Enloe Medical Center

I hate sitting and waiting. I hate feeling sick, and I really hate feeling helpless.
Doctor offices and hospitals are not happy places for me. With that said;
In my opinion Enloe does an outstanding job performing in a very difficult work environment.
As a business owner, I truly appreciate how difficult a task it must be to operate a business with so many moving parts with such dire consequences if done poorly.
Two of my daughters were born in the old wing. I was very impressed with the caring staff and the excellent communication pre and post each birth.
Same can be said for my spinal surgery a few years back.
And same again for the surgery to fix my deviated septum this spring.
Last week I had terrible abdominal pain and after 4 days of doctors appointments and ultra sound tests at my local «doc in a box» I had no answers and increasing pain.
Becoming frustrated and scared with no answers. In desperation I went to Enloe emergency room on a Friday afternoon. Believe me. I did not eagerly do this…
I was again very impressed; although the ER was packed, I was processed amazingly quickly. I was definitely in a well oiled machine. Vitals taken immediately. Blood drawn (expertly) just in case. They drew just to be repaired… simply amazing.
Within a few hours I was on a bed getting CT scanned AND diagnosed a few hours later. ALL ON A FRIDAY NIGHT!
Not many people would rave about spending 5 hours in the ER. But for me: I am truly grateful that the ER could do the job (after hours) that I could not get done during an entire work week at other businesses.
On another note; as I sat in the waiting room. I watched the staff. I was particularly impressed with the level of efficiency each staff member used. Each was in a hurry. Yet they took the time to speak with the patients slowly and with obvious compassion. And I was very surprised when a patient failed to answer his name being called the nurse walked up and started helping admit him in sign language. Wow!
Outstanding company. Thanks for being my local hospital!

Just gave birth in Enloe’s birthing center. It was a wonderful experience! My nurse Carmen was awesome and so helpful, she answered all my questions and didn’t pressure me to do anything I didn’t want to. My anasteasiologist (?) who gave me my epidural was AMAZING! I didn’t feel the needle or any pain during labor. I had a very calming and relaxing labor and now am a mother to a healthy baby boy!

My son is a freshman at Chico State and had a medical emergency. He was taken by ambulance to the Enloe ER. He was in severe pain, which was later diagnosed as kidney stones. Through his excruciating pain he articulated his symptoms but the ER staff seemed more intent on finding out if he was a drug addict looking for medication. The kidney stones caused him to be nauseous and he vomited on himself and the floor. Instead of getting assistance the hospital worker threw a basin at him and said «he was not going to f-​ing clean that up». Being 400 miles away and finding out that your son spent the night in the ER is bad enough, but knowing he was treated so poorly is heartbreaking.

Great hospital with very skilled physicians, I was in a fatally car crash in 2010. with a eye socket blow out fraction and not that long before could’ve have lost my eye and i was rushed into Enloe and the Doctor who perform surgery on me did a terrific job can’t even tell i was ever in a car crash nor had surgery also same guy who had done surgery on me saved my uncle arm. i had stitches on the lower lash water line and you could hardly see the scar. i spent three days there and i was comfortable all the staff members were all so nice. I’m very thankful for everyone at Enloe Medical Center.

I am one of those people that cannot stand hospitals. They always strike me as scary, germy, and sad. Not the case here! I debated giving birth at Enloe versus having my baby at home with a midwife. In the end I chickened out and decided to go the safe route by using the hospital. I’m very glad I made that choice! Every single staff member I have spoken to had been so nice. The nursing staff here is incredible. The labor and delivery wing is beautiful, up to date, clean and spacious. My husband was concerned we would get ‘processed’ and rushed through our labor and recovery, but that has not been the case here. Our wishes were respected by all. Overall a very positive experience. Definitely recommend Enloe for giving birth.

Enloe is the worst hospital in the world. The EMERGENCY room should get a patient out of the waiting room faster than 3 hours… if you want fast service I recomend doing your own at home medical treatment because this place sucks balls. My father has fluid in his lungs and was called by the ER to come back to take tests and we’ve been in here for 3 hours waiting now. If they take people by importance their priorities suck. Fuck. Enloe.

After being unsuccessfully treated at Feather River Hospital. Re:
I was ignored, treated bad, had a dirty bed. What they gave me made me sicker only to return again 3 times total in 24 hours. There is so much more, but I want to give Enloe credit here. Enloe was a blessing! They treated me until I was better and they treated me with respect unlike Feather River! The nurse Bill & Mary and my doctor Perham, Armin were Awesome. The date I was admitted was 7−30−15. I used to dislike Enloe, but I think they have improved greatly and Feather River has declined extremely! Thank you Enloe for treating me like a human being! You helped me so, so much! I am so grateful!

