Fantastic chocolates, great jelly beans, friendly staff, and they do so much good for the community. This is another MV institution that is a must visit when you are here. However, the parking is really bad, the lines long, and the space inside very cramped. It is worth the wait despite all of this.

This place is amazing. They hire people with developmental disabilities. Donate money back into the community. The quality of their chocolates is superlatives. This spot is not going to change. Their philosophy is not going to change. The parking lot is not getting bigger. A bar code scanner is not going to replace their older cash register. Their commitment to the community is rock solid and thankfully not changing If you want to whine about something you can’t understand buy your mediocre chocolate from a chain store tourist trap.

This place has ruined all other chocolates for me-so smooth and creamy! Nice variety to choose from but my favorites are the ones with grapenut-oh and they now offer dipped strawberries! To die for!!! A must go even though they have limited hours.

I’m not jumping on the Five-Star bandwagon for this place. Parking is a nightmare, the staff are generally rude and condescending, and the chocolates, while very good, aren’t worth the aggravation. As you pull in, the owners reserve most of the parking for themselves, even though they’re not using it. It leaves you forced to play cat & mouse games with incoming cars cutting you off, blocking you out, trying to get one of the very few parking places. A one-car-wide driveway doesn’t help. After that pleasant experience, you wait in line on the porch, as the place is so tiny they can only fit in a few people at a time. Curiously, they sell the chocolates in pre-determined box sizes, but price them by the pound. For instance, you can request a small ¼ pound box of your selected chocolates, with a price already on it… but when you select your chocolates and they load up the box, it might go over ¼ pound, and then they charge you for the overage. Really? Just sell by the pound or sell by the box. It’s a small store’s version of up-selling, but you don’t know you’re going to be charged. While the selection and quality of chocolate treats was good, I can’t honestly say it was worth the overall hassle of the parking, the line, the rude service, etc. But if it’s a cloudy day and you’ve nothing else to do, go for it.

Leave now! This spot is amazing. Socially giving back to the community and having some of the best chocolate on the planet. We’ll worth the line and schlep. Hours are quirky so check before you go.

A great business that helps a great many people and produces some of the best chocolates I’ve ever had. The only downside to CC is that their only open for a few months and then only for a few days each week… oh, and expect a line. Still, you’re not going to find better tasting chocolates anywhere.

Still the very best thing ever. Get the one pound box of milk chocolate with peanut butter($ 18) and prepare for heaven. Beware of the quirky hours(I think they’re closed M, T, and W), and stock up while you’re there.

I cannot say enough good things about the deliciousness of Chilmark Chocolates. Pick anything with your preferred chocolate(dark or milk) with ingredients you like(caramel, cashews, toffee, etc.) and I personally guarantee that your taste buds will thank you. A few things to keep in mind: 1) call ahead to make sure they’ll be open, 2) there will almost certainly be a line, 3) they grudgingly take credit cards, but greatly prefer cash or check(FYI — everything is $ 18 per pound), and 4) if you are going to put in a large order(3+ pounds), call ahead or risk getting major attitude from the owner.

Almond Chocolate Toffee… end of story. This particular candy, I am convinced, is what truly solidified the bond between myself and my boyfriend’s family. Honestly, all of their chocolates are amazing. This isn’t any Russell Stover assorted we are talking about — chocolate dipped dried apricots, fudge, truffles… tasty candies with real flavors. Plus they are made in one of my favorite places on Earth. In fact, stop into their shop and you can see them making the chocolates right on site! You can smell the shop from a mile away. Oh my my my… I need to go buy a ferry ticket.

Lives up to ALL the hype. Best, freshest chocolates I’ve had outside of France, and an excellent selection of dark chocolates. We had no problems parking in their lot, and a very short line, on a July day in the middle of the week when everyone else was probably at a beach. Amazing prices for such high quality.

Chocolates are middling but I hear they support people with disabilities and therefore, in my mind, must be regularly patronized.

This place is amazing. I still don’t understand how their chocolate can be so good. They are saints. Their hours of operation are a mistery to me.

After my gps led us to the wrong address and I pulled into a random driveway and convinced the family renting the huge house that the house next door was some clandestine chocolatier, I eventually found CC. I agree that these are the best chocolates around and are worth the trip up island. Extra points for using solar power.

This place possesses such island star power. It’s David Ortiz hitting a grand slam walk off home run. It’s Meryl Streep. It’s Mick Jagger. This place just has that magic. My family and I love going up island to select our very own box of chocolates and a few more for friends. It looks like a small house and is located just off the road with decent parking– not great in the summer. As you enter, there’s a large case on the left(and a plate of samples!) so when someone asks what you want, you can select your favorites, one at a time, making it a fun treat for kids.(«And one Tashmoo Truffle… no, two!») In the summer, there are often long lines out the door, but it’s worth the wait. The people who work there are all terrific. Many are handicapped and this business has been set up to help them. Every month they select an island nonprofit to sponsor. There’s a basket at the register and you can put your change or a few bills into the basket. The money goes to a good cause. How great is that? Chilmark Chocolates is an island institution. People give boxes to one another for graduation, holidays, birthdays and more. Do call ahead before going up island, though, as you want to be sure they are open on the day you go.

They don’t sell them online, I want more! Chilmark, please have a website. We’re in CA(me, me, me) can’t wait to order your prize winning chocolates.

These are the best chocolates I’ve had in the entire United States. I know, that’s a pretty strong endorsement… but it couldn’t be more true! You can keep your pricey Jacques Torres or Joseph Schmidt confections… those are nice and all, but don’t even come close to the variety and delicious flavor of Chilmark Chocolates! Now, normally I wouldn’t Unilocal too much about my favorite business for fear it would get too busy and no longer have time for me… but that’s not going to happen with Chilmark Chocolates for one simple reason: You have to take a boat to an island to get these chocolates! They don’t ship their chocolates. The price-per-lb. is something ridiculously low like $ 16, they have an endless variety of delicious, creative chocolates, and the vast majority of their employees are developmentally-disabled people who might not otherwise find gainful employment. I believe they might be in someway be associated with Camp Jabberwocky, which is for developmentally-disabled kids, since many of the names of Chilmark Chocolate’s confections are based on the book, «Jabberwocky» by Lewis Carroll. This business hasn’t changed for years, regardless of their success: there’s always a line out the door for their chocolates, but the prices are still so reasonable, the customer service is still good, and the environment feels clean and friendly. If you’re ever on Martha’s Vineyard, check out Chilmark Chocolates… call ahead to find out their hours, though, since they aren’t a 7-days-a-week kind of place… and like many MV businesses, they close for part of the winter. My personal favorites are the Tashmoo Truffles, the dark-chocolate-peanut-butter bars, and the Heavenly Hazelnuts… but there are so many other varieties with nuts, dried fruits, coconut, even grapenuts! This is not a fancy place, but who needs fancy when for $ 8, you can walk out with a box of absolutely divine chocolates?! Gawd, I love this place!!!
