History
Established in 1902.
The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences was born from a tradition of caring. In 1888, soap maker, James N. Gamble, invited missionary, Ms. Isabella Thoburn, to Cincinnati to train deaconesses to carry on religious, educational, and philanthropic work. The Gamble family named the endeavor The Elizabeth Gamble Deaconess Home Association in honor of Mrs. James Gamble, who had dedicated her life to Cincinnati’s needy. Beginning with a ten-bed hospital named Christ’s Hospital, the Association trained only deaconesses as nurses, but soon recognized the need for enrolling other qualified young women. This paved the way for the formation of The Christ Hospital School of Nursing in 1902. For over 113 years, the School grew in size and sophistication, transitioning in 2006 to a fully accredited college. The Christ College of Nursing and Health Sciences continues to pursue excellence in healthcare education, offering bachelor and associate level nursing degrees.
