Established in 2011.

Brett Johnsen and his wife Jennifer Johnsen opened The Ascent Music Academy in 2011. After 10+ years of teaching private music lessons Brett and Jen realized they have a lot to offer to the Chico community by opening an Academy. Together Brett and Jen are committed to improving lives and building community through music.

Business Owner

Brett Johnsen, a father of 5 children ranging in age from 9 to 18 years old has over 10 years of music teaching experience backed up by:

27 years playing and performing guitar, 11 years playing and performing drums. 15 years playing and performing Bass.

Brett has a high quality blend of traditional and alternative teaching styles. His ability to play multiple instruments allows him to «jam» with his students to provide them with real life experience of playing in a band.

From Beginner to Advanced, Brett produces real working musicians able to; understand theory, read TAB, read music, perform at a professional level, Write original songs, and play multiple instruments.

Brett is the founder of the band Audiotherapy, 2009 Chico Area Music Award (Cammie) Nominee and Local Chico Legends.

Brett also, has extensive stage management experience having been the booking and stage manager for two of norcal’s premier outdoor multi stage festivals.
