The Denim Lounge

I’ve shopped here several times, and it is now my go to for proper fitting, comfie and amazing jeans in the Chicago area.
The selection is vast — although if you’re a short-​stack like me, you will find that most (if not all) of the jeans will need to be tailored — which can be a turn off if you are not prepared for that.
I can understand the reviews pertaining to the dispositions of the staff — I’ve experienced several different personalities there on my previous trips. My recent trip (1.5 weeks ago) the staff was very help and accommodating.
This will be a favorite of mine for a long time.
Oh, and the butt cam is pretty stellar as well!

Great staff! I hate shopping for jeans. All the trying on and searching for the right size. The staff made it easy and FAST! They knew exactly what I was looking for. I was in and out in 20 minutes and got a great pair of jeans.

two words. butt. cam.
that’s right. nestled right at the base of the denim lounge is a mirror which you face and a tv above it. on said tv, you see the projection of your tailfeather as captured by a camera.
at first i was horrified but then i realized. nine times out of ten, what’s the question a woman asks after slipping on a pair of jeans? i betcha it has to do with that rumpa-​pum-​pum (i know, christmas was SO two weeks ago). even though i had my brutally honest friend with me, it was nice to see for myself what others would also see.
i told heather the kind of jeans i tend to favor and the cut i was seeking. not only did she find about five different pairs right off the bat, but she wasn’t afraid to tell me what she did or didn’t like about each specific jean i tried on and how she felt about that vendor or style. much appreciated. i left with a hot pair of ag charlotte jeans and a new swagga walk.

The Denim Lounge had a better selection of men’s Seven and Citizens of Humanity Jeans than the Bloomingdales at 900 and one other boutique Jeans store which I visited in old town. The staff were friendly and helpful; and even had a sense of humor. I’ve been here twice now and made a purchase on the second visit; would definitely recommend.
/​edit I see some mention a snooty manager here; and while this manager was not there on the day of my purchase; she was there when I stopped in the first time yesterday… and yes I can sense a very snooty attitude on her. Luckily I never had the need to interact with her; Jeremy helped me :). Hence the 4 star review.

Today was my second trip to the denim lounge and had an even worse experience then the first time. The lady who helped me pick out my jeans was pretty nice and helpful, but the manager/​owner was incredibly rude. The selection of jeans is awesome, but they stopped carrying my favorite brand which is 1921.
I found a pair, and thank god I had one of the swoop coupons because the jeans were incredibly pricey. I also chose a shirt to get because it was another 20% off.
The lady at the checkout counter was pretty snippy about taking my coupon, which bugged me. I take my purchases and leave, and get home to find a huge whole in the side of the shirt i got. I called to see if they could order another for me, and was cut off by the woman on the phone before i could finish my sentence. I will return the shirt and never shop there again. too bad i have another swoop coupon…

Though the staff that helped you find your jeans were nice, the manager or owner was totally rude. No, even with another Groupon or YouSwoop, I wouldn’t shop there!

If this review was written by my Dad or financial adviser, Denim Lounge would probably get 1 star because it is a bit pricey. But, as far as I know, they don’t have Unilocal accounts, and I do, so 4 stars it is!
I would rather splurge on clothes I truly like than have a closet full of bargain priced clothes that I don’t feel confident wearing.
Personally, I shop for clothes on an «as needed» basis, meaning that I am usually in a rush to find the perfect outfit for that night or the next day. Therefore, I like that the selection here is small… the owner/​buyer cuts down on the stress and time needed to search through a sea of racks to find something cute.
Despite it’s name and/​or target good, I’ve actually only bought one, or maybe two, pairs of jeans here. I love their selection of dresses and shirts.

It was time to encase my tuchus in some new premium denim so I decided to check out the offerings at the Denim Lounge. I was surprised the place was so small and even more surprised at the limited inventory. I couldn’t believe they didn’t carry True Religion – I was looking for those specifically. I stuck around anyway and asked the teeny tiny sales girl if I could try on a pair of the very cute jeans she was wearing, the AG tights, along with a pair of Joe Jeans in Visionaire and a pair of classic Sevens. My ass did not want to cooperate with ANY of them… must be all those squats I’ve been doing.
Teeny, tiny salesgirl suggested I try on a pair of CJ jeans and I internally winced. Isn’t that the line by Magic Johnson’s wife Cookie? The denim line for women with REAL bodies? Well I tried them on and was AMAZED! They looked really good on me. As I struck pose after pose in the buttcam, a small crowd gathered (ok, ok .2 sales chicks and some dude who was posing in the buttcam too) and told me how great I looked in them. Most of the time I don’t believe sales staff when they pile on the compliments, but I had to agree this time. I took THOSE jeans, my REAL body and sashayed out of the Denim Lounge one happy chick!

there was a problem however with my purchase as the groupon was somehow marked off as used already from the store record although this was the first time i even been to the store
nonetheless the owner gave me the discount and said she will clear up the issue
no complaints here, all in all a good experience, definitely will be back again!

