Atomic Number Ten

Great finds, but I’d love to see some more menswear.

This was by far my favorite vintage store I went to in Cincinnati. There was an excellent selection and the pieces were all in a very good condition. The employee working there when I went in was very nice and hospitable, which made me really enjoy my time in there. In the end, I found 2 shirts that I love and for under $ 25! If you like looking for some cool, eclectic, and funky clothes, this is a great place to go!

I already knew I liked this place when 2 friendly canine’s greet you at the front door (and subsequently stick their nose in the dressing room while I’m changing to say what’s up).
Great selection of GOOD vintage clothing, despite the semi-​small place. Quality stuff. I would go shopping here for clothes in a heartbeat, even though I don’t even wear vintage.
A little pricey, depending on what you’re searching for. Came across Atomic Number Ten when I was thrift shopping for a 1960’s dress and found one that fit the mold perfectly. Except it cost me like $ 40 or something, which was more than I was looking to spend that day on something I wouldn’t wear a lot.
The employee (or maybe owner? Not sure), was super friendly and VERY VERY helpful. Seriously. She knew her stuff.

I love vintage clothing and this place has it. Not only do they have clothes for every decade, but they have then resonably priced! Find clothes, shoes, accessories, home décor, everything! 2 thumbs up.

Lot’s of interesting doodads and clothing pieces. They’ve really increased the men’s selection, to my relief. But the cashier/​curator was just as distant and detached from the store and the shoppers within as I remembered, fully engulfed in her gabby friends’ conversation and that dog. The dog is cute though and basically was the only factor that secured Atomic No. 10 a third star.
The fourth star comes from the fact that Atomic seems to price quite below market value. The pristine 1970’s Façonnable sweater (with original tag!) usually would sell for at least $ 150, and I got it for $ 50. Not bad.

I want to like ANT, I really, really do.
I think that’s why I keep coming back– because I believe in it and I have hope, even though I usually leave empty-​handed. But I have such great things to say about it anyway.
When you walk in, you’re always greeted by a lovely lady at the counter and the ANT representative (the cute doggy on the floor). I always give him a pet on the head when I come in.
The shoe collection to the immediate right always tempts me. The best shoes that catch my attention always seem to range around $ 15. And just like their clothes, they fall a bit too short to actually reel me in. I’m not too big on their showcase of clothes to be honest, but I always make sure to browse through them.
I’m an accessory junkie (or strive to be), so I judge a good vintage store by its accessories (although I probably should focus more on the clothes since my wardrobe is shrinking…), and ANT definitely has potential. Like, real potential. The one purchase I made here was a pair of vintage clip-on’s (for $ 4). But even with that, I was a bit hesitant in buying.
Today I walked in and asked if they had watches. She did, but they weren’t priced yet. She still showed me and they were adorable– the girl certainly has taste.
All in all, it’s a great, charming store that I truly hope will succeed– other than being a tad bit over my budget (understandable since they seem to carefully hand pick all their items).

I used to think the used stuff was grody and weird. Maybe I’ve been in too many Goodwills? I don’t know. This place opened my mind into the world of what it really means to be vintage.
Sometimes the word thrift can have a negative connotation this place is anything but. Every time I walk in here my mind goes crazy with all the combinations you can create. These are one of a kind unique vintage pieces hand selected by the owner herself. From beautiful silk scarves to 50’s housewife dresses, to 70’s china, this place has something for everyone.
This place also reminds me of sneaking into my mother’s closet growing up and trying on her jewelry. Wonderful memories of what fashion was, is, and can be. Love this place!

Located in the heart of Main Street in OTR, Atomic Number Ten is home to two larger rooms filled to the brim with vintage items from the 1950s — 1990s. Here you’ll find lots of funky clothing and accessories for both women and men, as well as household goods.
This isn’t a store where you can go in with a specific need; it’s much more of a «browse until you find a vanity purchase» type of shop. Bright colored and unique patterned dresses and collared shirts for men, lavish coats and blazers, and old timey shoes… the only problem is, most don’t come in my size.
If you lack curves, you’ll have an easy time finding something in Atomic Number Ten. Unfortunately for me, when I’d find a garment I liked, it would be way too small. Most of the store ran in size 4 or 6, the equivalent to a small or medium. Ladies shoes were also sizes 5 — 7. I’ve found this to be a common problem in most boutique vintage shops.
The household items were interesting to browse through, but nothing caught my eye that I want sitting in my living room. I’m sure there’s a genre of woman that’s a perfect customer for Atomic Number Ten. As much as I want to like this shop, that style of woman is not me.

Atomic Number Ten was pretty cool, but I didn’t buy anything. It seemed very heavy on 80’s merchandise and was a bit expensive. If I lived in the neighborhood, I’d probably stop by here more often, but it’s going to be awhile before I go back to see what’s new (old?).

