I was a loyal customer until one day I had a conversation with one of the sons of the family who owns and runs the place.
Up until that point, things were great. A bit overpriced, but tolerable.
We got to talking politics and he asked where I was from. «Here», I said. «Well, Oklahoma, actually by way of St Louis. My family is German and Native American». «No, you aren’t» he said. I responded in TsaLaGI (Cherokee) and in Lakota that yes, I was in fact, a living breathing Indian man. «No», he said, «you don’t look like it to me». I informed him politely that my war pony was in the shop and that I was on my way to pick up my headdress from the dry cleaners, but that he could be assured I know precisely who my ancestors are and where we come from.
At that point, I think I just walked out. What do you say to someone so ignorant and intolerant?

I would give zero stars if it was an option,
I walked here with my husband and daughter as it was the closest liquor store to her house. I am 50 and my husband is 56. My daughter is 20. After we spent about 5 minutes deciding which bottle of chardonnay to buy, the guy asked (rudely, I might add) for my daughter’s ID. We told him she was 20, and that we were her parents. He abruptly set the wine aside and told us to leave. We said it was for us, not her, but he said we had to wait at least a day before we could come back. To add insult to injury, I realized (when we went to Safeway and successfully bought a bottle of wine) that he was trying to charge us $ 23 for a bottle that cost $ 10 at Safeway… His loss, but I encouraged my daughter to «vote with her dollars» and not patronize this store, even after she turns 21. I hope she will spread the word. I get it if they are trying to avoid selling booze to young people who are then giving/​selling it to minors, but I AM 50! And he was unnecessarily rude about it. How hard would it have been to ask her age when we walked in?

If possible, I wouldn’t even give this place a 1 star! HORRIBLE service. VERY VERY VERY rude people. I will NEVER, I repeat, NEVER go here again! He was a total racist and sexist! He wouldn’t sell me alcohol because I wasn’t with my boyfriend! This is 2012 for christ’s sake!
