Stay away. Let me repeat myself: Stay away at all costs. I am sorry to say that our experience a few years ago at Sunshine Christian Pre-School and Day Care was not at all pleasant and I would not recommend this facility to anyone. I picked this center, though it was out of the way from both our home and my job. A trusted friend gave it rave reviews and I learned they had a very good record with the Community Licensing Agency(the most serious complaint being that the cots were too close together on a day when the inspector came out.) My daughter had recently come out of a state-based program where the children were constantly learning and engaging in age-appropriate activities such as reading(or being read to), art and interactive play. The first thing I noticed on my daughter’s first day at this center was that they had a television on and there were lots of movies on shelves. I asked the director if they routinely allowed the children to watch TV and she replied that they did not, but in the weeks that followed, I noticed that no matter what time of the day I dropped off or picked up my daughter, the TV was always on. My next concern had to do with hygiene and cleanliness. My daughter would come home several times a week with not just her shoes, but her underpants full of sand(it was summer, so she was frequently in shorts.) I mentioned this to the director several times and asked that they watch her more closely so that her underwear wasn’t getting filled up with sand, but there was not much improvement. The last and final straw for us was when I witnessed an absolutely grave and entirely unacceptable risk to the children. I was coming to pick my daughter up after work and as I entered the foyer both my daughter and another little girl(both were under 4 at the time) were standing in the foyer alone. Between the front door and the big room where the children are, there is a dutch-door that the teachers are supposed to keep secured at all times, so the children cannot get into the foyer. This door was rarely closed during the weeks when my daughter was at the center(even following this incident and after I had made a complaint to the director.) I was in the foyer with my daughter and the other little girl for a good 60 seconds, asking them where their teacher was and calling out to the teacher who was nowhere to be seen. I took both girls by the hand, entered the main room and called out again. Still, there was no response from the teacher. I was in the main room for at least another 15 – 20 seconds before she emerged from the bathroom, plunger in hand, stating that the toilet had been clogged. Now, 80 seconds may not seem like a very long time, but ask yourself this question: How long does it actually take to snatch a child? You might think this is the end of the review and you might be asking yourself«how much worse could this even get», but oh, there is more. The day after this incident occurred I set a meeting with the director and relayed to her all that had happened. I pointed out to her that had I been some opportunistic pervert looking for a kid to snatch, I could have actually picked up 2 for the price of 1 in this instance because both my daughter and the other little girl were unsupervised for well over a minute. Her response was that she had been in this business long enough to know that if someone were going to snatch a child and they were determined to do it, nothing could be done to stop it. … What? Needless to say, I pulled my daughter out of Sunshine Pre-School and never looked back.
