Slavka and Susie do a great job at a great price. I started going there years ago and have never been disappointed. In fact, I’m going there today.

Sue is the best. Al at Magic Razor cut my hair for 20 years. When he retired I found Sue. I haven’t gone anywhere else.

Whether you sit with Slavia or Suze, you will get friendly, professional service, a cut just as you ask, at a great price. This is an old style barber shop with old waiting chairs, really old posters and fabulously comfortable new barber chairs. You look over Welles Park and based on the day, you can make an appointment or just walk in. Men can get a cut and straight razor final trim for $ 12. Incredible deal.

When I lost my advertising job, during the Great Recession, one of the first things to go was overpriced haircuts. Sure it was nice to get a reminder call about an upcoming appointment, have a head massage, hair shampooed, be served piping hot coffee and listen to great music, but $ 50 plus tip, to trim my thinning ginger locks was too much. Along comes Slavka and I’ve never looked back. Great deal($ 12 plus $ 5 tip), no appointment necessary, no pretension, just the old world charm of original barber shop chairs, straight razors and corny posters, all while overlooking Welles Park. Thanks Slavka

Great spot with some of the most friendly, caring, talented stylists you could hope for. Suze is wonderful and takes her time, real easy and interesting to talk to. I like the liberal use of the powder brush, bottled water, excellent value

Okay, so I show up with no cash, I’m a credit card guy. These ladies took me in, gave me a haircut and told me to pay next time I was in! Any business who is more interested in me than my money gets an auto-5!

I woke up this morning and my 5 year old daughter asked why I have a «hairy neck». Time for a hair cut. I’m glad I found Slavka at the Wells Park Barber Shop. This is a classic shop and Slavka is certainly a skilled professional. When I walked in I asked if the take credit cards and she said not to worry just«pay next week! How often do you hear that? Great place– would definitely recommend.

I’ve been passing this shop for quite a while but finally decided to give it a try today. I was very satisfied with the haircut. The price was right and the two women in the shop were very friendly. The only thing I have to remember on my next visit is to tell them not to use hair spray.

I love this place! I started going to Slavka after my old barber, Jerry, passed. It’s an old school, real deal barbershop and Slavka takes her time and really takes pride in her work. If you are like me and prefer a real babershop to a salon; this is your place.

Suze was previously at a West Loop shop and is now at Wells Park. She was recommended by someone I know from work who always has a great haircut. My short haircut is apparently difficult to get right consistently. I used to be under the impression that it takes a few days after my haircut for my hair to cooperate and style correctly. With Suze’s haircut, everything cooperates immediately and looks great as it grows. I also like that she finishes my cut with a lathered neck shave. Even though I live and work downtown, it’s worth the trip up north for Suze’s expertise.

Slavka is absolutely the best!!! I’ve been coming here for years, even after I’ve moved out if Chicago. After moving I tried a few different barber shops that were closer to me and forget it, hands down its worth the drive to see her. Especially because she uses a straight razor which is very hard to find. She takes her time and makes sure she gets the job done right, I prefer quality over speed any day, and the price is very reasonable. I can’t say enough good things about her. She is Serbian and has a bit of an accent but she loves to chat and is super nice. Definitely the true meaning of an old school real deal haircut.

I’ve been looking for a good barbershop ever since I left west town. The first visit was fantastic with Slava. Today I went in and my old barber Suze(fromerly a west loop barber) was there! She is a great addition to the shop and is reason enough to stop in. If you want a no frills, straight forward shop with great quality haircuts at an insanely good price – this place is for you.

A great haircut at a fair price. The waits are typically short and the cuts are perfect.

Quite a barber experience… I was heading to Las Vegas and hoping to not have a head full of hair while in the 110 degree weather. My sister is a sylist and normally cuts my hair, but I wouldn’t see her before the trip. Eeks, decision time. So I ask myself: Go to the sweet Mexican lady at Mimi’s Unisex on Montrose who talks my ear off while I practice my Spanish and it costs $ 15, or try out the highly Unilocal-rated Wells Park Barber Shop for $ 12 with little to go off of. I obviously chose the latter. While on a phone call with my mom I told her I had to go because I was making a trip to the barbershop. She said, «Oh well be attentive because they usually just cut one style.» My response, «Ah ma, I’ll be fine. Hair just grows back…» Um I don’t think I have ever told my mom she was wrong(maybe when I was a bratty teenager), but she was right once again… The owner and primary Serbian barberess, Slavka, was absolutely lovely. She was a talker, too(yet still $ 3 cheaper than Mimi’s). A few conversations to share: –Since I’m a nursing student, I must know what is best. What foods to avoid(hamburgers) and what foods to eat more of(soups, vegetables). That darn atherosclerosis and heart disease seem to be getting everyone these days. –I must appreciate and respect my German heritage. After all, all the Nazi history is over with. My last name is unique and should give me pride in my family’s history. True story. –If you love to gamble and play the slots, continue talking. This is easily Slavka’s and her customers’ favorite topics and hobbies. I did love all the attention I got being a «young fella» in the barbershop. Slavka took her time cutting away, as the warm trimmer blew puffs of air timid air on me. By the end, she easily spent more than 45 minutes on my head, unlike in those quick turn-over chains. Plus they use a straight-edge knife to trim the sideburns and neck with warm, fluffy cream. My hair now looks like my Grandpa Koenig’s(except for the white color) with a wave in front towards one side instead of my normal unicorn doo. The Welles Street Barber slogan: «If you’re satisfied, tell others – if not tell us.» I eventually told her more how I wanted it. Slavka fixed it up two more times until I was content. Before I left she stated, if I didn’t like how she cut it, then I probably just wouldn’t return. Straight forward and to the point, now that’s respecting the European culture and heritage. A few things to note if you’re up for the experience: –Appointments only accepts Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays. –All cuts are $ 12 –If you’re not a fan of the straight-edge razor, just say so

I love this place. I’m picky about my hair but the Serbian lady who owns the place does a phenomenal job. I always give really generous tip as the price is so low($ 12). This is not at all a sign of quality as she does an extremely professional job and does not rush the details. Highly recommended(even if it means that I’ll have to wait more going forward :))