Interesting neighborhood surrounding this shop. The street it’s on looks like a movie set from West Side Story. It’s colorful, freshly painted brownstone buildings all with matching fire escape stairs.
The store itself from the outside had a great window display, large glass windows decorated with colorful clothes accessories and antiques. Scout (the dog) greets you on your way inside. He is super friendly, but also super mellow, kinda just sticks to himself and lays out by the front door. Main room had lots of shoes and accessories as well as bags and VERY cool random antiques, including kitchen utensils, suitcases, old toys and candles and more.
In the second room was most of the clothes.
Great selection of items. Separated on racks by «type of item» so all the shirts are together, all the sweaters, dresses, skirts, etc. and within each section most items are correctly sized in a way that is easy to browse. Sizes on hangers make it easy to estimate what will fit. From XS to XXL surprise! There’s something for everyone!
I liked their shirt selection since I ended up buying 3 shirts and one sweater. All very decently priced. Shirts ranged from $ 10-​$ 16 and my wool sweater was $ 16 (100% wool).
Dressing rooms were make-​shift but quite comfortable and good lighting.
The music in the store was great. I sang along to many of the tunes from Jazz classics to 80s punk to The Beatles to current alternative rock. I caught myself singing along as I tried on my garments.
When I went to pay I asked the lady behind the count for a discount since I was getting 4 items and she agreed to give it to me.
Went to Iris Tea/​Coffee and bookshop for a cup of coffee and these series of events lead me to feel self-​nourished and pampered!

After visiting Another Part of The Forest, a friend and I wandered into Atomic Number Ten at her request. As the description says, Atomic Number Ten is a vintage/​thrift store specializing in older clothes and knick knacks. As another user stated though, the clothes are almost exclusively for women, so if you are guy this might not be your store of choice.
Although we didn’t end up buying anything, that isn’t to say they didn’t have anything cool. I enjoyed looking at some of their old coin sets (history buff, sue me), and I thought that the old photo albums they had sitting out were interesting as well. In the end though, there really was anything there that totally jumped out at us. If you are into vintage items however, I would still give this store a shot. After all, one mans junk is another mans treasure!

I have to say this place did disappoint me a little. It’s definitely more of a thrift store than a vintage store. There were large racks just full of sweatshirts and T-​shirts; so it’s a great place if you want a goofy/​tacky sweatshirt for a party. They had a good selection of shoes but they were placed by the window and a lot had faded from the sun. They did have a cute housewares section that I liked.
Prices were pretty reasonable at this place but the workers weren’t very friendly. I’d definitely check Foursquare and the Unilocal app for deals because I got a free tote with my purchases (black dress and a retro Boy Scouts button-​up).

I have been here several times, and I always find something worth buying. Whether you are looking for some decorations for your house/​apartment; looking for cool, vintage clothing; or clothes for a Halloween costume or tacky sweater party, Atomic Number Ten has it all.
The owners are very nice and are always willing to help you or answer any questions.
The one thing I must say, is that the clothing is a little on the expensive side. BUT, it is worth the additional charge. Instead of looking through rows and rows of clothes at a thrift store, you can come here and look through several rows of the good stuff. The added convenience is worth the extra charge.
If you are allergic to dogs though, they do let their dog stay in the store some days, so watch your allergies.

I already knew I would like this store before I even went in! Out eating downtown one night, I saw these amazing, what I thought were vintage shoes that I just had to have! Only problem was, they were currently being worn by someone already!

So when I finally got the opportunity to shop there, I was already sold! I didn’t see those amazing shoes, she is probably still wearing the lovelies about town, but I did see tons of great other stuff. Very eclectic array of items ranging from kitchenware, vintage sewing patterns, clothes, mens ties, aprons, and of course vintage shoes! The prices are a tad too high, but with vintage clothes harder to find, that may be why.
I was in a time crunch at the time and you need lots of time to vintage shop, so I left empty handed, but I will be back to keep an eye out in the shoe section when she is ready to hand over the coveted shoes to a new owner! Hopefully Me!

While everyone may not wish to adorn themselves in 80s fashion, I *do* believe that everyone can find something they love here at Atomic Number Ten.
Take me for instance. I probably wouldn’t sport any of the dresses or blouses hanging on the racks, but I love the accessories and kitchen items here!
My favorite scores have been funky green beads that can spice up any of my more toned down office outfits, a funky blue belt that works with dresses or long tops, and a great, bright orange serving dish with a clear cover and area under the tray for ice, perfect for keeping chilled party foods chilled!
If you’re into this period of clothes, you’ll love what you find. If you’re not, like me, you’ll still love what you find! It is like a flashback from your parents’ kitchen table with the cute serving dishes, glassware, thermoses, and salt and pepper shakers. And my Pyrex collecting friend had to demonstrate large amounts of restraint to not make a purchase in this section of the store.
So if you’re the kind of person who likes to own unique items, this is the place for you to shop!

