The Twisted Baker

I probably should have bought pastries here; they look heavenly. But I got a bacon sandwich and vegan kale soup. The soup was surprisingly good, and the sandwich was just okay.
Beverage amenities are lacking. No fresh cream/​milk is available for your coffee– only little creamer packets. Also, they charge for hot water, even as a refill for a used tea bag.
Ambience is quite and chill. Some good Al Green going on in here.
Service was awkward; maybe it was our barista’s first day on the job? Or maybe I made it awkward by checking Unilocal before ordering, and complaining about the hot water charge! Unclear.

Perhaps one of my favorite bakeries in all of Chicago. All of their stuff is made fresh daily, with whole ingredients and insanely great flavors. The Chipotle Cheddar biscuit is great as a breakfast sandwich. The croissants are crisp on the outside and chewy on the inside. Really a standout gem in the cacophony that is Lakeview.

The big chocolate chip cookies here are SO GOOD.

Great little coffee shop in Lincoln Park. Free wi fi, friendly staff and plenty of nice pastries to sample. There aren’t many coffee shops in the area so The Twisted Baker is a great local option.

Smooth and rich, Melts in your mouth and leaves you longing for just one more bite. The cheesecake was a bit on the sweet side for my own personal preference. Two pieces lasted me for the whole week!

On a recent weekend, I visited The Twisted Baker to pick up pastries for a coffee hour. I scanned the offerings, and was impressed with the variety of cookies (75 cents each, including a cookie with potato chips and tea cookies). There were a couple varieties of biscuits, croissants, scones, muffins, and an assortment of macaroons. Before investing in coffee hour, I opted to try the blueberry scone. With dried blueberries and a balance of sugar, flour, and butter, it was a-​ok. Spoiled by fresh blueberry scones and scones with flavored glaze, I didn’t think the scone was special.

I’ll come here for a quick fix in the morning or afternoon. They have delicious sandwiches. I like the Twisted Club. Definitely hits the spot. There cheesecake is definitely delicious (can’t get enough of the crust). Not really a fan of sweet stuff so I can’t say I liked the cupcakes very much. The chocolate éclair is gigantic though and my husband (who has a sweet tooth) definitely loves it.

I moved around the corner about 4 months ago. Since then, I have made this place my favorite weekend «breakfast treat shop». I love starting a Saturday or Sunday morning with a coffee and one of their breakfast sammies on their delicious flaky croissants or cheddar biscuits. Also, I don’t eat bacon, or canadian bacon, so they always accommodate me and let me have turkey with egg instead, which is a nice plus!
Chocolate croissants, scones, and muffins are awesome too and a great side order if you need something sweet alongside your breakfast sandwich.
I also ordered a cake for a friends birthday cake which was definitely a hit! Delicious, moist, and yummy frosting.
Everyone working there is always very friendly. I always say I am going to try the quiche, tart, or something from the other «fancy» cooler, but haven’t made my way to that side of the case yet. I am still hoping to try out their cookies, especially those macarons.
I love that it is my neighborhood go-​to!

Great food menu, and very courteous staff. Sandwiches are great. Try eating on the patio!

The Twisted baker, I had such high hopes when I saw this place was coming and had breakfast sandwiches! Which seem to be a rare commodity in the Chicago land area.
First day open I had the bacon egg and cheese
Biscuit/​bread– Amazing, I could eat the bread a lone and almost be happy
Beacon– Crispy and delicious, this is bacon though how can you go wrong
Egg– Disgusting chewy and pretty much inedible, I came back later to see the cause of this egg travesty. The egg isn’t cooked but microwaved.
For the love of bacon egg and cheese. Please cook the egg, if this was done I would be there every day. Instead I now I rarely come in any only for the pastry items which are delicious.
Coffee here is okay, not the best not the worst slightly worse than starbucks
PLEASE fix the bacon egg and cheese so I can give you 4 stars

This place is much more than a bakery. I had no idea they had breakfast and lunch sandwiches. The egg cheese and ham on chipotle bread or fresh croissant is amazing. Their ham quality is exceptional. I love the dark roast coffee blend as much as Starbucks. This is a must try for the sandwiches /​coffee for anyone in the area.

This place has just re-​opened on a new spot just north of Fullerton Avenue on Lincoln Avenue… Even better than the original incarnation but same great owners

This place is closed and Unilocal doesn’t inform about it. The owner should post something here so we don’t waste time going there for nothing. Will it be a new location? Is it closed for good? My review is 4 stars because I love their stuff…

What could be better than your bf surprising you with a cupcake on a miserable rainy Saturday? Well… I’ve tasted better.
I had the vanilla cupcake. As always I started with the frosting which was sugary and delicious so I thought I was going to be in for a treat. Taking my first bite of the cupcake was a disappointment. It wasn’t sweet at all and in fact quite dry. If it wasn’t for the frosting I would think it was cornbread verses a cupcake.
Maybe I need to try some of the other bakery selections but not a fan of the cupcakes.

