Don’t let the torn down appearance of the building fool you. The ladies in the kitchen are dishing out some serious Mexican food. Their torta Cubana is worth the heart attack it may give you;the burrito de lengua is also a good option. Oh and the customer service(which can make or break a restaurant despite their quality of food) is also pretty motherfucking good.

Great little spot for quick authentic style street tacos that taste great. Easy to get off 101 and jump back on the highway too.

On our way down to home from the Bay we stumbled across this taqueria during a bathroom stop. Reading the reviews, we decided to give it a try. Overall, I really liked it. Service was friendly. Food was good. I had pastor and lengua tacos. Unfortunately we did not have/get any extra salsa or pico de gallo. I did not ask and am not sure if they have any. This made my tacos and Jack’s burrito a little dry. Also, no beer! Aside from this, no complaints.

Most delicious tacos I’ve had in the US. It compares to the amazing street tacos with different salsas and sauces in Mexico. It’s an easy on off the 101N. We will return!

I went in on april 18,2016 around 7 pm. The lady was sweeping as i peeked in. I asked her if it was still open. She said yes and continued to sweep. The lady in the kitchen over heard and turned some lights on in the dining room. I stood right in front of the menu/ordering area for over 5 min for someone to take my order. Nobody asked to take my order or help me. She cared more about sweeping than helping me. I walked out. Will never return. Customer service sucks!

Was in Chualar during lunchtime while driving my work truck and came across this place. Now a regular when in the area and have tried most of the tacos on the menu and a few of the plates, very tasty, never been disappointed, if passing through and hungry skip the fast food joints in Salinas and Gonzales and go to Hidalgo.

First of all I went here because of the reviews I saw here on Unilocal. They were good reviews so I told the wife I want tacos so lets go to Taqueria Hidalgo. When I got to the restaurant mouth watering and all, the first thing i noticed was how dirty it was. There were flies everywhere but I still decided to get my tacos. I had two tacos al pastor and two of tripas. When we went to sit down my chair was falling apart, screws were probably loose. So when we got our food and took the first bite I was disappointed. The al pastor tacos tasted like the meat was marinated in lard. It also had that re cooked taste. The tripas(tripes) were no better. It looked like I ordered tacos of meat paste and they were oily. I must say I won’t be going there anymore because I ended up leaving nauseous of the after taste in my mouth. Good thing I got an horchata drink which was the only good thing. You must be asking what the wife said? Let’s just say she will be picking our next place to eat.

If you’re looking for a gigantic, authentic, cheap, greasy burrito this is your spot. I looked it up on Unilocal and stopped by. Ordered a super carne Asada burrito. Would I go back? maybe

Went here on our drive back from LA to SF. Didn’t want to stop at one of the chain restaurants at the rest stops to decided to give this place a try based on other Unilocal reviews. My girlfriend and I ordered a bunch of tacos which were delicious. They serve them with a side of roasted jalapeño — yum! The place isn’t squeaky clean but the taco however were delicious. Definitely going to stop here again!

This is where the Mexicans eat so you know it’s good. A hole in the wall but the food was really good. I had carne asada tacos, my husband had a cane asada burrito & flan, my son had a quesadilla. Everyone devoured their food and wanted more. My husband is from Mexico and said this was like his grandmothers cooking, very authentic. He wants to come back on our way home from our trip.

I came in here for a burrito and I was not disappointed one bit. The burrito was stuffed with carne asada, rice, beans, lettuce, and sour cream(i said no to salsa). It may sound like any other burrito, but what made it stand out was the actual carne asada. The meat’s seasoning had a little kick that definitely pleased my taste buds. In addition to the awesome burrito, the ladies there were also very friendly. I will be back here whenever I’m in the mood for a burrito again!

Really good quesadilla with carnitas. Great salsa too. Hole in the wall place that is worth a stop if u want authentic Mexican food. Fish tacos were disappointing however. I would return if on the area

We stopped here on our way home from Monterey. I had a 3-star experience but I’m pretty sure this place deserves a 4. I don’t think I ordered the right thing — I got Huevos Rancheros and the sauce tasted off. I also asked for them to be «bien cocinado»(yolks cooked through), and instead I got eggs that were barely cooked at all — runniest yolks ever — which really isn’t my thing. Another thing that wasn’t great was that we had to wait in line twice — once to order, and then again to pay. Not sure if that’s how they always do things but it didn’t make sense to me. On the good side, my guy got a pastor burrito and he was very happy with it. It was large and tasty. The food came up really fast. Other folks appeared to mostly get tacos and burritos and those also looked very good. I just wish they had a salsa bar or that they at least provided salsa with the orders. Heads up that you have to ask for salsa. Anyways, the food was tasty, authentic and made fresh. I had a bottle of sangria soda and it took me right back to Mexico. I’m sure we’ll be back our next time through that area. Salud!

Heard about a al pastor place in the town of Chualar(which I had never heard of prior). Went into the Monterey County fire station down the block to inquire if this was the place and they were literally just finishing their burrito and taco lunch from Hidalgo! Best al pastor I’ve ever eaten. Carne asada and chili verde plate very good too. Authentic food, nice people. We stopped on the way up and back from our trip to the Bay Area. The carnitas place next door(LaFiesta) is BOMB too!

Nice small town taqueria. The chicken taco was good, very good, The chili Verde burrito was again very good. the chili Verde was a bit salty for my taste. I want to come back and test the asada and al pastor. Dusty parking. restrooms that make you think you are in a third world. Keep the focus on the food and you will be happy! Support local area restaurants — I would bet this could be the best in town

Great authentic food, conveniently located(when you happen to be in the area and trying to stay near the fwy), and exactly what I was looking for when it came to quality. It was like eating at your Tia’s or Abueltias house.

Nice clean and friendly with ez on and off to 101 and pretty good truck access and parking. The $ 5 carne asada burrito was good not great but a fair value. I also got a carne asada taco for $ 1.50. Never saw a taco like it before. Two 3 inch tortillas on top of each other with an ounce of meat and little else. Very friendly and fast service. May stop again but I’ll skip the tacos.
