This research laboratory has a friendly and professional staff, and I highly recommend participation in their clinical trials. They accept type-​1 and tyoe-​2 diabetics, non diabetic healthy people, and those with high cholesterol and are overweight for their studies. The facility is climate controlled, CATV at each bed, and WiFi available. For studies with overnight stay, they provide 3 meals and snacks. I enjoy the staff. They are very dedicated and kind people who help keep you comfortable. The studies are paid, and mileage reimbursement provided. When you call the 888 number they’ll see if you qualify for a prescreening visit and will tell you the compensation paid for your participation. Thumbs up !

I heard about the Profil Institute on the radio. The ad said they were looking for healthy males, age 18 — 45, good health, not overweight, non smoking, yada yada yada. It sounded like I fit the bill so I decided to go online and see what they were all about.
In my research I read a few of these Unilocal reviews and although some people on Unilocal seemed upset about some of the workers attitude at the Profil Institute, I thought I’d set up an appointment to go in and check it out for myself. After all, if I went through with it, this particular study would pay over $ 2800.
I called the number on the radio ad and set up and appointment for a medical screening. In that screening you fill out some basic medical history paperwork. They also weigh you, take some blood, ask you some questions about your medical history and your lifestyle and then you’re on your way. They initially told me to set aside four hours for this screening but it actually only took about an hour total.
Within the week they contacted me and told me my blood work came back okay and that I was in fact a candidate for the research and asked if I would like to set up dates to come in for the study.
This particular study required three separate three day two night stays. They preferred that I set up my visits in successive weeks. I set up my visit dates for Thursday, Friday and Saturday on back to back to back weeks.
The study room is a large bay type room. there are about 8 beds and each bed has it’s own TV and each has curtains that can be drawn for privacy.
On the first day (Thursday) I had to check in at 7 am. The first day is pretty much a complete waste of time. You don’t do anything but lay in your bed, watch TV, read books, walk around, etc. You are given specific meal times to eat. The food they feed you actually isn’t bad but I’m not a picky eater. I can see how picky eaters may find the food a bit sub-​par. The goal is basically to get your blood sugar level stable for 24 hours before the actual study begins. You cannot bring your own food. You have to eat what they feed you at the times they feed it to you to keep the study as controlled as possible. You get a snack around 9:30 at night and that’s the last thing you’re going to eat for 35 hours. It’s a pretty boring day but I got paid just for being there so I can’t really complain.
The second day (Friday) is what you’re really there for. They wake you up fairly early and get you prepped for the study. You get three IVs in you. One they draw blood from, one is hooked up to a little machine that constantly checks your blood sugar level and one is hooked up to a glucose line to keep your blood sugar level stable. You get a shot of the research drug also. Day two sucks. You can’t leave the bed and you can’t eat. For someone like me this is torture. You have to pee in a bottle and if you have to go number two then you have to use a bed pan. You basically just lay there and watch TV or read books. Every 30 minutes they draw a small amount of blood from you but other than that there is no action. Its a 24 hour process so if it starts at 9 am it goes until 9 am the next day. It’s easy but very boring.
Day three (Saturday) is pretty much like day one. After the study is done they unhook you from the IVs and they feed you. It’s pretty much the best meal ever! At least it feels that way because by this time you haven’t eaten for 35 hours. You hang around for most of the day. You can take a shower and get up and walk around. It feels good to stretch out because you’ve been bed ridden for 24 hours strait. They feed you lunch and monitor you until 3:30. After that they cut you loose. Again, it’s a super easy day.
For my particular study I got paid $ 870 for each three day visit. Combine these three visits and the pay for your initial screening and the follow up visit and it comes out to over $ 2800. EASY EASY MONEY.
The staff was awesome. For anyone that says they were rude or mean then I would have to assume those people are generally unhappy people. The staff does everything for you. Sure they sometimes wake you up at night to draw blood. Sure it’s uncomfortable to have those IVs in you. Sure it sucks to be bed ridden and sure it sucks to be a bit sleep deprived but you’re getting paid. All in all the staff is wonderful. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone that wanted to do a clinical research study.

3 Unilocal Stars for helping to understand diabetes and obesity, but had to be honest and deduct 2 Unilocal Stars for hard to get a hold of people there to talk to and calls are infrequently returned, I do not have diabetes, but have tried to get on studies for control groups that pay very well but have not had much luck. The facility is nice and the people seem friendly that work there.
