Scripps Mercy Hospital Chula Vista

Two words: stay away. The ER is a joke. Staff (particularly the rent-​a-​cop in lobby) is beyond stupid. Although staff try to help, there seems to be too many cooks in the kitchen and nothing gets done unless you hassle them repeatedly. The level of unprofessional behavior is astounding. I witnessed a doctor yell at two nurses for not checking patient bracelets (to ID them correctly) so two patients received exams they didn’t need. Talk about negligence. Scary to think staff are lazy enough to cut corners that can harm patients. If you have Scripps, change to Sharp!

I want to say what a great experience my wife had when she went to this ED for an eye emergency. She was taken straight to a treatment bed and had her eye rinsed out immediately! Dr Ochs and Heather saw her right away and she receiver the numbing drops! Although she still has to follow up with Opthamologist from the chemical burn she had a GREAT experience! Our doctors are all at Scripps Green, but we would not hesitate to return to Scripps Mercy Chula Vista

I had the best nurses ever. They were taking really good care of me the whole time I was there. They made me feel much better and they are all nice.

Considerably one of the many older hospitals in SD, the facility still function very well and with utmost care providing the best services to the community. Read so many negative comments and false accusations, however with all do respect, this hospital provides multiple charities to indigents as well as to those no to little funding while the hospital absorbs the cost. It’s so easy for others to give a very detrimental and poor ratings when they do not know how the facility operates. Many of the patients that go here have no means of paying the hospital and yet the facility still go very far to help many. The nurses here are very professional, polite and provide excellent care. I hope that before people judge see to it first the situation. Everyone is a priority here. I’ve been here many times and over and over, it remained 6 stars.

Hands down the worst hospital I’ve ever been. I had to bring my 5 year old son with a horrible bug bite that caused his eye to swell shut and started to cause blurry vision. It has been 3 hours and we still sitting here waiting to be seen. The nurse’s are unprofessional and a waste of skilled talent. I am sickened by the behavior. I typically give respect but when you show me that you lack in training, compassion, understanding and well, skills in general for a industry that requires it; is truly beyond me. Hour 4 and we are still here. How does a HOSPITAL work like this? So sad.

On Friday at 6:39pm on 8÷28÷15, I called the Radiology Dept to reschedule a CT scan. I was told to call back Saturday. I called back Saturday and was told I had to call back Monday because Radiology is closed on the weekend! Clearly there’s a communication disconnect and a knowledge of operations hours disconnect going on at Scripps Chula Vista. Some employees don’t seem to know the operating hours of their own departments. To top it off, the main operator who answered the phone when I called at 2:13pm on 8÷29÷15 could have been a little more professional. It was just «How can I direct your call?» and then click… call transferred. No «thank you» at least.

I came in due to discomfort on a thursday around 8:30 — 9:00ish…man this place was packed. I. Actually thought i was gonna be here forever. Service was actually really quick. Very helpful and friendly ppl. Made me feel very comfortable and cared for. The nurses are very understanding and sincere. Thanks so much for the staff who serviced me and thank you dr. Frost for the service and all the information you provided me with.

Old, curly, blonde haired receptionist at the er check in desk has such a bad attitude! Working in the medical field myself, I find that customer service is extremely important. ESPECIALLY when you’re working in a field where you’re helping SICK people that need your help. She might have been having a bad day and I understand that everyone has bad days, but that’s no excuse to treat patients/​customers with a sour puss attitude! She would speak to the patients condescendingly. and wouldn’t even acknowledge people waiting in line to check in. Might I add, no one was giving her an attitude and nobody was being rude to her. She was just being plain out mean! I didn’t see one smile come from her. Definitely looked like she was NOT happy to be at work. Aside from her, all the other staff members were very nice and helpful!

I was pleasantly surprised at the great experience I had at Scripps today. I was afraid that I was miscarrying, so the staff quickly did some tests and sent me in for an ultrasound where I learned the baby is just fine. I was there for a total of 2 hours which actually went by very fast. I had my 15 month old with me and the nurses were very accomodating. It is usually scary to have to go to a hospital and I appreciated all of the kindness today.

Dear scrips Chula Vista: quit your bullshittin with your auto reply n just get it together. The one star is because I had to give one.

I came In to the ER on 05÷11÷15 and starting with the ER was a very shitty experience and a ghetto hospital. I will never ever come to this hospital and definitely never recommend this hospital to no one. I ended up getting admitting after 10 hours In the ER and finally they got me a room the next day which was only a couple hours before they took me for surgery. I hate this hospital.

Came in for a severe stomach pain at 3:00AM and it took 2 hours to get through paperwork with virtually no line to see a nurse.
The emergency room was difficult to find. Luckily the security was very kind and escourted us to the emergency room.
The receptionist had little to no empathy or customer service about the pain I was experiencing. Also, there were ants crawling over her desk, not a good sign already.
My girlfriend and I saw a young girl with what looked like a high fever in one of those patient rooms, and then they tried to seat us in the same room without changing the sheets.
After all this, the staff was very professional and treated us very courteously. If there were more options to chose from, I wouldn’t chose to go to this emergency room again.

Horrible wait times. Horrible triage nurses. Apparently calling 911 for a simple fever or because you’re a drug seeker is more important than possible appenticitis. No one tells you when you’ll be seen. The front waiting room is cleared out quickly and when you think you’ll be seen, you’re herded to another waiting area with other people to sit. They need to learn how to prioritize their patients.

Physical Therapist Cheryl, Julia, and Jessica are one of the best PTs in San Diego!
The clinic is so clean and nicely organized. Everyone works together to make every patient in the clinic reach their goals big or small. Their knowledge and experience combined with compassion is just plain elite. Of course I have to give credit to everyone else who is behind the scenes such as the front desk personal, supervisors, and PTAs. It is just plain obvious that they all are in it for glory of improving the quality of life for individuals with any orthopedic problem.

