The Digital Convert was launched to provide a fast, affordable way for families and businesses to convert their photos and documents for sharing and preservation. It simply does not pay to buy a slow flatbed scanner and spend weeks of valuable time scanning pictures one-​by-​one. Seeing thousands of smiles every day sure can be uplifting! I guarantee there’s no dentist that sees as many in a day. With a background in marketing and public relations, I manage all the ongoing business operations at TheDig​i​tal​Con​vert​.com and personally ensure that your photos receive the attention and care they deserve. I’d expect no less for my own photos.

After receiving a BA in Communications from the University of Illinois, I thought I’d try an alternate path. Always with a passion for photos and graphic art, and adept with computers, I founded TheDig​i​tal​Con​vert​.com to help others pass on and preserve their family memories and important files. It’s a way to keep your life organized — not in boxes or closets — but always at your fingertips.

It’s a great feeling to be able to connect families dispersed around the country, to revive memories that haven’t been seen in decades. That direct impact is something you can never get sitting in a cubicle in corporate America.

Ezra did a beautiful job creating a video montage for our mother’s 100th birthday celebration. He was patient, thoughtful, and organized, dealing with our many precious photos. I did my part arranging selected pictures in chronological order, but he could have handled a disorganized collection as well, I’m sure. We worked together on the music and effects, with the net result being a real work of art. He seems to be able to handle whatever you throw at him with calmness and professionalism. I will definitely use him again.

I will use The Digital Convert again without shopping the job around. Even if I leave the Chicago area they have me.
They took 6 or 7 types of home movies and POOF!!! they are now on a USB drive. Their team even Translated Hebrew for the project (seems above and beyond to me).
The staff I had contact with seemed knowledgeable and were courteous. They expertly set and managed my expectations. = 5 Stars

The Digital Convert did us right.
Like most folks we had a shelf that looked like a museum of the evolution of digital recorders. We had every type of tape, mini-​dv, mini-​betamax and otherwise made for the last decade or two.
With a competitive estimate and good experience getting that we brought our mixed bag of media into be processed.
They finished exactly on time with the estimate and at less cost, since they do not charge for «dead air». We can not be more pleased.

There is no need to ship your 35 mm transparencies overseas to be digitized when the work can be done locally by the enthusiastic and competent folks who work at The Digital Convert. TDC recently digitized 2000+ slides spanning the years 1961 – 1984. What an amazing experience to review my family’s life in photos… well worth the expense because I do not own a slide projector and had no way to view this treasure trove. I also took some old cassette tapes of conversations with my late parents to be digitized. TDC did a fine job transferring the tapes to CDs and also to MP3 files… those voices will be preserved for posterity.

Had hundreds of prints, negatives and slides converted to digital and am super impressed with the work.
The digitized photos are far superior to what I could do on my own using a flatbead scanner and software. In addition, the folks that work there are a complete joy to interact with.
Am hooked — will be using them now to convert all my media.

I am so happy with the outcome of my recent scan order! The turnaround time was seriously only a matter of days! The price was very reasonable as well, much less than better-​known competitors and without the 6 week wait.
(I’m talking to you, Legacy Box, et al). I also had an old audiotape converted to MP3 which turned out great.
I now have all of my kids’ childhood photos NOT in a box in the basement collecting dust, but stored on my computer, where I might actually look at them periodically. I also had old photos scanned of my parents, grandparents and of me as a kid, for a different walk down memory lane… and scanning at 300 dpi produced beautiful images!
It was a pain to drive to the far north side, but well worth it. I asked for my photos and discs to be shipped to me, which arrived the next day via UPS.
I have more photos that I will definitely entrust to The Digital Convert to scan. I’ll probably ship them though to avoid the long drive. At least parking is easy if you do decide to drive.
I don’t understand any of the less-​than-​stellar reviews…

I stand by my 2-​star-​rating of the Digital Convert. After posting it, I received an email from the owner partially apologizing and offering explanations and closing with «I think you should give a business the benefit of the doubt and not suggest that your particular situation was representative of a business culture that has served well over a thousand families over the last five years. The situation was fleeting. Your review is permanent. Please keep that in mind.»
I thought about what he said and whether my review was unfair. I had read other Unilocal reviews before going to the Digital Convert and remembered that another reviewer said the owner had emailed him after a negative review. That got me wondering whether Ezra does this regularly — confronts anyone who ranks his business poorly. (I have no idea, of course.)
Still, I decided that I needed to think about whether I had been off base for a bit — and we were preparing for a several week trip abroad anyway, so I didn’t really have time to deal with the issue at that moment. Fast forward a day or two, and Ezra blasts me with an owner comment publicly disclosing my real first name (which you’ll notice I don’t use on my Unilocal profile) and labeling my review an «outlier.»
I understand his need to protect his business. But his response to me by email coupled with the public owner comment struck me as aggressive and vindictive. I gave an honest appraisal of my experience with his business. Ezra has every right to offer his perspective on our interactions, but I wish he would not have disclosed my real name. If he did not do it intentionally or to be vindictive, then perhaps he will edit his comment to remove my name now.
Regardless, the only substantive update I will make to my original review is this: I never intended to claim that I know what his office looks like except on the two occasions I was there. I also never said that I know about the quality of work he has done for other people. All I know about is my experience with the place. A different response from him may have brought me back. The one I received confirms that I personally have no interest in doing future business with him. You, of course, can make your own decision.