Twisted Baker has hands down the best breakfast sandwich in Chicago and is the best spot for a quick breakfast in Old Town. Service is friendly and fast, and there’s outdoor seating on the sidewalk.
Breakfast menu options are limited (no bacon?!?) — it is first and foremost a bakery after all — but the breakfast sandwiches are excellent the way they are. Both the croissant and cheddar biscuits are great, but I’d highly recommend the chipotle cheddar biscuit with all the toppings.
There are a handful of tables inside, and it feels more like grandma’s kitchen than a trendy place for brunch. I’ve even witnessed several people walk in and quickly walk back out. Don’t let the looks fool you though, the food is worth trying. One of these days, I’ll even have to try the baked goods…

These days it takes a lot to impress me with cupcakes. I have to say The Twisted Baker did just that though. I got a bunch of cupcakes for friends so I was able to try many flavors and each was superb!
When I walked into the store, I was firstly impressed with the really friendly service. The lady who took care of me had a lovely demeanor and seemed to be happy to be there. A few people were in the bakery gabbing over goodies. It seems like a great little shop to meet with friends for some treats and catch up.
They have a great display of all of their items and she told me they had more of everything in the back. She iced all my cupcakes right then and there for me and packed them in a little box. Uhhh that is smart and awesome. Also, I greatly appreciate the shops that have the special cupcake boxes with spots specially for them so they don’t slip and slide around.
I tried the chocolate, red velvet, chocolate cheesecake and cookie dough cupcakes. They have a special deal on Wednesdays that is even better than their 6 for $ 15 cupcakes so opt for that! The best of the bunch for me was the cookie dough which I got my choice of either chocolate or vanilla cake. It was so very good with real cookie dough inside.
The frosting on each cupcake was rich and perfect, not light and airy which made me happy. Perfect cake on each cupcake as well, not dry at all.
I also got a couple of cookies to try — the chocolate chip and double chocolate. They are quite small but the price tag is just 75 cents each so not bad for a quick dose of sugar. I liked both but the chocolate chip was much better as it seemed a bit more fresh.
I think their cupcakes are their money spot, but really I enjoyed everything I got. I really would like to go back and try more of their baked goods — they have so many to choose from. Delicious treats, adorable shop and splendid service.

I prefer The Twisted Baker over La Fournette (which is next door) for the prices, though I wish they had the space to accomodate a lot of people (which, being a small bakery– they do not.) They have a limited amount of seating space, unless you’re willing to share your table with some people. As a solo eater most days, I don’t mind sharing, but I’d love more space to do homework and sprawl around. It’s just easier.
That being said, I love the sandwiches here. The Granny Bacon is the perfect sandwich, and exceeds all expectations. They have good cookies, but obviously they’ve been sitting around for a little bit– so they’re not hot from the oven. I’ve only tried their cookies, tarts and sandwiches. I want to try their biscuits sometime. The pricing is right and pretty reasonable for the area. I like th efood here, but will have to come back and wish they had more space!

Fall is my favorite season & as many people know, I’m a complete sucker for all things pumpkin. So when we saw The Twisted Baker’s sandwich-​board offering pumpkinny treats, BFF & I couldn’t resist
Seeing a Pumpkin Tart (the tart was like a pumpkin pie) & Pumpkin Cheesecake in their case, I asked which was better & by only a slight margin, we were steered towards the cheesecake
Verdict? Amazing Pumpkin Cheesecake!
Thick graham-​cracker crust & a dense pumpkinny cheesecake layer. Not too sweet & they let the pumpkin do all the talking… & it was saying YUM
Wished we had indulged in the tart as well — next time for sure!

The day old cookie packets are brilliant. Two tea cookies wrapped up together for a dollar. Tea Clouds, Molasses, Ice Box, Short Bread, some lovely herbed one, a few others. It’s a perfect little pick me up if you are:
*waiting for a train/​bus that is.taking.forever
*waiting for the rain to abate
*in need a bit of an afternoon pick-​me-​up
*needing to calm your nerves (yoga helps, sugar works in a pinch)
*recovering from a run in with a tourist
*preemptively thwarting a bad day at work by putting a packet in your lunch
They have some wonderful-​looking savory bread puddings, tarts, cupcakes, lemon bars (which I enjoyed on a concrete bench along Lake Michigan), and scones. But really, it’s all about the cookies.
