History

Established in 1988.

Conceived not just as a bookstore, but as a place for the Arts and Letters. Many famous Hispanic writers came to read and discuss their works with our friends and clients. Authors like the Cervantes Prize winner Elena Poniatowska visited Tres Americas. Rosario Ferre and Carlos Monsivais also visited the bookstore. In Tres Americas was born the first literary magazine, entirely in Spanish, produced in Chicago, in 1990. For many years, Tres Americas hosted the Latino Chicago Film Festival. Customers would come and meet famous actors and directors.
