My favorite local shop! 80% of my backpacking, climbing and mountaineering gear was purchased here not just because they’re local, but because they’ve always been there for me when researching a product left me wanting more. Don’t let the small square footage fool you. They’ve got a ton of stuff packed neatly away in there. I really miss Jake and no one will ever be able to fill his boots, but the rest of the staff have plenty of experience in outdoor sports and always offer great advice with a smile.

This is the best place to get your canpimg supplies. I buy all my merrell shoe here. they always go out of their way to inform and answer you questions. They have the best insoles to make your shoes feel new.

Mountain Sports has a great selection, wonderful staff, and comparable prices to big box stores. The staff is incredibly knowledgable and will give you good advice on the proper equipment to buy. Plus when you shop at there you get a great feeling for supporting local Chico businesses!

I love this place! The customer service is incomparable. Jake is your man if you have any questions about… Well… Just about anything outdoors. It’s a joy to stop in and share stories and get advice. I love to support local businesses an this one is exceedingly deserving of any support I can give them. Their prices are comparable to what you might find at any other store but the knowledge of their merchandise is above par.

You will not be disappointed with this place because it has everything you need and the staffs are extremely friendly, helpful, attentive, and knowledgeable about mountain and outdoor activities and have the best equipment that are updated. Also, you can get your stuffs repaired there, too. I had one of my items being broken off from my backpack and they just fixed it in no time and without a charge.

Saw this place on the way to go eat and was able to purchase the NFS map for Lassen. Good selection of camping gear and reasonable prices.

I like to shop local and have actually purchased some big ticket items just to stay local from them.
One older guy is excellent, but the other staff lacks customer service and the experience a friend had there prompts me to write this.
I sent her to them to rent a back pack. A week before, she is beautifully fitted by the older exp. guy there and told to ask for that pack. She picks up the pack, it is totally different.
We are out packpacking, and she experiences much pain. I let her try on my Deuter, it fits her like a glove. Others in the group are hardcore who with years and 1000’s mles experience can not fit the pack to her, and it is a MAN’s pack. DUH! We all tried it on and yes a Man’s pack and awful.
When she returned the pack, she received ZERO POINT ZERO customer service.

Well, their response was «that’s too bad, you’ll have to try a different one next time.» They didn’t seem to know which one they originally fitted me with either. I won’t be interested in renting from them again let alone purchasing

I’m an outdoor gear junky… love the stuff. Mountain Sports has the best selection of quality gear in Chico. Not quite the selection of an REI, but pretty close. And it must be a great place to work because the staff are always friendly and in a good mood.

Mountain Sports is the place to go if you want quality merchandise. If you are a serious outdoors-​man, then this is the place of sporting goods.
They also have great shirts if you want to look good while you are hiking or even going casual to work.

Mountain Sports hails back to an earlier era in Chico, when local businesses worked with you, respected you as a customer, and provided as much personal service as one could ever expect. Nowadays, they continue that tradition, and it stands out even more when compared with other, newer, sometimes larger outdoor sports stores in the Chico area. Mountain Sports has super friendly employees who are knowledgeable and willing to help educate you so that you can make the best purchase possible. They have a wide variety of gear, and they genuinely care that you choose the right equipment/​clothing and enjoy the heck out of it. Great service, great choices, very cool vibe. I’ve purchased everything from water bottles to climbing gear, from books to sleeping bags here, and I’ve never, ever been disappointed. This store rocks!

These guys are extremely friendly and helpful. I went in asking to buy a stabilizing strap for my messenger bag, hoping to keep it under ten bucks. They actually MADE me one for about 2.50. Of course I went back to them to buy a Klean Kanteen as a Khristmas present. About a week and a half ago I went in to buy a base layer and got not only the same friendly help that I’ve come to love about this place, but the guy who made my strap recognized it, asked me how it was, and we discussed and implemented improvements.
The fact that they were willing to spend a grand total of about 25 minutes with me for what amounted to less than five dollars in purchases speaks volumes. I would almost consider taking up hiking just to have reason to buy from that business.

friendly, accomodating, great selection and willing to make a change to keep the customer happy. What Sports LTD didn’t do for me, Mountain Sports did and they just revalued themselves im my book.
they sold me two new klean kanteens with the lids I wanted without being rude or condenscending which was the problem I had at Sports LTD. It’s a $ 2 lid and S.L. wouldn’t work with me whereas MS did. Thank you.
