Zips Hand Car Wash

I was asked several times by their employees to rate them on Unilocal.Careful what you wish for.
I pulled in behind two other cars on a Friday afternoon. There was very little service, no one greeted me or asked me what I wanted. One of the workers started hosing my car down before I even rolled up my windows! Water didn’t get in the car though so no harm no foul I guess.
Wash took average time.
Waiting area is spartan at best.
Gruff cashier.
Even though I saw them cleaning the interior, once I got in to the car and drove off I noticed it was still dirty.
The people actually cleaning the cars were nice when handing me back my keys — expected but pleasant.
For $ 18 it’s not highway robbery or anything but there are other places that do a better job. I’d bet their lines are just longer.

My car was dirty. As in, turn-​your-​head-​when-​you-​hand-​over-​the-​keys dirty. Like, hope-I-don’t-run-into-the-employees-again dirty.
I went in for the early-​bird special, and it was $ 9.95 for a hand wash (with Armor All) and inside clean, with floor mats done too.
Was it perfect? No, but again, I hadn’t washed the old dog in maybe 3 years. It’s great value — and quick, too.
If you get there before 11 (really 10:50 as they start cutting off early bird then), it’s totally worth it. Give the guys a few bucks tip as well. You’ll be glad.

I’m done with this place. I have been here a few times for a car wash. I’ve done both early bird and regular price. The owner/​attendant is a total @SS. He has no people skills, no customer service whatsoever, nor does he even greet a customer or thank them for their patronage.
Today, he goes to ring me up and asks, «armor all» and I say no. He then rolls his eyes and walks off. I ask if there’s a problem. He said, «you should have let me know when you drove in you didn’t want armor all.» I ask sarcastically, «Isn’t that optional?» He said, «Yeah but I assumed you’d be getting it or you would have told me»
I told him I don’t work in his establishment and didn’t see a sign indicating that. His rebuttal, «Any car wash I’ve work at, it’s that way.»
Again, I told him I don’t work at his establishment and I never worked at a car wash or had them assume I’d be adding optional services without asking first.
It’s too bad, because the place is local, the employees work well and are generally pretty quick too. Hopefully he gets fired if he just works there, or sells the biz if it’s his. I guess I’ll drive a few blocks down to one of the other hand car washes in the area… no loss for me.

It never feels good when you see a sign for something like Early Bird Special, and then you pay full price. It seems it is just for small cars, and if you have any other type of car, you pay full price. I could see paying more than $ 7.95, but seriously — give me something or add some fine print. I paid $ 18 for my x5. They didn’t even do a very good job. They were ready to dry my car when I pointed to the black line across the side that rubbed off with my finger. That was the main reason I went there. I asked the kid at the cash register why SUVs were not discounted and he didn’t answer, and he said he would tell someone. I guess he meant some other day as he didn’t move. Won’t be going back.

19 minutes in and out for the early bird special… and 8 bucks.
Are you serious?! For a hand car wash? I felt guilty paying that little. You pay more for Citgo’s Super Sweet «Touchless» Full Service Time Warp Wash… and your car doesn’t even get clean.
These guys are great. Before 11AM, $ 8 gets my car shiny… and for whatever reason, and whatever they do to it, it stays shiny for longer than most other places I’ve taken it to.
They dry everything — all the jams, crevices, wheel spokes, mirrors. I don’t care if they miss something. Honestly, for 8 bucks they can. I’m not gonna hate on that. But they never do, so when they’re done I make it an even $ 15 with «propina.»
I almost took a star off for the weird owner/​manager dude. Something doesn’t rub me right, but he’s never given me cause so I’ll keep it a 5-​star-​er.
I’m going to cruise the Viagra Triangle now in my fancy-​shmancy new car.
Except I don’t need Viagra.
And I’m not the Ferrari Guy.
And I’m cool.

Zips isn’t overly expensive, and does a good job for the price. For a full wash outside and a vacuum and window cleaning on the inside, I pay 18 bucks. They’re fairly quick, too… about 20 minutes start to finish. And there’s hardly ever a wait.
It’s definitely no frills, but I don’t really need a Beverly Willshire-​experience to get my car washed.
