When I was a kid, I remember visiting Hirsch’s actual apple orchard/farm and picking apples right off the tree. This little shop is kind of like a farmer’s market that features their apples as well as their other fruits and vegetables. They also have meats from a local farm. They have a wide variety of apples here and they are pretty good(some for eating standalone and some to be used more for baking). They also have a selection of fruit butters including apple butter and peach butter. Fruit butters are really a thick fruit jam and not a fruit-flavored butter(like you see at the BBQ chain Lucille’s). Apple cider is also one of their specialties and they sell it at this shop as well. Prices for the fruits and vegetables were good though some of the meat prices(from a local farm supplier) were a little bit pricey(and may even be pricey by Los Angeles standards). Service was good. This is a nice little fruit and vegetable shop with produce from a farm that has been around for a long time(since 1890) and has deep roots within the community(one of the Hirsch family members is a skilled basketball player who taught me calculus). If you are passing through this area and are looking for something sweet but also local, Hirsch’s Fruit Farm is worth a visit. The parking lot is small but free.
