I have been going to Elle for my haircuts for years now and she never fails to do an amazing job. I spent a good ten straight years of my life buzzing my own head because I didn’t see the value in paying for a sub par haircut like I was accustomed to doing. After a decade of the same old bald head I decided it was time to change things up a bit and I couldn’t be happier. Over the years Elle has done an increasingly excellent job of knowing exactly what I want when I sit in her chair, to the point I now barely even have to give any input for her to know exactly what to do. I cannot recommend her enough and will continue to see her whenever I need a haircut until the day she retires.
The salon itself is at an extremely convenient location for me so I can walk over during breaks in my day and not have to wait until after work or take a big break to get a hair cut. The staff is very friendly and courteous, the salon is clean and comfortable, and going there is an overall very enjoyable experience. If you live or work in the Chicago area I HIGHLY recommend visiting Elle at Zazu Salon whenever you are in need of a haircut.

I have been getting my hair cut at Zazu for several years now. The hair stylists always did a very good with my hair. Earlier, Kat cut my hair. She did a very good with the hair cut and style. She made my hair look so good.

Not only was Kat very understanding and non-​judgmental, but she knew exactly what I needed for a great cut. She took my love for hats and ponytails into consideration too. In the end, she gave me a beautiful cut and styled it perfectly for my personality. Thanks again Kat. Bonus: she loves hockey and so the conversation was fun and spirited.

Get a haircut with Kat and you cannot go wrong! I told her I was open to suggestions on style and right away she told me what she would suggest based on my lifestyle, hair type, and face shape… also why she thought that cut would work for me. She was right! I typically don’t like how stylists do my hair, but she nailed my personality and style perfectly.
Added bonus; she is a great conversationalist and really puts you at ease.
I will definitely be returning to her for my next haircut.

I now got to Zazu and zazu only after having Elle cut my hair! She did an amazing job. I was skeptical at first as I use to get my haircut at good ol’ barber shops but Elle really transformed my hair into something I never imagined. I now let her do «whatever she wants» every time I walk in because I know I’ll come out looking like a fine young stud! All the girls there are so nice as well! Recommended highly for high quality hair in Chicago

Just moved to Chicago and trying to get back into my groove of go to places. I was super lucky to find this gem on my first try. The staff has been great, all very friendly. I had to switch stylists after my first try because she went on maternity leave. But both girls were great! I am sticking with Eunice. I am sure I spelled her name wrong though! She is super sweet and did a great job with my color and cut. Also one of the best shampoo experiences ever. I never felt rushed, and I have a lot of hair so you can definitely get tired cutting/​coloring and drying my hair. Priced on the higher end of cuts/​colors but worth it.

Oh Em Gee! I absolutely am in love with TERRI! I came from Arizona and landed with 2 hours to spare before a rehearsal dinner for my fiancé’s best friends wedding! I saw the salon, ran up the stairs and pleaded my case that I needed a quick up do and voila! Beautiful top bun, next day got a hair cut, amazing, and next day got another up do!!! I will always come here when I’m in Chicago!

I was in town on 8÷25÷15 visiting my daughter from San Diego and had an absolutely fabulous experience with a stylist «Gianna» who is no doubt one of the best I’ve ever trusted my hair with! She did an over the top wonderful job with highlights and cut! If I lived in Chicago, Gianna would be my new go-​to stylist no doubt!!! Thanks Gianna!!!

I came in with high expectations from two good friends, Claudia and Juliana, who go there fairly often. However, I had a appointment with Maribel to cover my whole hair with one color. I understand the work is not very complex at all like getting highlights… But come on… Her assistant (very sweet by way) was the one in charge of my hair during the whole process and Maribel would stop by once in a while to take a look at my hair. And to make things worse, they charged the same price as if Maribel was fully in charge of my hair: $ 95 to cover my whole hair by an assistant. For instance, think about going to a doctor to get a surgery and her assistant is the one doing the procedure. It makes no sense! I understand we are not talking about saving lives… But let’s be professional! Bad business if you ask me. Do not recommend this salon.
On the other hand, the front desk lady was welcoming.

I had a great experience here with Gianna! She gave me an excellent blowout and on point product recommendations. She taught me how to use the products that she recommended and I purchased four of them from Kerastase and oribe and my hair has never looked better. Thank you!

