I was born in Chillicothe, and lived there most of my life. I recently shopped Book World when visiting family. I know this area has been hard hit for a long time, and it especially has taken a toll on the downtown. I always depended on Book World to have a great selection of used books at reasonable prices. I know there was a fire a few years back that obviously cut into the book selection, but I really, really found it lacking. I took in used books on two different occasions. The second time, I was waited on by someone else who gave me much less credit than on the first time. I was literally shocked because I had many more books the second time and expected to have at least enough to cover my new purchases. None were in bad shape, but the ones I’d given before were pristine — some almost new, so maybe that was why. Regardless, I should have asked for my books back. Some of them were Stephen King books from my husband’s collection that he said were probably pretty valuable. The mystery and horror section was so lacking that I couldn’t even find him another book to read. I’ll stick to buying books on eBay from now on. Even with shipping costs, the prices are better.

I’m shocked– shocked!- that no one has reviewed this yet. Particularly that I haven’t, since I’ve been going there for years… A nice little bookshop in downtown Chillicothe, surrounded by other interesting shops(check out the History Store and Lloyd’s Sweet Shoppe.) There’s a good local section up front, and plenty of other subject areas. Prices are reasonable, staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and there’s parking right outside.
