i think i had my first «derby gay» experience on that bus in 2008… i’m not sure which party bus captain i made out with… but maybe thats why i went to try outs! (and passed btw… lol) oh the roller derby…

I wanted to update this review because I’ve had a chance to get to know the Maggie’s and they are fantastic women. Getting to know them has just reinforced my opinion that they were too good for that bus. They are a couple of nice, talented, smart, funny, and fabulous women. :)

This 8 dollar bus ride is definitely not worth it. Let me explain:
The ride to Cicero isn’t too bad. People are drinking on the bus, talking smack, and having a good time. From prior experiences, the ride is over-​booked, so people have to stand in the isles. The bus driver always takes Lake Street to the expressway, which is one of the worst pot-​hole-​laden streets in the city. This means that you will have booty and knee caps and hip-​checks in your face for about a quarter of the ride. When you arrive at the venue, all is well…
until you need a ride back. At this point, Maggie² are drunk and obnoxious. They look haggard to begin with: Their clothes wet from beer slopped all over them, their hair full of cheese dip and sweat… pretty disgusting. Now I’m a dude, and I like «punk» gals in general… but these girls are just hired hookers for the Windy City Rollers. The whole ride back to Cobra Lounge, they stuck their dirty twats in peoples faces, men and women alike. Not much was being said, they would just climb up on a seat and that lucky guy or girl got a face full of nastiness. It just looked like the girls were strung out on heroine and looking for attention. For me personally, it was disgusting and over-​played. This kind of stuff happens at bars all the time, but to be force-​fed a heaping plate of smelly tuna is not my idea of fun. I sat in the back of the bus with my girlfriend, and I was just happy the whores didn’t make it to us.

The Party Bus is an event itself. What is sport anyway without a little tailgating, and what better place to tailgate then at The Cobra Lounge and on a yellow school bus? When you show up to The Cobra Lounge in the afternoon, its a safe bet that each person walking through the door is there for The Windy City Rollers. Each trip is filled with more and more first time derby goers and veterans alike. The party bus is literally like a welcome wagon. There is most definitely a community at The Cobra Lounge and on board The Party Bus. With each bout more and more familiar welcoming faces. The constant are Maggies (2) squared. The two Maggie’s are your ambassadors and captains of The Party Bus. Like magic they make the ride to The Cicero Stadium an adventure. Of course there is a good deal of «social lubricant» involved and you should bring a sense of self deprecation, with that said, you are guaranteed to have a blast, meet some great people and learn a great deal about Roller Derby. There are concessions at the stadium and atm machine at a gas station just a couple blocks from the stadium, just in case. Make sure you pace yourself so you can make it back to The Cobra Lounge for the after party. Where there is also food (if needed) more libations and good times to be had. You can meet and learn even more about the great people and of course many of the derby girls themselves that make it all happen. The only thing tougher than the girls themselves is trying to pick one team to support. It’s really an all around great bunch of great people that all work very hard and can also play hard at times. The Party Bus is a great place to lower the barriers if you are not familiar with Roller Derby and have a great, at times wild adventure along the way. It might get loud, it may even get a bit darn right «debaucherous» at times, but you will definitely have a fun, entertaining and safe ride from The Cobra Lounge to Cicero Stadium; the home of The Windy City Rollers, great people, great fun and great Roller Derby action!

Oh Windy City Rollers’ Bus, how you entertained me so on a lovely Sunday afternoon. I’ll never look at a yellow school bus the same.
The minute you step on your eyes gaze over all the beer holding, booty bouncing, ready to party, child like adults. And let me say – keep the kids out of this school bus adventure. It is definitely rated «R».
I would have to say Maggie, the read headed one, is worth a thousand words. She takes dancing to a whole new level. Up and down the bus, teasing both men and women, all while calling out to the people, «Are you ready motherf***ers to party? Get your DRINK on!» I loved it. I couldn’t get enough. And I really wanted to know – how do you get this job? She ROCKS!
All I know is – if you are going to the Derby, get yourself a ticket for the bus ride there. With it only being $ 8…who could resist?

So for $ 8 bucks you can take a bus that takes you from The Cobra Lounge to the Cicero Stadium to city some kick ass flat track roller derby. This part of my evening was so entertaining, I felt it needed it’s own review. Not only is this a really cheap way to go to the bout, it also is a pretty darn fun way, though if there are kids, I wouldn’t take them this way, this is more fun for the adults and those adults who can laugh at themselves. You wait at the Lounge until two girls enter, they will be your entertainment for the bus ride. They both are named Maggie and there for call themselves Maggie squared. They take your money, mark your hand and you can get on the bus, with a beer or drink in hand. Pretty kick ass. Now they may be a little drunk, they may be a little crass, but these girls are certainly quick witted entertainment. Not only do you get the quality entertainment on the way to the game and back, but you will certainly see them at the bout selling various merchandise, asking for beers and duct taping nipples. Oh and if you’re really a little crazy, they may play a game on top of bus seats on the way home. If you are a guy and you play, pray that you have long legs and are lucky. You do not want to lose and you don’t want to miss this bus, it is one hell of a cheap good time.
