Tamales Betty

Food used to be great. I would go back if the cook that used to be their would come back. I would eat their almost the whole week but the new ownership decided to let him go. That was not a smart move sorry looking for a new Mexican restaurant. The food and the service are bad.

They took advanced payment for large order they couldn’t fill (closed due to flood), called to get address to send refund check but never received it! I called one number and it was out of service.

I’m soooo sad, We pre ordered Tamales for Christmas and picked them up on Christmas Eve. We took them home so we all can enjoy annnnnnnnnd the 12 Pork Tamales smelled BURNT and TASTED BURNT! The Chicken ones we also ordered were all fine and tasted Great but the PORK was such a disappointment.
Now instead of enjoying them on Christmas and Christmas Eve they are sitting in our refrigerator in a bag that smells. Bah Humbug!!!

We tried the spicy chicken and spicy pork tamales and they were awesome. The pork has a nice smokey flavour and a nice tender texture. My son called this place «tamale heaven». After trying a couple for a snack we bought a dozen for later. Great flavours, green sauce is spicy, but soooo good! Not a lot of options here they really stick to their specialty and we’re good with that.

The guy seem pist off bought so tamales $ 2.50 each very small for the price I think if they are gonna price them that high they should at least make them bigger. won’t be coming back they are ok tamales not worth the price

It’s hard to find a spot that has great fresh tamales but look no further! The staff are always really friendly and the tamales are always delicious, especially the pork & chicken tamales!

Love their corn tamales … best in San Diego!!! Call ahead to make sure they have the flavor you are looking for.

By the time I called to order, they only had a few options left. I got chicken, beef and pineapple tamales to go.
The beef and pineapple were really good… the chicken was just okay. kinda dry.
I’m excited to try the mole chicken ones they were out of last time!

I went there for the champurrado which was good but lukewarm. I wasn’t hungry but tried a tamale, what the heck. Ordered pork with green chili which was actually ham and it came with no green sauce. Masa had a nice enough texture, not too dry but needed salt. All in all, my opinion is that they are just ok and over rated. Service was good.

Stopped by today and bought a dozen for $ 24.99. I thought that was kind of expensive, but reminded myself of the overhead they have to pay for their strip mall location. Even still, these tamales are expensive!
Anyway, I have had plenty of sweet pineapple tamales. Now, I love pineapple, but I don’t like pineapple mixed with other things (I do not agree with pineapple on pizza, for example), so when I saw that they had tamales that were JUST the sweet corn, I died and went to heaven. Because really it’s not a tamale, it’s a tamale-​shaped sweet corn cake! I had gotten a sweet corn tamale here a couple years ago and it was awful — it tasted like crisco or something gross, but today… It was AMAZING. Praise the sweet corn tamale angels.
The mild chicken was okay — the chicken was a little dry, but I’d rather have dryish white meat over creepy ligamenty pieces of dark meat.
The mild pork however… I didn’t eat it, but my grandpa said it was unlike any pork tamale he had ever had (and he’s 81 — I’m sure he’s had many pork tamales in 81 years). He said it was almost like sliced lunch meat inside the masa. What the?
We haven’t tried the beef yet.
But overall, it’s good. Sweet corn tamales are amazing. And just a little pricey.

Excellent!!! my first time there and I got a spicy chicken tamales w/​a side of beans n Cheese.
I have heard about them for years and we have passed by them a few times, finally decided to give em’a try. It was so good really hit the authentic mexican food nail on the head. Definitely recommend to anyone with a little inner mexican. lol

This place is the BOMB! The tamales are exquisite and delicious they are very fluffy and filled with a good portion of cheese, beef or chicken (depending on what you order) they also sell green chilaquiles that are delicious! The place is very clean and the service is quick and great too. This restaurant should seriously come out in a food network tv show like Diners Drive Ins and Dives or some show be recognized for their great taste and authenticity!

By far this is the BEST tamales I’ve ever eaten. They were fresh tasting, moist, and plenty of filling. Tender with some pretty incredible flavor. I ordered the Spicy Chicken ones. Will definitely be visiting again.

I’m pretty sure these were the best tamales I’ve ever had. They were not gummy or rubbery… just fluffy, which I liked. I tried the corn one — SO good. It’s not too sweet and could be eaten savory (with sauce) or plain for a sort of dessert. The pineapple one was also good, though I am not exactly in love with fruit in tamales.
I’m sad that they were out of jalapeño/​cheese, though it was after 10 am on a Sunday, so I guess I shouldn’t be surprised.
The place is clean and serves other Mexican breakfast items as well. The chilaquiles were more like nachos in sauce. The green sauce option is very spicy, so I’d go with the red version. Their rice is good, too!

At $ 2.50 a tamale you would expect to get the best tamale you ever ate. Not only are they overpriced, they are horrible.
The Pork tamale I just tried was made with liquid smoke, spaghetti sauce and crushed red pepper.
I’m sorry but any place who would sell these as tamales doesn’t deserve to be in business!

Finally got a chance to drop by here a few weeks ago and I’m very happy I did. Friendly service, clean atmosphere (plus a TV!) and lots of things to choose from. Sadly my group & I came at a time where they were running out of tamales for the day, but we managed to nab a bunch that were left (mainly corn, pineapple, and some of the beef ones). The tamales were very delicious, in addition to the other entrees my family & friends ordered (vegetarian asada fries, quesadillas, etc). Overall, I had a nice visit, and I hope to come back again especially to try the other tamale flavors.

Current tamal prices are $ 2.95/ea or $ 27/​dozen. The masa was moist & the fillings are generous. I preferred the cheese (cheese + jalapeño) and spicy chicken (chicken + habanero).
The only downside is location is a bit sketchy. There’s a dumpster outside within steps of the entrance and a homeless convention was taking place. They all looked like they were shooting up in the middle of the day — which can’t be good for anyone’s business.
Take a stun gun and an appetite for homestyle tamales and you’re set.

las tres estrellas las pongo por que le tengo cariño a este lugar y nunca me habia fallado pero si hoy ubiera sido mi primera visita sin dudarlo le ubiera puesto solo una estrella.

y resulta que hoy, yo presumiendo a mi hermano las gorditas de tamales bettys fuimos.
pedimos gorditas tacos dorados y sopes
las gorditas: estaba la masa cruda! si cruda se veia y sabia cruda no es por exagerar aparte no nos pusieron el queso fresco y frijoles como de costumbre lo cual tampoco me gusto.

y finalmente los sopes: yo ya había pedido sopes antes y nunca me habían tocado asi estaban súper masudos bien gordos antes de estaban así
aparte de que me decepcionaron a mi, también me dejaron en vergüenza con mi hermano.
que pena la verdad por que honestamente siempre me había quedado satisfecha con su comida.
este review lo escribí con la intención de que los encargados lo lean y por favor tengan mas cuidado en como mandan su comida para llevar. no se si fueron los cocineros o mala suerte no se que les paso pero la verdad yo no vuelvo a recomendarlos para evitar vergüenzas como la de hoy