I love vintage stores, the idea of owning some items with some mysterious history is really neat to me.

Feels like a miniature version of the classic Brooklyn vintage shops, and I mean that in a good way. I haven’t necessarily found anything that I’ve wanted to purchase yet, but going in and hunting is definitely worth it!

I hope this isn’t insulting to Cincinnati, but when I walk into Atomic Number Ten I feel like I could be in Chicago or Brooklyn. Every time I go there, I get this feeling like, «this is too cool to be in Cincinnati.» I say that with love, Cincy. We’re just short on awesome vintage stores, and Atomic Number Ten does a wonderful job filling that void.
You’ll find quirky pieces for your home and kitchen, funky shoes, ties, belts and a wide variety of clothing. It’s colorful, lively, and it’s very well curated. The shop is well balanced and the variety of objects feel in tune with each other. Does that sound too new-​agey? Then just go look for yourself, you’ll see what I mean.
It’s a small store but I could spend hours in there. And once you’re finished shopping, there are several excellent bars and restaurants within a few blocks. Get some fancy shoes and a fancy drink.

What is it about vintage stores that makes me feel so uncomfortable?
I’ve never felt completely at ease in a used store, and I can’t tell you why. Maybe it’s the smell (that old musty air that seems to linger around used clothing and furniture), maybe it’s my out-​with-​the-​old-​in-​with-​the-​new attitude (good riddance I say!) or maybe it’s just that I don’t like retro-​styles. Hard core class from the ‘20s and ‘30s is grand but the 70’s? 80’s? Bleh.
This is why I’m always so surprised that I enjoy walking into Atomic Number 10, one of the cooler and more interesting stores on Main Street (with an equally awesome name to match).
Don’t get me wrong, all those things I said before still stand true (except for the musty smell, which only seems to come off some of their clothes). Walking into AN10 feels like you’re walking into the coolest garage sale on the block. Fantastically faded and logoed cups and dishes line the store. On the wall are two neon skeletons, each with wearable accessories next to their respective parts (awesome bracelets are near their wrists, belts near their pelvis, and so on). Vintage toys are in the corner and the staff encourages you to play with them.
In fact, the staff are excellent, excellent people. Full of smiles and information.
In the other room of AN10 are the clothes. Rows and rows of them, mostly for women, but a large selection of vintage styles. If you’re into that, you’ll find something here. It’s not for me, but for others, absolutely.
Like all vintage clothing, everything is a little over-​priced, which I get since it’s a one-​of-​a-​kind look. Still, pulling out a faded ugly shirt and seeing a $ 40 price tag on it makes me laugh a little.
If you’re walking Main Street in OtR, and you should, stop in here. Even if you don’t buy a thing, it’s still worth walking around and seeing what old things are new.

Good clean vintage and not overpriced!
Living across from this sweet newer addition to OTR Main street, I have walked in this store several times on my way to and from work. The window displays pull you in, creatively developed with colored tape pieces, beautiful hanging scarves and one month a sweet display of paint chips! The shop is very eclectic and has a variety of clothing from sweet 70’s vintage to walks down the 80’s and early 90’s memory lane (for me…).
Not just clothes though! and Guys — don’t be afraid, there are things for you too, especially sweet vintage wing tip shoes. Household items like mirrors, plates and even recipe holders (I have had my eye on one for a while now…) are available at super reasonable prices. Speaking of prices too — join the mailing list and receive tons of coupons and sales announcements! Great store and perfect for downtown.

Atomic Number Ten is a new vintage clothing shop located in Over the Rhine on Main St.
The store has a funky vibe: high ceilings, colorful and eccentric décor, exposed brick. It’s a great downtown space, but what really stands out is the quality of the selection at the store. The co-​owner, Katie, explained to me how she spent months traveling the region, seeking out vintage shops, yard sales, and thrift stores, to select items for the shop. Nearly everything I saw had an immediate aesthetic appeal and was displayed thoughtfully. It is clear that every single item in the store was hand-​picked with a flair for hip vintage pieces, whether it be clothing, shoes, accessories, or housewares. This makes shopping there super easy because you don’t have to sift through a lot to find the good stuff. For me, this is a plus because I don’t have a great attention span for a day of endless shopping and digging through piles. Here, you can walk in and are guaranteed to love every third thing you see.
I ended up with a brightly colored, oversized cardigan and pin, while my friend found an adorable polka-​dot dress and cute vintage fedora. As far as price goes, the items here are slightly more expensive than what you will find at goodwill, but I will happily pay a little more for quality, carefully selected items if that means supporting a local business. Especially one that is owned by young people! Love it. I recommend combining a visit here with a trip to Findlay Market, the local food market and vintage clothing shopping make for a particularly pleasant Saturday afternoon.
