There aren’t many true butchers left these days, and far too often many people buy overpriced and lower quality products at local mega mart grocery stores.
Western Meat has some of the freshest pork (and chicken and beef products) that you can find anywhere in Chicago. The owners family also own a slaughterhouse, and sometimes some of the pork is literally a day old. It doesn’t get fresher than that. Also, the pork comes from a farm in Indiana, so it’s all locally sourced. The best part? It’s ¹⁄₃ of the price of anything you’ll find at Mariano’s or Jewel! It’s so cheap it’s crazy.
The service here is impeccable too. Linda and the rest of the crew will do anything to keep their customers happy. Keep in mind that it’s a full service butcher, they’ll cut off and butcher the meat however you want and they know exactly what they’re doing.
Western Meat market is truly a hidden gem, that’s provided good quality fresh local meat for years to happy customers.

This place is a hidden gem in the neighborhood. I don’t know why they don’t have a bigger internet presence or advertise more, but this is a great spot to get some quality meat. I found the staff to be very helpful, and they were glad to answer any questions I had. I bought some rib-​eyes that they cut to order for me, so I got exactly the thickness that I wanted, and the prices here are EXTREMELY reasonable. Especially given the quality of the product. If I had one criticism of the place, it is that there isn’t necessarily the variety (For example lamb, which they can order for you, but don’t have on hand) that you might get at Whole Foods or Mariano’s butcher counter, but the selection is still solid, good quality, and reasonably priced. Especially if you love pork, this place has every part of the pig you could possibly want.

This is a wonderful spot with fresh meats and wonderful people working there. I have been visiting this market for 20 years and always have been happy with their products. I have moved out of the area and I travel annually to pick up my Christmas feast! Thanks Western Meat Market!

I love this market! It’s always stocked with anything I could ever need. It’s very clean and the prices are fair. Linda (she’s the best!) has helped me prepare for family functions for almost a year now. Anything I cook from here is a hit! Seriously — even their BBQ sauce is awesome. Their bacon is best I’ve ever cooked. That alone is worth the trip!

Great meat. Great prices. Great staff. What more could you ask for from a meat market? This place is by far the best meat market I’ve ever gone to.
You may not notice this place while passing down Western Ave. given its hand painted sign and inconspicuous location next to an antique store and a barbershop, but when you find this place you will be glad you did. Linda is the incredibly jovial lady behind the counter who will greet you with such enthusiasm upon entrance, as if it were some kind of homecoming. She’s some kinda wonderful. Linda, Mike, Manuel or anyone behind the counter will field any and all questions about meat (history of meat cuts, kinds of sausage encasings, etc) and can special order anything for you that you don’t see. They can talk to you about current events, rejoice in your success, and give you a shoulder to cry on. This staff is a team of genuine characters that make buying meat a great experience.
The prices are great, and the quality is very high in quality. They work directly with a local farm/​slaughterhouse and everything is fresh.
I would recommend this place to anyone… forever man (or woman!).

If you like quality, well-​priced meats from a friendly, knowledgable butcher, this is your place. It may look a little seedy from the outside, but don’t let it deter you, this place probably has what you’re looking for.
While they didn’t have the exact cut of meat I was looking for, I got plenty of great suggestions and a GREAT deal to boot!
