The Euchre Club of Chicago

What a fun club! If you like to play euchre, you should check this out. Everyone in the club is very nice, and if you play cards with these people, you will improve your game!

It’s still 4 dollars to play on a normal night. It is still also only a $ 15 annual membership fee for regular players. The top scorer on a given night wins a $ 25 bar tab, and then another player from the evening is randomly selected to win a $ 10 bar tab. They also run several tournaments throughout the year, including a holiday party, a tournament of champions, and a tournament about a boat cruise on Lake Michigan during the summer!
The normal schedule is as follows (currently):
Sunday — 6:00p at Charlie’s
Tuesday — 7:30p at The Jackhammer
Wednesday — 7:30p at Big Chicks
Saturday — 6:00p at Big Chicks

the first time i came to the euchre club was before i lived in chicago. 3 friends and i took a weekend trip to chicago from champaign and decided to give it a whirl, as we are all completely obsessed with the game and had trouble finding people to play with on a regular basis. the club was very welcoming– especially to 4 random college kids from out of town. we had such a good time that after i won the bar tab (!), we ended up sticking around for hours talking to a bunch of cool members.
quick breakdown on the club: they play 4 nights a week, tues/​sun at charlie’s on broadway and wed/​sat at big chicks on sheridan. every time you play, it’s $ 4, you play 5 games (different partner every time), and the person with the highest score for the night wins a $ 35 bar tab! once you’ve been to the club 3 times, they ask that you pay a $ 15 membership fee. this is a once a year fee, and also gets you into their tournaments and parties, which are SWEET (huge cash prizes, open bar/​catered parties, general good times).
now that i live up here, these guys are like my second family. you can show up any night you want and there will be a great group of people there to play cards and drink with. the club is mostly gay men, but i have brought straight men and women who had a blast, and there are usually a few newcomers each week who want to try it out. my dad even wants to go! if you are a beginner, you can go early any night and someone will play with you.