But really…
I absolutely loved every part of my experience at Zazu at the Chicago location! I was a bit lost after having a best friend/​stylist/​salon owner move away. But 13 years in her chair, had definitely left me with some high expectations. Those were met and exceeded by this single experience with TJ and Zazu Chicago. I was referred to her for a color correction (I had a not-​so-​pleasant experience at another salon). Upon arrival, I was greeted by TJ and the salon owner! We exchanged introductions, casual conversation and then TJ led me to her chair for an in-​depth consultation, outlining my previous colors, cuts, products used and expectations from this visit. She nailed it completely! Gave me the most fabulous color of my life and a super sexy cut and style. Aside from feeling fabulous at the conclusion of my appointment, throughout the visit, I felt completely pampered and she was just a super cool, laid back classy girl. I vowed to return to her but my life had other plans and I ended up moving to Maui two months after that appointment. Chicago will always be my home and as July approaches, I plan to spend it in Chicago (coming in for my sister’s wedding) and making my follow-​up appointment with TJ as I write this. The islands leave a bit to be desired in terms of Chicago-​comparable services and medical care and I am adding TJ to my semi-​annually mandatory Chicago appointments (alongside visits to my doctor, Comisky Park, Public House Tuesday nights and Alfredo at Piccolo Sogno) #priorities

I was fortunate to meet Kat where I work and mentioned that I wanted to do a balayage treatment and a cut. She enthusiastically told me what she could do to my hair and I booked my appointment shortly after.
I could not be happier with my hair! The color and cut is exactly what I was looking for and more. Kat is super friendly and easy going. The salon is super cute inside as well. I finally found a stylist in the city that i’m looking forward to going back to! Thanks Kat!

I’m very sad to write this review. I came in with high expectations from all the good reviews. However, I ended up walking out of the salon feeling very sad, that I almost wanna cry, coz I look like at the age of 58 instead of 24. I asked the girl to do a big loose curl at the bottom of my hair (the natural feel), and then showed her a picture of what I wanted. The result was very rigid slutty curls. The stylist was doing identical curls from ONE direction, and they look like cut and pasted!
Even I can do better curls than she did. Overall, very disappointed.
However, the receptionist seems friendly and nice, making me feel even worse writing this review!

The place is super nice; I love their location. Their customer service is on point as well. As soon as I walked in for my appointment, they offered me water, coffee, and tea.
My appointment was with Lynnet and she was phenomenal! She does exactly what you want. When cutting my hair, she basically walked me through it, she would pause and ask how short I wanted my layers to be, etc. Same when she was dying my hair for the bayalage. Girl’s got skill, seriously. She should be a Senior stylist.

For YEARS I’ve gone to salons trying to achieve the perfect blonde color in my hair and nobody could ever do it! Finally, I made an appointment at ZaZu and am more than pleased. Not only was the staff friendly and courteous Ronnie got my hair to the EXACT color I’ve wanted for years. I will definitely be going back and recommending her to all of my friends!
So often I left salons in tears from a brassy color blonde or uneven streaks. She was able to attain this beautifully blended ashy-​cool tone blonde that looks gorgeous!

I woke up one morning and decided I wanted to cut 7 inches of my hair off. Despite having grown it out for about six years, my impulsive nature had gotten the best of me and within three hours of thinking while at work, I decided to go for it.
As soon as I got out, I started calling around. Every place I called in the neighborhood didn’t have any availability for a drastic cut and color. When I called Zazu, however, they were able to fit me in right away, despite being busy and in the middle of a blow out party (not as dirty as it sounds, sorry dudes). When I arrived, Terri was already standing at the counter waiting for me.
She gave me the haircut I wanted and more. I honestly couldn’t believe how good it turned out. I had avoided getting my hair professionally cut for ten years, always cutting it myself, including my own blunt bangs. But Terri completely nailed it. I know I seriously don’t need to go anywhere else ever again. Go see Terri, I’m not kidding you. That home girl does not mess around!

My experience at this salon couldn’t have been better! I lucked out with street parking on State on this gorgeous Sunday afternoon and walked over to the salon. The vibe was really positive… Airy and well lit, yet cozy and smelled so nice! (I found out that they have a scent diffuser that smelled of green tea. very refreshing and I wish I could’ve bought the same scent to bring home).
The staff was very warm and my stylist Fadia was so nice! We had a consult about the color I wanted to use for my partial highlights (something summery… warm and subtle) and decided to place the highlights a little further down the hair (not near the roots) to make it look more natural and blended in. For the haircut, I wanted to take about three inches off in length, and said that she could put bangs in if she wanted to (she puts some that were angled to the side).
The color processing was really easy and she used a gloss to enhance the shine and I think boost the color that she did put in. She trimmed my hair, blew dried it and then went back in to do any touch ups. The color and cut looked great! And then she showed me how to put some soft curls in my hair using a ceramic curling iron and that really showcased the highlights (she gave me a great tip to place the curling iron away from the mirror and I watched her technique… hopefully I can duplicate it at home!) I was excited because I got compliments all day after I left and while stopping by Sally Beauty Supply, a girl asked how I got the curls in my hair and I was able to share the tip I learned! Happy to pay it forward!