I had 200 photo prints of all different sizes and age that I needed scanned for a funeral out of state. I was hugely stressed on the time constraints and knew it would take me countless hours to scan at home. I dropped them off at Digital Convert in kind of a mess of multiple plastic bags. He scanned them for me and kept everything separate and organized. He knew it was for a funeral and did a major rush in 1 day for me. I REALLY appreciated his empathy and flexibility, since I could see many people saying «tough luck» if you asked for such a rush service. The family was thrilled to see all the photos in a slideshow at the funeral and grateful to have that history preserved. I will definitely be back for more scanning and transfers, very professional and kind service! Quality was good too.

I was given a task to create a slideshow of a friend’s childhood pictures to display at his graduation party. When assigned to do this, I was going crazy thinking I have to scan 200 hundred pictures all by myself while working full-​time and also being a full-​time student?! Thank God I was able to google ideas and found The Digital Convert website. I went into the website and found most of the information that I needed. I called to get prices and was able to afford it more than afford my time! They gentleman was able to cope with my late timing and do it faster than expected. The picture quality was good and everything worked out perfect. Another good idea to gather all old pictures and convert them to go onto your computer and keep up with all the new technology and easy management! 5 Stars to The Digital Convert! Ezra, the owner, does amazing work! We needed a slide show on very short notice for my mother’s 90th birthday and our daughter’s graduation party. I thought I could do it myself — LOL! Ezra clearly explained my options to organize, display and add music to my photos. The DVD was ready on time, as promised, and his pricing is extremely reasonable. The Digital Convert DVD was the hit of the party!!!

Had a once in a lifetime Everest trip, transferred from VHS to DVD, since my original laptop that I created this video file was no longer working and the VHS tape was a copy. The owner did a great job, in under 3 days, and created a nice title page as well. The prices are so low, I suggested he raise his prices. Was very satisfied. TIP: Call ahead to see if your project is complete before driving there. He has a lot of projects going on.

I needed a quick turnaround presentation of 89 years of photos of my father for his funeral, and Ezra came through. The DVD he created for me was beautiful, and very well received at the visitation and luncheon; Ezra was very accommodating and even stayed late for me to drop off and pick up within the short time frame I had to work with… I plan to have Ezra scan all my family photos. I have my own scanner, but his services are quite reasonable and this long overdue project can once and for all be complete. If you have boxes of photos laying around like I do, you should call Ezra.

I had around 70 old photos transfered to digital. I was concerned after reading Micheal L.‘s review here on Unilocal complaining about the quality (dust/​hair?). I was astounded when I received my finished product. The quality exceeded expectations! The digitized photos were actually much better looking than the originals! This is because time was taken to make adjustments to the photos rather than just scan. I want to be clear that what ever adjustments were made are 100% natural looking and just aimed at restoring the look of the original photo (taking red/​yellow from fading out). No hairs or dust to be found. The service was performed quickly and was inexpensive.

The first thing I liked about this business was that Ezra responded to my email (to their general customer service address) immediately, and on a weekend no less. He was very friendly and helpful.
The prices are very reasonable, and the turnaround time was good. Ezra was careful to explain the options and ask exactly how I wanted the files formatted and organized.
I laughed at the other reviewer who mentioned the bizarro office space. Yeah, it’s pretty weird stuff. But hey, at least you know you’re not paying for a lot of overhead costs.

I needed fast turnaround for DVD duplication and Ezra was helpful, responsive and creative. He made the label art look great and was able to meet a tight schedule. I would recommend The Digital Convert to anyone — I am sure he does great work in the other services he provides.

If the pictures were of such great quality, why would you send me a follow-​up email apologizing for any misunderstanding in the quality of your work and recommending another company «that are good people» in your own words. Instead of standing behind the quality of your work and service, you make excuses to justify the flaws. All I need say is «THANKS…YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!»

My boss found the digital convert earlier this year for some film that we’d found cleaning out a closet. They were all medium format film of images so they weren’t the normal 35 mm and Ezra did scanned them all for us at a great price and quick turn around. He scanned them to whatever DPI we requested and we packaged them nicely in a cd.
I also appreciated that he is open past 5:30!
The office building is the weirdest part of the whole experience, it’s an old building that seemed to be built in the early 60’s and last updated in the early 80’s in a 70’s style. It’s very Lynch and I could see this whole office building hosting strange businesses with weird characters. It office building feels like a cheesy set for a weird surreal office drama.
