The types of bariatric surgery we perform are widely practiced procedures that have produced positive results for thousands of patients. We specialize in many laparoscopic bariatric procedures: LAP-​BAND®, Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy and revisional bariatric surgery. All of these surgeries are performed at Saint Joseph Hospital, which has been nationally and locally recognized for its superior safety record. Plus, we offer single-​incision laparoscopic surgery (SILS), an advanced technique that requires only one small incision and leaves virtually no scar.

History

Established in 2008.

At The Chicago Institute of Advanced Bariatrics, we believe that surgery is only part of the solution. To be effective, a bariatric procedure must be combined with significant lifestyle changes — in your diet, activity level and more.

That’s why we have experts in a variety of fields, including nutrition and psychology. Under the guidance of Dr. Rami Lutfi, F.A.C.S., a noted bariatric surgeon, these experts work together to develop a plan that’s right for you and help you prepare for the changes you’ll need to make.

Our team also includes a nurse bariatric coordinator, whose sole purpose is to provide you with answers and encouragement throughout the process, as well an insurance specialist who guides you through payment and billing issues.

Manager

We are led by Medical Director Rami Lutfi, M.D., F.A.C.S, a board-​certified bariatric surgeon who has performed hundreds of procedures. He proctors other surgeons who wish to perform the LapBand® operation and has written extensively about the subject for leading medical journals. He completed a research fellowship in foregut disorders and obesity and a clinical fellowship in minimally invasive and bariatric surgery from Vanderbilt University, where he was also an instructor of surgery.
