This is a review of the Hubbard Swim School which apparently is the subcontractor at Kids First Sports Center to teach swimming. It’s pretty pricey, we were paying $ 17 for a 25 minute group lesson. Each instructor has about three to five kids and runs two sessions per hour, so as they’re collecting over $ 120/hour per instructor, you’d expect that you are getting high quality instructors concerned about your child’s progress. Not so. In the four months our child was enrolled she had three different instructors, none over the age of 17. They were good enough to keep our kid from drowning, so they’ve got that going for them but progress was excruciatingly slow, if the instructor could tell us what was going on at all. The Hubbard Swim School was very professional about collecting our money and enforcing their policies. They even have a call center in Arizona — your local phone call is routed to Arizona, they are apparently not a local company. The AZ call center took a message of our concerns and promised to have the local manager return our calls but that didn’t happen. I think next summer, we’ll find our own certified instructor and pay them for private lessons in our pool.

LOVELOVELOVE Kid’s First! Why didn’t my parents take me to hilarious classes featuring anything you could ever want in your life? Oh yeah cuz our generation played in a pile of dirt. These days kids need interaction! This place has what you need. The Tumblebees program(gymnastics) is amazing. Two or three teachers per group, really nice individual attention. You can also get private classes in pretty much anything. Great establishment, those other phony gyms have nothing on this place. Keep on rockin in Kid’s First!

More and more often today we are seeing these mega gyms, catered to meet all of your sports and fitness needs. They are the biggest and nicest facilities, but what about a place dedicated to kids? The Kids First Sports Center does just that, offering many great opportunities for kids to get started in their first sports and activities. Kids First isn’t just about the very smallest of kids, but I feel that attracting young kids to doing gymnastics or soccer or swimming for the first is its best asset. At a place where they offer basketball instruction, and soon to have football and baseball too, there’s almost no question that the most competitive athletes will find the right program for them elsewhere. Starting kids young, however, at a place that has almost everything is what Kids First is all about. When I was in seventh and eighth grade I played in a summer basketball league at Kids First. The competition was a lot tougher than I would have expected, but unfortunately they no longer host that league there. They do have some instruction from a former NBA player, Ronnie Grandison(he only scored 254 points in four years), but by no means is basketball the focus of Kids First – just one option. What Kids First really specializes in is gymnastics. It is the home to competitive high school gymnastics classes, the local favorite Queen City Gymnastics, as well as options for younger kids: Tumble Bees, Gym Jam, and TnT(trampoline and tumbling). The gyms are huge and are great not only for instruction, but also for hosting birthday parties. My cousins had one there a few years ago and it was a lot of fun. Kids First also has a nice indoor pool, and they also are home to Charlie Cooke/Coerver Coaching soccer instruction, which is known around the country. Don’t forget the cheerleading, dance, and karate too, as well. Kids First also has a salon, gift shop, snack bar, and even is a place to get a massage. Most athletes will never make it on to ESPN’s SportsCenter, but come to the Kids First Sports Center and at least give them a shot. The facilities are great and the employees are dedicated to ensuring that kids have fun doing the many activities they offer.