I recently visited the same ER 2X in a week. Mind you the first time it was great experiemce and the doctor told me if the sypmtoms did not go away in like 2 days or worsen to not hesitate and come back. I came back because i had gotten worse. The pain was worse. The first part was ok and rather quickly. After they took me back to wait for Dr. I sat there for 7 hours. They didnt even offer me any meds for pain. The Dr. That came to talk to me was rude. He said i didnt look sick and if i was id look alot worse than what i look like. Lucky for him i didnt talk back to him becausei was in pain. But that was rude off the back
They drew my blood and kicked me out to the waiting room. Then after another3 hours the nurse came just to discharge me. I was pissed off. Not only did this doctor not take the time to listen but had he taken the time he would of know i had not bee able to keep food down the past 3 days lost 15 pounds and was dehydrated and was actually suffering from pancreatitis. I told the nurse that it would have been nice for the doctor to come out n see me himself. But i was not stupid n was persistent. I went the next day to Sharp chula vista where i was admitted n taken good care of. I would never go to this sucky ass hospital again. I dont appreciate being told i dont look sick. Hell you dont know my history. Although thats the story of my life but as a medical professional it is not ur duty to tell me how i feel or suppose to look if i am sick. We are all different and endure pain differently. To think i had to pay 125 for that service that was not only rude but incomplete. A good doctor comes and talks to his patients and explains everything in detail.

Horrible service doesnt even deserve a review. My mom has been sick with heart issues and its been 5 hours and hasnt received meds or anything.

I went to the e.r. a few months back my chair was unable to have the footrest extend all of the way up so I felt like I was going to slide out of the chair. the male nurse I had a as great as he could be along with the doctor. When it came to some bad news though they said it as if it was a normal thing. At first I guess I was more in shock than anything so I had to process the information without breaking down in the hospital.
I ended up waiting for 2 hours for the person that had to take me for some testing. While in the other room there was a point where a female nurse needed to be present during one of the tests so the male nurse went to go find one. I feel like I waited 10 minutes before he came back with one and I heard her say that he owes her lunch or something.
Once I returned to my spot my mom told me that the nurse was moaning and groaning when asked for assistance saying she didn’t want to go and had better things to do or something to that extent. I didn’t really think about it then because I was more worried about myself. Now that I think back it makes me really mad. How could someone be throwing a fit about helping a fellow nurse when its their job?

Who likes to go to the ER? People who are usually there are the very injured and/​or sick of course, but I have seen adults and children waiting in the ER waiting to see a doctor for a cold. Then those people are talking and texting and look pretty well. I guess it’s used as a doctor’s office for those who do not have insurance.
When I have taken someone to an ER, we are usually there AT LEAST 5 – 6 hours. You get excited when they call your name but … it’s for triage then you have to sit down and wait.
Well here it is totally different. I take care of an elderly woman and she needed care. Check in was excellent. Triage came quickly. Then right to wait for a doctor. Very efficient. The doctor came over and spoke with us (me). Dr. Hernandez, aside from being handsome (hey! it counts towards the rating) he asked all the right questions and was very nice. My friend was taken to an area to wait for blood work, etc. I sat with her. Though we were there a long time, I had no idea so much time had passed. The reason? My friend was continually attended to. First an ECG… 10 minutes later… blood work and so on. She was evaluated in the best way, more efficient than her primary care. Dr. Hernandez and Jen our nurse were amazing. Despite screaming drunk people, frequent flyers, and just plain crazy people coming in via ambulance, my friend was excellently taken care of.
Thankfully my friend was not as bad off as we originally thought.
when an ER has staff who are friendly, efficient, and patient (Dr. Hernandez spoke with us at length and of course, I kept him busy with questions throughout the visit), that ER deserves a review!

I took my mom to the emergency room for what appeared to be a spider bite, but ended up being a staph infection on her toe. The check-​in staff was speedy and courteous, and Dr. Handy quickly diagnosed and treated my mom. Even though they were pretty busy, we were in and out in less than half an hour. It’s the fastest trip to the ER that I’ve ever experienced. Thanks Scripps!

This is a review on behalf of my grandma. She stayed here in the ICU and on the 4^th floor.
My major problems came with the nurses constantly trying to push morphine on my grandma. She is in pain because of her arthritis but she refused numerous times to take it. The nurses know that my grandma has very weak kidneys she is nearing the point of needing dialysis. Obviously morphine could potentially lead to her kidney’s shutting down and then the worst thing.
The secretary or nurse monitoring people coming in between 7 and 7:30pm had a bad attitude, no compassion, was rude, and was surprisingly racist.
The next problem came with the nurses administering medicine meant for the nose into the eyes. My grandma had puffy and red eyes for a day and a half, I was just flaberghasted that the nurses don’t know what they are doing. Don’t they read the directions on the medicine or speak to the doctor to know what needs to be administered?
The next problem came with my grandma finally getting off the feeding tube and beginning to eat real food. They were giving my grandma food with high sodium and high potassium. Supposedly this was doctor’s orders, we thought this was strange because of grandmas unstable blood pressure and weak kidneys. Apparently they made a mistake with the meals, they should have been feeding her low sodium and low/​no potassium meals.
The takeaway is not to send your family here if you want them to be taken care of or have a long life. Too many mistakes are made here, there is no organization, structure, and operations are a mess. They need to hire consultants or clean house because my impression is that this place is responsible for people dying prematurely due to mistakes, over-​excessive use of drugs, inappropriate administration of medicine. If you can afford it get your family out of here!