I’ve had several bad experiences at their emergency room. They are never in a hurry no matter how much pain you are in. You will be sitting there for HOURS. If you start getting upset they will call security on you. My son had abdominal pain we brought him there and sat in waiting room for hours. They finaly saw him and said it was his apendix and admitted him. Instead of operating on him that night they said we had to wait until the next day. Well by the next day it had burst and they had to cut him open to clean it all out. Now he has a huge scar he will have forever. They risked his life by making him wait til the next day. This hospital sucks! Take the extra 20 minutes and drive to the paradise hospital. They wont leave you sitting in their waiting room for hours and hours in pain. I got that advise from a police officer that was called on me by enloes security officers. It was very good advise!

Delivered my baby naturally here. The nurses and staff were so sweet and supportive. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience even with some hurdles. They had essential oils and I was in the tub for a lot of the time. Food was good but having just delivered, no one told us you could order whatever you want until the last day we were there. Dr Wenberg was not a doctor I would recommend to anyone. Horrible bedside manner, cold and impersonal. If you’re going to deliver my baby and be up in my business, at least introduce yourself and she rolled her eyes at my husband who is also in the medical field. Dr Brooks was amazing for postpartum care. Hope he’s still around when I deliver our next. Thankfully I had researched breast feeding a lot before delivery because we were never seen by a lactation consultant but their «baby friendly» attitude was great. The first day, my medication administration was forgotten about for about 12 hours, lacking orders from the OB. Overall, it was a great experience. No hospital visit is going to be perfect.

The staff here is extremely nice. I was surprised that they were super nice. I recall going to other emergency hospitals and the staff usually always look over worked or unhappy. The staff here are extremely chatty and happy. I cut my finger really deep from opening a can. The nurse checked my vitals here and he even put on a band aid to make sure there was enough pressure to clot up the blood. Within minutes I was seen by the doctor. The doctor and the nurses were chatty and happy. I felt like Ive known them for years. I felt right at ease. The doctor put on some skin glue on me since putting stiches was going to be more painful since its close to the bone. Overall… I really thought I was going to be stuck in emergency for hours. It took at least only an hour to patch me up. Enloe Medical Center is the best.

I recently had a 7 day stay at Enloe ~~ I was in Room 2281 for 5 days and the nurse EMILY was fantastic (IF only all the nurses at Enloe were cloned like she was) ~~ she was pleasant and gave me dignity and let me know what was happening ~~ then they moved me to Room 4405 and the hell began… one night at 11:00pm AFTER scanning me wristband the nurse informs me that she is changing my IV and giving me medicine and I questioned this as the doctor had seen be hours before and neer mentioned a changed and she said it was doctor’s orders… scanned my wristband again and went to the computer and all of a sudden I hear oh shit… she was in the WRONG room and almost gave me somebody else’s medication (with being their for a failed kidney I wasn’t feeling very confident in their care)…2 nurses stand out from Room 4405 and NOT for the good… Ashley and I believe the other one was Heidi (?) (short, long hair, older woman, heavy build… they were RUDE beyond belief and treated me like I was a piece of crap that was a bother to them to have to be in my room… I might add when some of my coworkers & friends stopped to see me they overheard the nurses talking about the doctor (because the doctor had wanted to know why his orders weren’t being followed) and they heard the nurses talk VERY disrespectfully about the doctor… I have instructed my husband that if I have to go back to a hospital then do not take me anywhere near Enloe… the nurses should have a course in how to treat a patient and by the way when I was in Room 2281 I had a male nurse who really needs to know how to treat people… do NOT call me dear, sweet thing, etc. I have a name either use it or don’t speak to me at all… once I was able to get up and walk I had no problem in taking my time walking the floor, but now with this male nurse, he insisted on walking behind me HOLDING my hospital gown shut and speaking to me the whole way, after that I refused to walk when he was on duty… HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE that didn’t need to be that way

I had my daughter at the new birth area. Very clean and had individual rooms. AWESOME!!! Staff were awesome. Very helpful. Beside one nurse. She was nice. But she was too pushy. I was getting annoyed. But overall. It was great. I used the hot tub. They made my husband feel welcome too.

My wife just gave birth to our first child in the new maternity ward. The staff were very helpful at all times. The maternity area is so nice with large private rooms. It was a great experience.

