Petey’s Pet Stop

We have had excellent experiences at Petey’s for our two dogs, and have used them for grooming, baths and use of the self-​bathing stations in the store. They have gone the extra mile and brought minor health concerns to our attention, and the dogs always seem happy to be there. Petey’s is a welcome addition to the Clifton Business community.

My mother in law took her little dog here last week for the first time, she had always gone to Bow Wow in Oakley, they treat the dogs wonderfully and are very experienced, but this opened up close to her house. She does not have Unilocal and asked me to post this review. Her dog Abby is the sweetest little mix, everyone in lower Clifton knows and loves her. I can objectively say that because it’s not even my dog, but I have spent tons of time with her and watched her. I own two high maintenance dogs and owned a dog sitting business so I’m extremely experienced with dogs. When she picked her up, they said she snapped at them twice so they had to put a muzzle on her (which they charged her $ 10 extra for??). This dog has NEVER snapped at anyone, she is the sweetest, most good natured dog in the world, I can only imagine they were not treating her nicely or handling her well. When she got there, her dog was so strung out and stressed, and this dog is never stressed. My mother in law is never going back. They also completely shaved her when she asked them to keep her hair short, I saw her and it looks terrible. I have a passion for dogs and people who treat them well, I also groom my own dogs and I know the only time they get ansty is if I’m (unintentionally) hurting them. Too bad for Clifton, we were excited to have a dog grooming place here.

We took our very sweet pit-​bull here on Halloween when they had a special on nail trimming. They were very good to her and very quick, and I ended up bringing my brother’s dog over right after. They have a great selection of high quality dog food as well.

I’m so grateful to have a place like Petey’s in the neighborhood. First of all, it’s a hoot whenever Petey himself is in the office, because he’ll jump up and put his front paws on the counter when you walk in, like he’s going to be the one to help you with whatever you need. Second, it’s really convenient to have pet supplies, grooming, and boarding within walking distance, especially because my dog doesn’t like car rides. And third, Beth and Linda are extremely friendly and accommodating, and you can just tell how much they love animals and are committed to the community.
We used to take our dog to a larger, well known boarding facility — and they are great too, don’t get me wrong — but honestly the prices kept creeping up without any upgrade in the perks or facilities. Now with Petey’s just around the corner, offering us complete flexibility with pickup/​dropoff, and personalized attention for our dog (because they only board 4 – 6 at a time right now), it’s hard to justify going anywhere else. We left our dog at Petey’s over the weekend and he did great. He also enjoys randomly stopping into the store to say hi.
(Note: For a short boarding stay, our costs at Petey’s vs. the larger place are about the same. For a longer stay, Petey’s would save us a significant amount.)
I have also started to buy dog food from Petey’s, since the prices are the same as what I would pay at the grocery store or pet store chains, but Petey’s offers free home delivery within the neighborhood!
My only wishes would be for them to sell cheaper dog waste baggies, maybe have a bulk treat bar like Petco’s, and for them to be able to stock/​order crickets for our gecko. But those are niche needs that certainly don’t impact my overall positive impression of Petey’s!
