This was the best sandwich I’ve ever had. No exaggeration. We just moved back from Florida where they know nothing about bread. It’s a pleasure to be back where they take bread seriously. The multigrain baguette was enormous and perfect. The roast beef was medium rare and thin and piled high. The greens and tomato and onion were fresh and plentiful. Then oil and vinegar with herbs. It was fabulous. I ate every bite and I’m not sorry.

Great deli! I had ham and salami on multigrain and it was filled with meat and the bread was super hearty. They have lots of pasta salads and other homemade dishes too. I will say I wasn’t a big fan of the seasoning on the ranch pasta salad but the crab salad is super good! They also had big soft cookies that I believe are made by a local baker. Good selection of drinks(wine and beer included) and wonderful service as well! There are a few tables inside and a couple outdoors. Free wifi.

Carl’s is a great little deli. It’s a small place but they have a huge selection of sandwiches and salads. I went with a hot roast beef and provolone on a baguette. It was one of the better sandwiches I’ve had in a while. There was a ton of meat and cheese and the bread was perfectly toasted. The Italian vinaigrette they put on the sandwiches was really good. They have a lot of pasta and potato salads too if that’s your thing. I love their selection of sodas including black cherry and cream soda. I can’t wait to come back to try the soups and more of the sandwiches.

I love this place, really good sandwiches, also have really good coffee. I always get the roast beef and provolone toasted on a baguette. There’s a few tables outside, great spot when the weather is nice.

I dig this spot. Chill local almost-dive, but it’s clean and cozy. They have a huge selection of fixings, fun drinks, chips/snacks, mustards, bread, etc. Order from the menu or build your own dream sandwich. Reasonable pricing and friendly staff means that there is usually a line extending out the door. There are a few small tables inside and some seating outside as well, or you can pick up to go. If you want to meet half the people in the neighborhood, set up at a table here on a weekend mid-morning/afternoon. It’s like a singles bar, but with sandwiches instead of alcohol. Only they also have wine. Check out their coupon in Hyde Park Living: buy one, get one sandwich! They also have great hours!

A small beautiful deli! The food is amazing and fresh and they use fresh local ingredients. The service is top notch here and very friendly. I had the #6. Cab and artichoke on a croissant, it was delicious! I will definitely be coming back here for lunch on a regular basis.

Carl’s is such a gem! I am so lucky to be close enough to walk to this place. The breakfast croissant is amazing and the atmosphere is cozy and very much like a small deli and market. They have a lot of different sandwiches to choose from — I usually get mine on their croissant, so good! And they are humongous, so you don’t feel like you’re getting ripped off. They have a lot of sides to choose from and also have ice cream! I love Carl’s!

I’ve now had Carl’s a couple of times and have really liked it both times. I especially appreciate how there are so many options and you can be as healthy or not-so-healthy as you’d like. In addition to the sandwich board, which has a ton of options, you can build your own by choosing any kind of bread, deli meat(s), cheese, and condiments. There are also a number of salads(including but not limited to broccoli and potato salad) you can get on the side, as well as macaroni and cheese, chips, or Jeni’s ice cream. Service has always been efficient, which makes for a great overall experience. I am still waiting to get something I truly love, but I will keep going back until I do, which really says something.

Carl’s Food Shop is the perfect place to stop in for a quick lunch or dinner when out and about in Hyde Park. They have a wide selection of sandwich combos that you would find at any great deli. COLUMBUSPEEPS: They have Jeni’s Ice Cream. You’re welcome.

Boyfriend picked this up for lunch on a lazy Sunday and I was pleasantly surprised! I got the crab artichoke sammy on croissant with a cup of the tomato florentine soup and a side of the broccoli salad. all were excellent and crazy fresh. The crab/artichoke was so creamy(it is artificial crab, fyi) and was OK to me, I think it had a bit too much mayo. Tomato soup was great, loved that it had pasta shells in it as well and the broccoli salad was sooo flavorful and had bacon. yum, bacon! I stole some of my boyfriend’s mac and cheese and loved that too. Even though my particular sandwich wasn’t the best, I would definitely eat here again just because all of their ingredients were so fresh and am looking forward to try their other sandwiches and selections. so many to choose from!

