Specialties

The Requiem Project at The Emery aims to open a space that allows for access and opportunity to participate in all stages of the creative-process. Walking through the halls of the Emery could include hearing music lessons on the stage, observing children’s dance classes, writing salons, gallery openings, film-nights, teacher-development workshops in yoga and pilates, and seeing world-class live musical and theatre presentations in a historic auditorium. It is a commitment to re-enlivening Mrs. Mary Emery’s hundred year-old passion for Cincinnati’s timeless love for the arts and her donation of The Emery to Cincinnati as a place for ‘civic betterment.’ The Requiem Project’s dedicated mission is to resurrect Mrs. Emery’s belief that high-quality art inspires individuals and communities to invest in themselves and that inclusion and respect lead to a better society. Everyone has a voice and the Emery, literally and metaphorically, should be a place not only to listen but also to be heard.

History

Established in 2009.

Due to the unfortunate and preventable death of Ms. Manchise’s mother Lynn Manchise, Tara Gordon and Tina Manchise were forced to reevaluate the feasibility of continuing their work together in New York. They were faced with the possible necessity of relocating their professional home base due to the needs of Tina and her commitment to her family. In the midst of evaluating the feasibility of staying in New York City, Tara and Tina serendipitously crossed paths with The Emery Theatre in Cincinnati; it was as if though they were guided to her door. The Emery, dormant for over a decade, is a world-class theatre that was bequeathed by Mrs. Mary Emery to the city of Cincinnati to honor the city’s timeless love for music. This acoustically-pure theatre in Cincinnati’s Over-the-Rhine has been silent and vacant for far too long.