My now dead husband was taken to Enloe when his colon burst. Enloe sent him home with anti-​biotics, and never looked at him, although he was dying. Thank God we took him to Oroville hospital where they assessed the situation and Ambulanced him to UC Davis where he lived for 2 yrs in the burn unit.
Every time I drive by Enloe I want to vomit.

Yesterday, we visited an ill mother in this hospital. We were from out of town and the staff uniformly treated us well. Trying to navigate the jumble of new renovation construction, we were approached by «Joe» from Housekeeping, who, on his own, guided us along a safe path to the temporary front entrance. Other folks were similarly helpful throughout our several hours visit…
Having worked in hospitals in my past life, I served on a signage committee and have to deduct one star in my rating for management’s handling of construction signage and ordinary signage for the hospital.
(1) There should be large, clear signs, directing visitors around construction sites. If it were not for Joe, we would have been walking in the street, a definite traffic hazard. Further, the temporary main entrance should have been designated more obviously. Just getting from the parking garage to the main hospital was a chore, with no clear signage telling visitors whether to move right or left, once arriving on the street. There were plenty of employee badged-​entrances, but none for visitors…
(2) Because the facility, like most medical centers, has added on towers to existing structures, navigating within the nursing floors is confusing. It is literally like a rat’s maze. Even employees have trouble describing how to move from one place to another, although they try their best. Again, signage is key to this problem.
I am too damned old now to be of any use to Enloe, but I wish I could consult with them about how it feels to be lost in the facility.

I had to take a family member in tonight and is was like going to a hospital in the third world. The staff was very nice and the saw us quickly but the room they took us to was scary.
We entered into the new part of the hospital for in-​processing but were taken back into an older potion of the place for treatment. Everything looked dingy and old. There were holes in the walls, peeling wallpaper, dirty and worn looking childrens stickers on the cabinets and trash on the floor. At first you don’t notice the little things but we started taking stock after we found a bloody white hand towel on the counter, folded and rolled up like it was «fresh.» It had a dark red blood stain over 2 inches across right in the middle of it when we unrolled it, plain as day. Then I found bits of medical trash next to the bed. Then a half dozen of Skittles on the floor in the corner. Then a patch of gauze with blood on it in another corner. Do they ever clean these rooms?
While the staff was very nice they didn’t seem concerned with the mess and only apologized for it, they didn’t try to clean it up. We found the bloody towel on the counter before one of the nurses was installing an IV. They had already put their gloves on and grabbed it and threw it in the hazardous waste bin and then DIDN’T change their gloves. They were handling a bloody towel from god knows where with sterile gloves right before putting a needle into my family member and didn’t see a problem with this. No wonder this place has problems with MRSA infections. I walked around the ward a little while we were waiting and it looked the same in every room. Dingy, worn down and messy.
They don’t seem to clean these rooms between patients nor do they seem to know where anything is. After tossing the bloody towel away it took our nurse several minutes of cabinet searching to find another one. When I think of hospitals I want to think of a place that I could eat off the floor without worry. If it was up to me, if I was at Enloe I’d eat outside.

We visited the ER for two horrible incidents involving my 24 year old son in the last year and a half. The staff is amazing. They really care for their patients and the quality of care is outstanding. My son passed away on the second visit and the nurses surrounded me and my family to comfort us and help us cope in those first moments when you can’t believe this is happening.

My grandfather recently had to be at Enloe for a 9 day stay and I am very happy with the care he received. The nurses, CNA’s, therapists, doctors, etc on the 4^th floor treated him with caring, dignity, and respect. At 92, he has had his share of inpatient experiences and this hospital exceeded his expectations. The attention to detail, communication with our family, and overall friendliness made this very difficult situation much easier on everyone. The only issue we had was with the discharge planning and the miscommunication regarding my grandfather’s transfer home. Other than that, we are grateful that a quality hospital is available in Chico.

Took my husband there 6 months ago because his stomach was distended with nausea vomiting and fatigue. Since he’s in his 30’s they treated him as though he was a hypochondriac. Luckily we got another opinion and it turned out he had stage IV colon cancer and is now on hospice. The ER doctor and the nurses were rude and unprofessional chitchatting with each other while tending their patient.

I came here for an outpatient procedure and everything went smoothly. From the moment I checked my car into Valet (YES they have valet which is an awesome perk), to checking into admissions; everyone worked together. The valet guy guided me to the right direction as did the admission lady, the RN’s, and everyone else. I did not feel lost once and everyone was so friendly. I am so happy I came to Enloe to have my surgery, kuddos to this hospital. Everyone was great and you have a great team!
