Wax By Eva

Let me start off by saying I NEVER write reviews because I give majority of businesses the benefit of the doubt. However, in this case, I choose to let you know my experience to prevent you from potentially having the same.
The first time I went to Eva I was excited I finally found a place close to home who did an efficient job. She was easy to talk to, although she was very blunt in some of her interaction (telling me I shouldn’t have the «Hitler mustache» and do another design, or attacking me asking why I trimmed so much). It was very slow when I first went to her, so I never experienced any interruptions.
On the contrary, the second and LAST time I went completely changed my views. She does not use gloves and touches you with her bare hands, which I find weird and unsanitary. The place itself feels like you’re about to get a check up from your Gynecologist. Bright lights, table up against the wall, no music or calming atmosphere inside the room, only in the waiting area.
She finished the Brazilian and then quickly did my eyebrows. Eva never gave me a mirror after to take a look, and soon after I realized why. She butchered my eyebrows. One was nice and thick, while the other was a skinny little caterpillar. The shapes were entirely uneven. This was extremely disappointing and embarrassing, since I had been growing them out for quite some time to be nice and thick. Eva gave no regard to that fact and did what she wanted and did it very quickly without any time or care.
That’s not all… she only takes cash tips and I only had a $ 20 bill. She had NO change! How do you run your own business and not carry the correct funds? She is a one woman show, and not in a good sense. Eva is her own receptionist (during her treatments she is on the phone scheduling more appointments on speaker, so I could hear everyone’s conversation) she is her own bank without the sufficient funds to return the proper change, and she does not put the care behind her work that one would expect and appreciate considering she is working in such invasive areas.
Needless to say, I will not be returning. It has been a few months and I am STILL growing my one eyebrow back out that was reduced to a skinny little sliver.

Good: Fast, removes majority of the hair, cheap.
Bad: Unsanitary (Double dipping, no gloves, touching the phone while working on your private parts). Doesn’t try to make you comfortable, as making you dress/​underss in front of her, posing you in weird ways on her table. (Like throwing your leg on her shoulder — Ah?!)
I was her client for a while, but got an infection. I am not 100% sure it’s from her services but symptoms started a couple of days after my Brazilian.
If she would be a little bit more caring about client’s health, i would still be a client. Until then, no way.

Amazing! So happy to find someone on my first try! I just moved to Chicago and was pleased that the reviews were all true. Eva is lovely. Lets be honest, waxing inst really something anyone enjoys. Eva made the experience pretty easy, and relatively painless. She will definitely be my go to moving forward!

Eva was wonderful!!! She had graciously squeezed me in before I went on a month trip to Europe and even though traffic had me more than 30 minutes late she still made time for me! This was my first time getting waxed and even though it hurt at times she waxed me beautifully! It’s a little ways away from my house because she’s downtown so I tried going somewhere closer and they did not compare! I’m definitely coming back to Eva, she made me feel very comfortable and relaxed and did a great job! I recommend her to everyone.

I always get a Brazilian wax with Eva. She is the best. I had been to many spas to get a Brazilian wax before I found her. It took her only 10 minutes to do the full Brazilian wax and she always does a good job. She is very busy with many appointments every day. She always makes me feel comfortable and the wax is always painless. recommended.

I saw Eva today for a Brazilian Wax. The building is easy to find on Michigan Ave. The office is nice and comfortable with relaxing décor. I felt the receptionist and Eva were both very welcoming and friendly.
I met with Eva, we walked back to the wax room and I undressed from the waist down and laid on the waxing table and she gave me a towel to cover with. Everything was very clean. For those uncomfortable getting undressed with her in the room I’m baffled by. She turns around so you can undress, it’s not like she’s starting at you. And in just moments you are going to be spread eagle with her all up in your vajayjay waxing away, so seriously, remember what service you went in for! It is not for the extremely modest!
There was discomfort, but nothing unbearable at all. It’s a delicate area. At times there will be discomfort but I thought her technique minimized it.
I thought she was fantastic so in addition I had my eye brows waxed and underarms done… My bod looks great! I will be back no doubt about it.

I have read the glowing reviews. I had the opportunity to try this location for myself and the quality and care of the wax job simply were not up to my standards and probably broke a few sanitation rules, too. Read On:
Firstly, Eva is nice. There is nothing about her demeanor or her personality to complain of whatsoever.
I called Eva before my appointment to ask if I could come in early. She stated that somehow my appointed got accidentally cancelled and it was good that I called (no kidding because I paid for parking and drove from the western suburbs).
I met with Eva. I am use to a type of decorum when getting a wax. I’m allowed to get undressed privately and then the esthetician returns to the room. I get it, no use of being coy when undergoing a fairly intimate procedure to begin with, but I thought there was some type of tact needed. Eva just stayed in the room.
I explained to Eva what I wanted and she strongly suggested something else. I didn’t end up liking her suggestion and so we went with the next best alternative.
She slipped on ripping the wax strip on 2 or 3 occasions. Let me tell you, I can only remember that happening to me once 7 years ago and it’s just as painful then as it was that moment. She didn’t even bother to ask if I was okay. And maybe this is minor. I’m a seasoned waxer and I could only help but think, if this was my first time… I’d run for the hills!