I LOVED this little shop. There were so many sandwiches to choose from, and there was even an option to design your own sandwich. I could have eaten there for weeks and not run out of options. While the sandwiches were amazing, the sides were probably even better. I had a liver sandwich(that tastes better than it sounds) and pasta salad, and both were so fresh and so amazing. The meal sounds simple, but it really was the best sandwich I have had in Cincinnati. The staff was really friendly and patient as my head was spinning from all the amazing looking food.

These are awesome sandwiches. I usually call ahead and my order is ready within 5 minutes. They sometimes could be a bit friendlier, but couldn’t we all? There’s a $ 5 minimum on credit cards, but you won’t have a problem spending at least that amount. They also carry beer, wine and some snacks. A nice little shop to have in the neighborhood.

This place is so cute! I’ve stopped in for carry out sandwiches a couple times on Sunday afternoons, and despite the long line, it moves really quickly. I’ve tried a few different items from the menu and every one is fantastic. That does make it difficult to decide, but that’s a nice problem to have, right? Basically there’s a massive board with dozens of things to choose from, and then a glass fridge area with pre-made salads, etc. I hear they source a lot of stuff locally, which I like as well. Great locally owned place with convenient location and parking, can’t recommend it enough.

Carl’s Deli is a cute little spot on the corner of Observatory and Monteith in Hyde Park. I’ve been here a few times and the sandwiches and salads have all been delicious. They also carry chips and cookies from local spots as well as beer and wine. However, you can’t drink the alcohol in the store or outside on a cute little table; they only you to eat their food or non-alcoholic beverages. I always get my sandwiches run ‘through the garden’ as I love extra veggies which they will do for no charge. The bread is also fresh and they have numerous choices of white and whole grain. Service is ok. I feel like I always come at an off time as the people putting my food together always seem tired and slightly annoyed I don’t know what I want immediately. But come on, with this many options I have to think a little! Stop in for a quick dinner or lunch, you won’t be disappointed.

I’ve lived in Hyde Park for about a year, have walked past this place an endless amount of times with my dog, and today, for the first time, I finally decided to give it a try. I’m so glad I did! The inside was almost like a small little grocer; they had chips, drinks, wine, and beer. And they had one of my all time favorites – Ale-8−1(a Kentucky soft drink). I knew it was going to be good. I perused the menu online before walking down, but I didn’t make a decision until I was actually saying my order. I went with #18-Hot Pastrami & Pepper Cheese on Rye With 1000 Island & Cole Slaw and a few minutes later I was on my merry way. Everything about the sandwich was delicious and one I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or order again. I can’t wait to work my way through this menu and to bring my friends to this little neighborhood gem!

This place is so cute! The sandwich selection is awesome! They really have everything and them some! Including a peanut butter and jelly! :) Also, to name a few. crab and artichoke, a classic turkey and bacon with Swiss, roast beef and provolone. That’s only 3 out of the 32 they offer! Of course chips, pickles, and other sides to choose from. A must try!

My fiancé and I were walking the dog last weekend when we got suddenly very hungry. We happened to be near Hyde Park Square so we stopped at Carl’s, which is just a couple block off the square on Observatory. When we walked in, this place is just too cute! It seems like a very nice, local deli and sandwich shop. But they also have a lot more seating inside than I expected! There was seating inside for at least 8 tables. And they even have beer and wine, but they won’t let you drink it there, you have to take it to go. We ordered sandwiches off of their huge sandwich list. I got the chicken salad on a croissant, and my date got the hot pastrami with cole slaw. My sandwich was just ok… I liked the chicken salad, but it wasn’t anything special. His sandwich was amazing(I kinda had food envy for that delicious pastrami sandwich). We also got the potato salad on the side. We grabbed our food and sat outside with the dog… It’s so nice that they have outdoor seating! Our meal, with both of our drinks, came out to less than $ 20 which felt like a good value to me. After lunch we went back in to grab a cookie to go, and it was also delicious(we got the chocolate chip M&M cookie because DUH). We will definitely be coming back to Carl’s next time we need an easy lunch or dinner!

Carl’s has it all! You can get any kind of sandwich you could ever dream up, choose from one of their 30 menu sandwiches or create your own on a variety of breads. I had the #1 and it was perfectly made and all the components were delicious including the croissant, but it was huge! It could have easily been split between 2 people with some sides. They have tons of options for sides too. Your order to go can be packaged up and could be easily taken for a picnic, which is something I want to do asap. They’ve even got beer and wine. I plan to come back again and again.