I’m a little confused about some of the negative reviews for The Denim Lounge on here. I used my Groupon this past Friday (it expires in 1 week) and had a great experience. Tons of jeans to pick from, super friendly staff (I am a designer denim novice), over all great experience. I can see where people might get a little annoyed if the place was crowded, because its small, but waiting till the last minute on you Groupon is not their fault. My advice, go some day after work when its not as busy. I have faith that you’ll be very pleased. Next time I need a pair of jeans, I’m going back here even without a Groupon.

I came here with a groupon on a Monday evening around 5:30ish. At first I was a bit put off, as I spent about ten minutes in the store without seeing another face (including the salesperson’s). I kind of just stared at all the jeans, hoping someone would come out because I had no idea where to begin. Luckily, a nice young woman came out, apologizing for not hearing me come in. I immediately told her what I was looking for, and she was very eager to help, bringing me a couple new pairs every few minutes to my dressing room. After 5 or 6 tries, I found one I liked. She made sure that I really liked it, and offered to bring me even more, which was sweet. All in all, a positive experience… as long as you go on a weekday.

For a store that sells exclusively high end denim I was a bit surprised there wasn’t more to pick from. For men, there are basically two 8′ walls of jeans to pick from. The brands they have a pretty typical of what other department stores and stores that sell high end denim carry (e.g., Akira, etc). Their selection of styles in Seven jeans (which are my favorite, but I was kind of against buying another pair of anyway) wasn’t really any better than Filene’s Basement. I guess where the Denim Lounge excels is they have the sizes you need, even though the styles aren’t vast.
I went in knowing I had to walk out with a pair of jeans, and finding one I liked was a bit of a chore. I immediately eliminated anything that had huge rips down the middle, or jean pockets that looked like they were attacked by a bedazzler. I tried about 7 pairs on, and narrowed it down two three pairs, all of which were OK but no single pair stood out as «the one» … I ended up buying a pair that fit pretty well and I liked, though a bit plain.
They only give you a 25% discount on original hem at a nearby tailor, whereas at least one store I know will pay for it outright (…and if you spend $ 200 on a pair of jeans, why should you have to spend another $ 17 to get them tailored so they fit right…).
The sales girl was pretty helpful, and friendly.

I’ve been here a couple of times, and I definitely understand the mixed reviews. The staff is an interesting mix of totally helpful and awesome sweethearts, slightly vacant but still helpful sweethearts, and total assholes.
My friend bought one of the Denim Lounge groupons, in which you buy a $ 125 gift certificate for $ 50. He didn’t find anything he liked, so he gave it to me.
Wendy, one of the staff, fits into the «totally helpful sweetheart» mold. I walked in sort of vague about what I liked, and she gave me a bunch of jeans to help me narrow down my tastes. After trying out a few I knew what my tastes were — darker wash, straight leg that’s narrower than bootcut but not skinny, medium rise, easy to dress up with heels, etc. I found the perfect pair, and I ended up saving quite a bit with the groupon.
On another visit, I had to sort of bug someone to help me — she was nice, but also dreamy. She was cute and childlike. After I requested help a few times and chased her around a bit, she compensated with so much attention that it didn’t make much sense.
For example, she handed me several pairs of jeans, and the *second* I pulled the curtain closed she started asking me about how they all fit. Um. Then she continued to have a dialogue with me (herself, really) through the curtain the entire time I tried on jeans. But she did know a lot about denim, and I liked her.
A couple people here are unbelievably rude. The woman who rung me out told me she had a «funny feeling» that the groupon wasn’t actually mine. I explained as politely as I could that my friend bought it but that we thought it was transferrable. She said «I wasn’t talking to you,» and walked away to talk to someone.
Whoa. Maybe I misunderstood the word «yours,» and the fact that we were the only people in the room.
A gentleman came in, spoke about me as if I weren’t there for a few minutes, and they worked it out. I asked
«By the way, do you accept Discover?»
She shouted «No!,» as if I had asked her if I could pay in seashells.
The most uncomfortable aspect about this entire interaction was that she went through the whole conversation and transaction without looking at my face once. She kept her eyes lowered and only looked at my jeans, the register, my payment and receipt.
Forget customer service skills. Some of the staff here need training on how to interact with other humans in general.
That said, I absolutely *love* my jeans, and am happy with the women who helped me pick them out. They were a lot more helpful and knowledgeable than the staff at Nordstrom, whom I went to first when I wanted nice jeans. These are the best jeans I’ve ever worn, and keep getting nicer.
There’s one pair I *really* loved that was above my price range (GoldSign, for $ 268 plus tax) but isn’t part of the fun of shopping to always want something you can’t quite reach? I think so.

