Cincinnati Playhouse In The Park

Nothing changed in my rating, it is still as good as it gets! I just saw To Kill A Mockingbird and it was outstanding! They had the most minimalist stage I’ve seen there, but the actors and the direction of the show stayed incredibly true to the storyline! I loved the adaptation! When the lights came down for intermission, the sound crew perfectly timed it to the sound of the judges gavel and vice versa with the lights going down after intermission. The characters were excellent and at the end of the play I was one of many attendees drying my eyes. The book is my favorite and they did it a solid!

Have to give a solid five to the venue. At the top of the hill in the ivory tower– the setting of the venue alone is gorgeous. I took the Mrs. to a play a friend was in and we really enjoyed the set and the play. My wife didn’t necessarily like the food but I think she just had different expectations. I’ve been here a few times and love the arts. I will continue to support places like this. Being from Chicago where theater is HUGE it’s nice to have a similar experience in my adopted city. This place is pretty hard to get to if you don’t know where to look. Parking for the events is $ 10 but there is street parking and steps that take you right up to the entrance of the playhouse.

Had a great first experience here. Being in Mt. Adams, it’s good there’s a large parking garage/​lot on the site for accessibility. Very walkable to bars/​restaurants before or after the show. There’s great food and drinks option within Playhouse, catered by Vonderhaar’s. The theater itself probably doesn’t have a bad seat. It’s large but feels intimate. I sat near the front on the right side and you feel very close to the actors. Highly recommend a show here.

I was here as member of the play lowdown dirty blues, the crew and staff here in my opinion were professionals and top notch ! Made my 2 month stay go bye as a breeze, it’s a beautiful venue set in a beautiful location atop the lovely mount Adams with views of beautiful downtown Cincinnati ! A great place to see a play are just hang !

If you think the prices are high please see what you get. I try to see at least two shows a year and I am never disappointed. The staff and ushers go out of their way to be helpful.

I must say that three recent shows have made a huge impact on me for their quality.
Peter and the Starcatcher was a true delight. Creatively staged, well acted. Just great fun!
The Secret Garden likewise was such a fine show. The minimal set was all that was needed — it allowed such fluid staging. A great experience in the theater.
And costumes for both (really, ALL) shows were top drawer.
Finally, Mad River Rising was so well done. And the set was simply amazing. We were transported to a barn. So realistic!

Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike! What a great play! The show was hilarious and the cast was fantastic! I laughed so much the whole time and at no point was my attention not directed toward the stage. The set itself was extremely good and really helped you feel like you were peeking in on someone else’s life.
This particular play was in the Marx Theatre. The seating is quite good and I doubt there is a bad seat in the house. With steep stadium seating in a semicircle every seat has a good view. We arrived just a moment late and so we sat at the furthest back and highest row near the side and the view and sound was still great. Later at intermission we moved down to our seats much closer to the stage and I have to admit that the far back seats were so good that there wasn’t even a huge difference in my opinion.
I enjoyed this experience so much that I will definitely return to watch more plays in the future. I highly recommend picking out a show and attending. Almost guaranteed you will want to return.

Playhouse in the Park is truly a beautiful place. It’s nestled in the woods of Eden Park which means it kind of is like a «hidden gem.» Maybe? It had been years since I’d been inside of the playhouse. After attending a play recently with a group of friends, I got to experience the playhouse again. Inside is super modern and beautifully decorated. I really appreciate how well-​maintained it was. The staff was helpful and really seemed happy to be there. The play we saw was titled «Buzzer» which was quite entertaining. I really enjoyed my time at Playhouse in the Park and glad I got to go. On my way out, I grabbed a few brochures to look over. I’ll be picking out another play soon to check out at this fantastic playhouse.

We bought a package of 5 – 6 shows this year and absolutely love it. Everyone is very friendly when you arrive, and the talent is unbelievable. I have a new level of respect for the actors/​actresses, and the musicians.
Every show begins with a warm welcome from the Playhouse director, who also takes the time before, during intermission, and after the show to meet with everyone — now that is a director that CARES about his customers.
I strongly recommend buying a parking pass when you get your ticket. Parking can be difficult, and it is a good walk up the hill if you park on the street. Plus, if you arrive a bit early, you can park and then walk down to Mt Adams to eat.
Drinks and food at the Playhouse are reasonably priced — very nice.
I have attended shows in the big room and the shelterhouse, both are great. The show to attend, hands-​down, is the annual Christmas Carol. It is a great production that gets you in the spirit of Christmas like no other. Highly recommend!

This place is such an awesome venue! It is intimate yet spacious, there are really no bad seats.
Everything I have seen here has been high quality. There are a ton of unique shows throughout the year so you can go numerous times every year and be entertained.
Staff is wonderful, concessions are delicious, and there is usually an opportunity to meet the cast after the show. If you don’t want to pay for parking and are somewhat familiar to Mt. Adams it is pretty easy to find parking on nearby streets.

I adore Playhouse. We just saw Christmas Carol and I was pleasantly reminded that there is not a bad seat in the house! Though a costly holiday tradition for a larger family, it is worth it. (Keep in mind when you are buying the seats online that you can shop around for different price points.)
I can only hope that the actor that plays Scrooge stays around for awhile longer! He’s phenomenal AND hilarious! Plus the amount of energy that man brings to the show is contagious! I’m relatively certain he has been around for quite some time (over 15 years), so don’t wait too long to see him in case he decides to retire!

