The Box Dance Studio

I used to be on the adult team here called Rype. When I first joined, there were only 4 people on the team including me. The team members and directors were very welcoming, nice, professional and made me feel like I belonged. As more people joined, the team members and the directors began to show their true colors. Michelle Lange, the owner of the studio, wrote a contract for the team with a few guidelines, fees and standards to be upheld. I followed every guideline. Other members of the team broke a few rules that Michelle stated would result in immediate removal of the team:
— fighting or threatening violence
— disrespectful conduct
— harassment
— negligence that could lead to damage of property
While at the studio and on the team I experienced each of these personally. No apology was given, no help was provided and I ended up being the one to get kicked off the team due to one member who didn’t like me and wanted me off the team. He got his way because she played favorites. I wasn’t the one who deviated from the standards, I was the victim.
To conclude, the directors and members of the rype team are unprofessional for not following their own standards and playing favorites, rude, disrespectful and don’t mean when they say you are family. No one kicks out family when they are being bullied. I definitely did enjoy my time there and loved to be a part of rype but the goodbye I got was cold hearted. If you’re looking for a dance team, this is a great one to join but expect to be disrespected especially when leaving the team.

I am giving this studio 5 stars for being a breath of fresh air. There is no other place in Chula Vista that provides as dope as a venue as this one (open to all ages).
They provide education on various Hip-​Hop based dance styles from teachers that are able to accommodate different needs to many students.

So… this review goes back to the actions I’ve seen at the most recent, local dance competition I’ve been to and what happened when my niece left the dance studio for school, church reasons, and a chance to pursue other opportunities with other dance organizations.
With dance crews, I get that there is a sense of comradery and fellowship each crew has. You’re family and you do what you can to help that person succeed. When my niece left the Box, the goodbye wasn’t exactly what any of us expected. It was cold and I would have expected more out of an organization who presents themselves professionally on the exterior. What also surprised me was when my niece approached one of the directors during the competition to say hello, but in return she received an unwelcoming stare. I was not expecting that at all, based on what I’ve seen when she was part of the team.
In addition, one of the directors or business owners sat behind us during a competition and sent out sarcastic remarks about my niece’s current team during the awards ceremony. It’s upsetting to hear something like that especially from grown adults that are trying to instill moral values into our kids.
I still believe the Box is a great place. They’ll learn how to enhance talents that our kids never thought they had, and it is a wonderful place for them to learn. However, I would expect a little bit more professionalism, discipline and respect from the directors especially in public. If you’re looking to bring your kids here, then by all means go for it. There is quality put out on that dance floor and I can attest to it. But, it will still be an awkward moment for me anytime I have to pass by the studio. I hope it won’t be for you.