This place is weak, the space is cramped, and the owner was a jerk. That said, the saleswoman who helped me out was extremely nice and — while extremely overpriced — the jeans were very nice. I actually ended up buying my first two pairs of designer jeans, but only because they were on a ridiculous sale. At first, the owner would not honor a Groupon per the terms listed but eventually he came around, which is the ONLY reason I am giving 2 stars instead of 1. He did make me feel like a loser though for wanting to save some money.
Bottom line: If you want to pay $ 200 for jeans (and are presumably a very silly person) and enjoy being treated like dirt by a pretentious snob owner just because you have a Groupon, this store’s for you. Me, I’ll do my shopping elsewhere from now on.

If you’re a fan of paying crazy ridiculous prices for jeans, this place is for you! If you go in knowing this is no T.J. Maxx, I think you’ll have an enjoyable experience. The Denim Lounge has a very large selection of jeans, as I would expect from a place with «denim» in their name.
The customer service left a little bit to be desired. I was kind of forgotten about when the next customers came in. But the sales associate was helpful enough, I suppose. She did find me a good amount of jeans to try on at first.
But my most favorite part of this experience was seeing how cute my behind looked on that butt cam monitor thingy they have (I keed). But seriously, that’s the best idea ever! I’ll be damned if I buy a $ 150 pair of jeans and my booty looks less than fabulous. As long as I shop at the Denim Lounge, I won’t have that problem :)
All in all, I had a very pleasant experience here and am very pleased with my new pair of Hudson skinny jeans. Can’t say I’ll be back very soon, though… it’s a recession, folks!

I truly love this place. The selection is amazing and you can try all the jeans you want without someone pushing a sale down your throat (can you say department stores!)
The girl that help me was honest and wouldn’t let me walk out with jeans that made my behind look big or like a flat pancake, she was super helpful. It was a success for great looking jeans.
I also brought my husband in ’cause he hates shopping and this is as low-​key and chill as you can get… i think men really like shopping here ’cause you’re not getting pushed around.
Highly recommended!

The Denim Lounge is above the kids’ shop, Madison and Friends. The space is cramped and the selection is pretty limited. The men’s clothing seemed more interesting than the women’s, which consisted mainly of plain, boring shirts. This place is nothing special and prices are high.

I have been here a few times and I have been very happy with my purchases. The salespeople are really helpful and encourage you to try on jeans that you never knew you wanted. It can be a little annoying if you go in there looking for one particular style, but if you’re just on the hunt for good jeans, this is a good place to start.
Just be prepared to shell out some cash for the perfect jeans though.

The Denim Lounge and Madison & Friends has the cutest selection of baby and kids clothing I’ve ever seen! It’s straight out of the L.A./Robertson Bldv/​Kitson/​Fred Segal stores… if you can afford a $ 80 Juicy kiddie hoodie. As for the Denim Lounge, they have a super cute selection of tops and jeans. I love the bags too– I spotted a leather studded one that I had purchased a while back at Urban Outfitters, but they carried several more sizes, colors and styles. Really cute basic tanks and tees too.
Sometimes it’s a more fun to browse here than the usual racks at Nordstrom or Bloomie’s. (Plus, you can’t help but giggle at all the adorable kiddie clothing!!!)

I discovered the Denim Lounge located under Madison & Friends when I was buying a baby present for a friend. They have every brand of jeans imaginable and the sales associates are very helpful when it comes to finding the perfect pair of jeans. In addition, they carry very cute tops as well. It’s the perfect place to shop for casual trendy clothing!
