in Millenium Park. He was also recently mentioned in the Arts section of the New York Times. Spencer is currently spearheading an effort to open up Chicago’s