Really liked this theater. It’s a great layout with an inviting lobby and place to mingle. And parking garage was super easy. Tip: buy online. Saves $ 2 and guarantees a space. Lot was sold out. As for my experience, I got a seat in Row L. This is the first row on the 2^nd tier of the theater on the left. Now for my feedback: the statement «there’s not a bad seat in the house probably comes from people sitting in the middle of the theater. In section L, there is a concrete wall directly in front of you. There is no room to cross your legs and no room to stretch out even a touch. Furthermore, if you are situated on the side of the theater, you cannot see the back of the stage, unless the stage is fully exposed. I saw Sherlock Holmes. A+ for acting and set design. Loved it. Actor’s mic’s seemed a little low, but I’m a little deaf. Lol. Anyway, because of the set design, those seated on the side could not see the rear of the stage. Fortunately, the majority of the play takes place in the foreground so it did not matter. Ultimately this did not hinder my enjoyment of the play. I must admit though I wish I had acted earlier and purchased more centrally located seats.

Went to the Playhouse for A Delicate Ship. It was in the Shelterhouse, a very intimate venue. Our seats were six rows up, center, with a great view. With the stage open on three sides, I don’t think there’s a bad seat in the house. Interesting, thought-​provoking performance with only three actors that lasted 90 mins. with no intermissions. Well done! We got there just in time for the performance. Wish we had been early enough to have a glass of wine beforehand. Looked like you could bring them into the performance which is nice.
Gave them one star less because the parking bottlenecked and we almost did not make it in time. Pre-​pay for parking and it is $ 5 instead of $ 10.

Caught many a weekend matinée show here over the years, and had fun chit chat sessions with the cast after the show. The size of the Shelterhouse Theatre is perfectly conducive to the audience interaction that constitutes many of the performances here.

I went here as part of a class assignment. I loved all the modern architecture incorporated throughout the entire building. The theatre was a good size.
I saw Double Indemnities, I had no idea what to expect but I ended up loving it. The set design was simple but it got the point across. We got to go on a backstage tour afterwards and learn more about the Playhouse.
I would definitely go back here if I lived closer!

Had season tix to several of best rep theaters in San Francisco but blown away by Ed’s artistic direction here. Rivals La Jolla Playhouse, ACT, Berkeley Rep. Bravo.

I grew up in Cincinnati my entire life and didn’t come here until a few months ago. What an awesome place! I love the set-​up and the theaters, not to mention both productions I saw were excellent. I used my ETA pass for one (the people at the front desk were incredibly accommodating as I forgot to call ahead!) and was at a Unilocal elite event for the other. It’s a great place to come for a fun relatively inexpensive date nite and makes you feel like you’ve travelled somewhere and are no longer in Cincinnati (Mt. Adams has a way of doing that to you in general :)
Very fun, I would absolutely come back and have no problem paying full price for tickets!

I absolutely love Playhouse in the Park. A fantastic venue with two stages that offers a great variety of shows all year long.
I’ve seen two shows in the Marx Theatre, the larger auditorium. Both were GREAT productions. And I’ve seen one show in the smaller theatre, which was a dress rehearsal, but still a great show.
The staff here is always super friendly and willing to help with any questions you may have. Parking is a breeze with an adjacent garage.
I highly recommend seeing a show here if you haven’t done so already!

Ive lived in Cincinnati and have yet to check out Playhouse in the Park and this week I had the pleasure of visiting TWICE!
The first show was in the smaller theater room, its a very intimate setting and you felt really connected to the actors, I sat next to the gentleman who maybe runs the programing and you could tell he was proud to call this place home and his excitement for the performance was highly unpretentious.
The second show was Brighton Beach Memoirs in the larger theater, not a poor seat in the house. The set design was beautiful and you can tell the Playhouse values making each performance a top notch experience for each of their shows.
Judging by the upcoming shows it looks like they bring in a great diversity of shows, something for everyone! As for ticket prices, they are listed kind of pricy but getting your hands on discounted tickets seems to be fairly easy. Drinks/​food are a plenty with numerous options and drinks are allowed into the theaters. Restrooms were clean and seats were comfy. Parking was a bit steep at 10bucks in the lot but I easily found a spot on the street.
I look forward to checking out more shows here in the near future!

How have I not written a review for Playhouse in the Park?!
Playhouse is one of those near and dear places in my heart. Some of my fondest childhood memories are coming here with my family during the holidays to see, «A Christmas Carol.» We would all get dressed up in our Sunday bests, go to church together and then see this show.
I have seen a number of plays here besides A Christmas Carol and each has had its own unique characteristics, and a reason to love them. Honestly I have not seen a bad performance here. I love the feeling of live theater and I don’t think people are exposed to it enough.
I was just here to see «The Three Musketeers» and it made me feel like a kid all over again. In fact, I even got my picture taken on their little interactive piece of Art where you stick your head in as the «third musketeer.» They usually always do something fun like that in the lobby to tie in to their shows.
Speaking of the lobby. It’s stunning! The building itself is a work of art. High ceilings with beautiful draped canvases of their current’s season’s shows on them. They have a full service bar and the champagne splits are only 7 bucks! They also have a new artistic director this year and he changed the rule that you are allowed to bring drinks into the theaters this year to make you feel more comfortable. He is my new favorite person! Let’s see how long this rule lasts, don’t spill and ruin it for everyone people!
Their shows change fairly quickly so you don’t get bored, and there really is something for everyone here. All in all this is a wonderful, beautiful, fun, rich and cultural experience that everyone should see at least once in their life!
