I had the same experience here as most of you. Wow, how completely unprofessional. I was so excited to try this place, the 1st time I went was in October and it was fine(although they did reschedule my appointment on the morning of but I let that one go and still gave them the benifit of the doubt). Second time took almost 5 hours for a gloss and a pedicure! My daughter had a terribe diaper rash when I got her home. I was going to give them one more try with a color only a day before a family photo shoot we had scheduled for Christmas. I got an email(full of errors) from Tara one hour before my appointment saying they had a «computer problem» and wouldn’t be able to keep my appointment. I emailed back immediately expressing my unhappiness and I never heard from Tara or anyone else from there again. Sooooo strange.

DONOTPATRONIZETHISBUSINESS!!! I purchased two vouchers for Urban Mom Salon — I have attempted to use my vouchers with the merchant twice now. The first time, there was a «family emergency» two hours before my appointment. I was emailed, apologized to and rescheduled. Acceptable. The second time, I show up with my 3 year old and no one is there. The salon isn’t open at all. A woman(assumed employee or assistant) said something to me about the stylist/manager having broken a key in her door at home. It’s cold and I put my child back in the car and let this lady know that I will stay near but, don’t want to wait in the cold and to have the stylist/manager call me asap. Clearly she had a way to communicate as this person knew something about what was happening! I check my email about an hour later to discover my appointment was cancelled(via an automatic message from the scheduling software) while I was THERE! In the parking lot! I called the salon at least 8 times… left two voicemail messages… have sent emails stating that I need to be contacted immediately. I HAVEHEARDNOTHINGWHATSOEVER! I do not want to get my hair done here. It is completely and utterly unprofessional! Again I’ve heard absolutely nothing and I refuse to do business with this merchant and will recommend you do NOT go here. After reading some of the other reviews this is apparently a problem here as it appears I’m not the only one this has happened to. Again, I DONOTRECOMMENDURBANMOMSALON. It’s a shame… the concept is needed.

My girlfriend and I treked all the way out there in the snow for our appointment and they were closed! didnt even call to let us know! After they had already confirmed the appointment! What terrible business! I called and left a message and I didnt even get a return phone call! If they would have let me know I could have gotten another appointment somewhere else! We had a wedding to attend that night… Not even an apology!

I had the same terrible experience as some of you had. I, too, received a refund from Family Finds after going to my 10am appt(with my 2 yo) and waiting for 30 minutes for someone to open the salon. Tried calling several times and the phones were not working. No return call, no apology.

Why has no one thought of this before??? I just had an amazing experience at this salon! With my 17 month old daughter in tow I was very excited to try this place out! We BOTH loved it! I had my hair highlighted, cut and styled by Tara and couldn’t be happier! My daughter had great time playing with Zandra in their adorable play space! Even after over 3 hours my daughter didn’t want to leave! A good time was had by all!

I had such a wonderful experience at this salon! I got a haircut from Tara while my girlfriend got a pedicure from? Amelia?Anna?- not sure. We both left our sons, ages 21 months and 18 months with the nanny in the playroom and it couldn’t have been more comfortable! The front desk received us with a warm welcome and our boys were instantly enthralled with the playroom. The nanny on staff was so gentle and sweet; I was a bit apprehensive, but only because my son has never had a stranger watch him. Thankfully, they have a high window where you can check in as frequently as you like. Here is what I saw: my son having a snack(provided by the salon), my friend’s son pushing a shopping cart full of toys, both boys enjoying peek-a-boo in the tent castle and everyone gathered around the train table laughing and smiling. Since my son was so well-cared for; I truly enjoyed my haircut! Tara is SOFUN! We had a great conversation(on topics NOT about kids!!) while she lightened my heavy locks and gave me great advice about hair-coloring. I know I will be back. In fact, I dropped some very heavy hints on my husband and I’m fully expecting a gift card for the holidays. While everything was great– I need to add one thing: the prices for nail services are a little high. $ 30 for a pedicure is a bit much. I paid $ 60 for my haircut(but it is EXCELLENT and worth it). The childcare was $ 7 for each kid($ 4 for siblings). My only critique would be that they just charge $ 10 for kidcare and drop the nail service prices to $ 25 or so.

Great concept– well executed. The sitters were great and the playroom had lots of stuff for little ones to explore. The salon is nice too.

This place is a gem! The manager, Tara, is incredibly friendly and helpful. I brought my 2.5 year old in so I could get a mani/pedi. The nanny fed him his lunch, and played with him. She did not just sit back and watch him play. He was the only child in there, and I could here them both laughing hysterically. My mani/pedi was wonderful and so relaxing. Tara helped buckle my son into his car seat, so I wouldn’t ruin my nails. I can’t wait to go back!

I cannot believe that I am the first to review Urban Mom! I was so sure that other moms would gave beaten me to review this blessing of an establishment. And this is exactly what Urban Mom is – a blessing. Being mommy to toddler Darian, I cannot believe that he is a toddler already, my time is spent keeping him out of trouble, while letting him explore the world he sees. All this and also trying to maintain my home. Sometimes it can feel daunting and exhausting. And taking time out for myself to be pampered and relax seems like a distant memory. But with the advent of Urban Mom, I can allow myself to be pampered and be comforted that Toddler D is getting the attention he deserves and having a chance to explore and have fun. Urban Mom Salon is located in Bucktown and is a one-stop shop where you can receive hair styling, body waxing and manicures and pedicures. No big deal, right. But what if I were to tell you, you can bring your child with you to Urban Mom and while you are being pampered they can have fun and explore in the salon’s playroom, while being supervised by a certified nanny.(Insert Hallelujah chorus here) Urban Mom, where have you been my entire mommy life. Never mind, I’m glad you are here. Now, moms we won’t have to feel guilty about getting away for ourselves for a couple of house, while also missing our children desperately. During my visit to Urban Mom, Tara, the manager met me at the door ad helped me carry in my bag, diaper bag and son into the modernly decorated salon. The playroom is filled with a plethora of toys, games, bubble machine, music and staffed with a dedicated nanny to watch the children in the playroom.(Moms, if you are worried about security, don’t be. The door to the playroom can only be accessed from the salon side, so your children cannot leave the room. Also, the door is also locked and can only be accessed by a staff member of the salon, who escorts you to collect your child once your service is over. The staff is friendly, the manicure and pedicure service I had was amazing(long overdue and relaxing) and I was comforted that my son was being cared for, while I cared for myself. And to be the best moms we can be, we have to take care of ourselves. Thank you, Urban Mom, for helping me do that last week. I will be back.