In the middle of my wax, she takes a PHONE CALL! And proceeds to walk to her schedule book by the sink and discuss appointments. THEN, she places the phone on speaker and sets the phone between my legs on the table. No, I’m not making this up… I wish that I were! That’s not sanitary and as I write this, I realized she hadn’t washed her hands after handling the phone and her date book.
Cross contamination to say the least. And why wasn’t she wearing gloves? These questions are a little too late, but in the midst of everything it wasn’t what I was initially thinking.
And finally, those two things hadn’t completely turned me off yet… what did it were the results.
I ended up breaking out from her wax job and there were quite a few places where she missed hair. I was also much more sore than I can ever remember.
I’m sure many of the women here write glowing reviews as a result of having an established relationship with Eva and/​or love her VERY personable demeanor. For me, it’s not worth the results.
I can think of so many other excellent places to go. I wanted to see what all the hype was about and I am overly disappointed!
Why not just one star? Eva’s establishment is nice. The location is good. The price is average.
I won’t go back. Ever.

I have been going to Eva since she was at her old location. I am so happy she has her own salon now, it is a very clean place to get your waxing on. Eva is very nice, professional like everyone has said. And if you’re in the mood to talk her conversation makes the process go by faster.
I will definitely keep going to her for all my waxing services & the friends i have recommended her to love her service as well.

I’m a marathon runner, waxing is a must. And YES, she does men. And does a great job (though I question whether she might like inflicting pain just a little too much! LOL). Seriously, 100% professional service in a beautiful office building, great location. Outstanding job, I would highly recommend, and will use again on my next Chicago trip!

Girl. Just go. I’ve had terrible experiences (cough! Holly’s on Broadway) but Eva takes the cake. Quick, professional, and a nice lady to boot. Love her!!!

I love Eva. I’ve been going to her for a few years now and she certainly deserves the great reviews!

Not that his place needs another 5 star review. but here goes. AMAZING! I’ve never waxed before (I did sugaring once which took 45 minutes for just the bikini line, not the whole *ahem* shebang) and this was a seamless experience. For the entire lady area and backside it took 20 minutes. She’s in a beautiful building right on Michigan ave (be prepared to sign in) on the 10^th floor. No it’s not painless, ripping out your crotch hairs will never be. But it hurt maybe 5 seconds after the pull. (The most painful part is the top, strangely not the lips or backside like I thought it would be). She’s professional, as chatty as you want her to be, and THOROUGH. I suggest a cocktail or two beforehand if you’re a wimp like me but once it’s done there’s no pain. Just a beautiful downstairs ;)

You can’t avoid the pain associated with a bikini wax but Eva’s technique and table manner are superb!
Although my balled up sweaty underwear (from clutching them during the waxing) may not agree. Not only is her salon discreet, clean, and calming her skills are out of sight! There is a reason this woman gives the best wax in the city. Hands down five stars.

Best wax job in town. I recommend everybody to Wax by Eva. She is down to earth and don’t be late or miss your appointment, she will get on you. It’s all out of love. Lol. She’s really quick and did I mention the the nose wax? Painless.
Stop procrastinating and get it done. You will be completely satisfied. And never go to anyone else. She doesn’t miss a spot. There is convenient parking across the street at the Intercontinental hotel and is validated at the lobby of Eva office. You’ll even have time to do some shopping.

I am writing a second review because Eva is the H.B.I.C and my one and only esthetician and i need to lay down the FACTS for her. For those of you who might be a little confused on Eva’s technique let me lay it on the line:
Eva gets down to the nitty gritty of your koochi. She is not a man your casually dating, she is not taking you out to dinner, and your not going to play shy and reserved with her… Eva don’t play that. EVA’s sole purpose is to LITERALLY get into your pants. The fact that some women are bitching about her not leaving the room while they change is mind boggling to me. Umm what do you expect when you’re getting a brazilian… either way eva is going to see your vagina at some point hello!!!
Eva does not use gloves because that is her preference. If you want gloves ask her and she will put them on. If she wears gloves the wax will stick to the latex and she prefers to not wear gloves because it allows her to feel for the ingrown hair that is underlaying the skin. No matter the case Eva washes her hands before and after each client multiple times.
She places the paper found in medical offices where you lay down to get waxed and she is constantly replacing it after every client so its completely sanitary.
Eva may make you do a weird position like a gymnast so that she can get into every crevice of your vagina to guarantee you have no strays or ingrown hair lingering. If it hurts then it works. Beauty is pain bitches and if at any point you having your follicle ripped or plucked out of your skin hurts well once again what did you expect??? IF in the past you went to another esthetician and you had a completely painless wax and you WEREN’T under any sort of drugs such as pain relieving medication then you are one of the following people:
1) You are a lucky bitch who has very thin pubic hair. Congratulations on not being a hairy ape that gives evidence to the notion of evolution that we human beings came from chimpanzees… unlike the rest of us unfortunate women *sigh*

2) The previous twat you went to before Eva wasn’t properly waxing your kooch, was tearing the hair follicle instead of completely removing it from its root… thus causing it to be completely painless and resulting into a shitty wax which leaves you with ingrown hairs.
Either way you have to respect someone who has such a passion for removing unpleasant things on our bodies and takes such pride in removing unsightly hair from vaginas and penises all over the Chicago area. Keep doing your thing Eva… my vagina and I have the deepest appreciation and gratitude for you. My vagina gives a sincere round of applause to you every time i make it clap.

Why is 0 stars not an option?
I decided to give this place a shot because my regular waxist was on maternity leave and this place came highly recommended by one of my girlfriends. I saw it got stellar reviews from Unilocal so I thought why not? Within 2 minutes into the appt I thought, OMG. WTF did I just walk into.
We get into the room and she tells me to take my clothes off while she’s standing right there. Okay fine, I can handle that. We’re women and I’m not embarrassed of my lady parts, whatever. So I do that, walk up to the table and see that there is a towel under the regular tissue paper with a HAIR ON IT. I think, okay just breathe. Do not freak out. I tell her and she changes it, we proceed.
So now we begin. I was expecting her to explain to me her «special method» because I remember reading that from previous reviews, nope. She just went right at it which I was fine with. She starts the wax and I thought I felt bare hands and I look down AND SHE ISN’T WEARING ANY GLOVES. I’m sorry, but if you are working on women’s lady parts shouldn’t you be wearing gloves? I work in healthcare and I glove up in any and all instances so I just kept thinking what the f. The fact that she also has longer nails, wouldn’t that be harboring bacteria? I just stared into the ceiling in utter disbelief. She tried carrying small talk but I just couldn’t do any of it. I wanted this appt to be done asap so I can go home and shower.
Other things that weren’t so stellar: having me put my left leg up against the wall, when she got to my right leg she lifted it up and just threw it over her shoulder. What? Lastly, she noticed an ingrown and was really trying to dig it out even after I said it hurt and she should just let it be. Sigh. Finally the appt was over (thank goodness) and she had me sit up and she tossed a towel at me to wipe off the excess baby powder on my legs. I got dressed while she was still in the room and she started «cleaning u.» I took my time because I wanted to see if she would change the towel under the paper cover, NOPE. Her phone also started ringing and she just answered like it was no big deal. Can we please have some professionalism here?
Needless to say, I won’t be returning and I am going to apologize to my regular waxist for not being loyal. I guess that’s what I get for trying to save some money.
If you’re looking for some positives in this review, here are two: she tweezes out little strays which I appreciated and she only charged $ 50. Frankly, I’d be happy to pay double for her to wear gloves and to ensure she changes the towels between clients.

I have been seeing Eva for over a year for all my womanly needs and she is by far the BEST at waxing! I, like many others, have made the mistake of going to someone else when I couldn’t get in to see Eva and regretted it. This is my first Unilocal reveiw and I think Eva is more deserving of it than anyone.
She is quick, the experience is painless (YES, PAINLESS) and she does an amazing job. I live about 45 mins away and make the trek every 4 weeks to see this woman, trust me, you will not regret it!
She is very very busy so appointments are a must and don’t get discouraged if you can’t see her right away, she is so worth the wait!
And for my darker skinned ladies, she does a good job with our hair types (I know that is often a concern for ethnic women who want to be waxed)

I moved to Chitown three months ago. I’ve done my eyebrows three times since. Each time has been disastrous!!! Twice at two Benefit locations and once at European Wax Center which left me enraged (see my review for details and for an uttermost laugh of the day). I was skeptical when I saw Eva’s page pop out as the #1 wax center in Chicago. But, I figured nothing could be worse than what happened to me before so, hey, let me give her a shot.
I walked to the building at lunch from Erie. I only have half an hour so the distance made me a bit nervous. I walked in, immediately got taken back to the wax room, she worked her magic, and I was gone in what seemed to be a blink of an eye. She was quick. She was thorough! She convinced me to wax the inside of my NOSE. LOL. yes, you read that right. It didn’t hurt so I will be doing it on the regs now. On my face, I usually only do my brows and upper lip but Eva opened my nostrils up to a whole new world. LMAO. She’s hilarious too!
I really do recommend her. I called her the Chicago eyebrow wax whisperer. Do it. Now.
PS. $ 25 with tip was how much I spent that day. Awesome price for the great service.
