I wanted a simple shoulder length cut and that’s what i got from Helen. I chose her because she has the same name as my aunt. Lame i know but it’s the truth.
I love hair stylists that actually listen to their clients instead of incorporating their own ideas. Total came out to under 50 bucks for a wash and cut. RSVP required.
Located on the second floor inside puente hills mall. Love the layout. It’s like an open kitchen but in salon form. Open salon. Cute.
I loved my hair. Perfect length. I felt like an airhead. Figuratively speaking. Hair really does makes a difference.

Came to this salon to get my sister’s hair ready for prom and it was an absolute disaster. She had a picture of a simple prom do, free flowing curls and a braid across the middle. The stylist, Sally, decided to crimp the hair and said it was for volume and texture, but at the end did not even hide it! It really looked like a poorly hidden weave. When we told her we were unhappy with the outcome in the end she proceeded to say it was due to the texture of my sisters hair, and the atrocious creation was «style.» Not coming back again.
If you don’t feel comfortable with the complexity of someone’s hair please don’t attempt.

Came in for a pretty standard make haircut, walked out with a lopsided cross between a Mohawk and a mullet. Needless to say I won’t be returning.

I was wrong about this place… Or shall I say wrong about this particular stylist. The stylist ruined my hair. She went with my request without fully understanding my hair. My perm turned out to be nothing like what I had described to him/​her. Before starting the process, I showed pictures, explained and described. The stylist confirmed that she/​he knew exactly what I was talking about and assured me that the result would be great…
Well it turns out it was the worst perm ever!
I will never come back to this stylist ever again.

I have been coming to this salon for about 10 years now. Helen is my go-​to lady for haircut. She always knows how to cut and style my hair. Sometimes I bring a photo for her to copy and she can always cut my hair better to suit my hair type and face shape. I pay about $ 60 including tip. I don’t dye or perm my hair so I can’t comment on their other services.

Not ashamed to say that I’ve practically grew up going to this hair studio, even before it moved to its current location! Although I don’t live in SoCal anymore, I still faithfully (so far) pay a visit once a year to have my hair permed here by Helen. No, really, I think I’ve come down 4 years YTD annually getting my hair done here.
Helen does an impeccable job and makes sure that every step is executed perfectly. The type of perm that I do is a digital perm, so each lock of hair is curled and heated with individual wires. The bill isn’t cheap, but it’s well worth the price, since I can wake up with my hair always looking great without any extra styling to do in the morning. I always get compliments from coworker and friends, and they all mistaken it as being naturally curly! Oh I wish it were so!
But in all seriousness, I highly recommend Helen getting your hair done. Her perms are great and well worth the investment.

This review is for Jin. I only go to her, so I can’t say anything about the others. I’ve gone to her regularly for over 2 years now. She’s cut my hair, permed it, and colored it. I’ve even come in with pictures of hairstyles and she’s done a great job at replicating it to fit me. If you want a meticulous hair cut/​style, ask for Jin.

I usually dye my hair myself, but I decided to let Helen dye it. poor life decisions. I got a strange highlight job done before from her, so I was wary ever since (it didn’t become the right color). Halfway through her assistant took over. Her assistant didn’t seem to know what she was doing, and couldn’t follow instructions. My skin turned red that night, and a couple days later started peeling. I visited a dermatologist, and they told me the dye was probably left on for too long. Certain dyes can have chemicals that are too harsh for sensitive skin.
I’m changing my previous review to one star, because of their terrible customer service. Helen was very apologetic, but the owner Jimmy was rude. He did not care at all and told me «it happens a lot» but «it wasn’t a big deal» and that «it’ll probably heal in another two weeks or so». When I asked for a refund for just the hair dye (not the haircut as well) he replied «there are no refunds, it probably wasn’t that expensive. why don’t I offer you a free haircut instead?» So. you’re offering me $ 40 of credit for a $ 60 hair dye AFTER you chemically burned me. Lol because this is the type of customer service makes people want to come back.
I came here for you to take care of my hair, not to pay you $ 120 to burn my face and neck! Oddly enough this isn’t the first burn from them either. I came here for Prom to get my hair styled and JoJo burned my forehead with a curling iron. The skin turned gray later and fell off. I’m done with this place (as well as my sisters, and all the friends I’ve brought here)

First time here today, Sunny was my hair stylist. I did not know what kind of hair style I want, just want to keep my long hair. So I asked him to recommend for me. At the end, I looked into the mirror and were pleased with my new hair style. Would definitely come back.
Plus reasonable price.

I usually prefer not to go to salons that’s inside a mall, but I was desperate for a bang trim since I didn’t have time to get one before leaving on vacation. All I have to say was that this is probably the BEST bang trim of my life. Sunny was my artist & I did notice that it wasn’t just a quick cut, he spent extra time giving my bangs all these little details that I’ve always wanted, but never knew how to explain. Yes, it did took longer than your typical 5 minutes bang trim, but like I said; it was the BEST bang trim ever! I will definitely try getting a haircut here or something the next time I’m around this area.
The salon itself seem to be very Asian orientated which I like because we all know that nobody cuts Asian hair better than Asian people.

I went to the mall with my friend, not expecting to get my hair cut. I walked up to the salon to look at the prices, and i was greeted by Sunny. He was SUPER nice and funny. I told him that I was thinking of chopping off my hair (pixie cut short; the shortest I’ve gone was to my shoulders). I showed him some pictures, and he said he was ready to go! haha He was full of energy which persuaded me to just get it cut. He was joking with my friend and I, which made me feel so much better! He was very supportive, comforting, and encouraging because he knew I was scared. He explained what he was doing, and he also gave me tips after he was done on how to style my hair. He made my decision so much easier, and i love my hair! I would DEFINITELY go back :)

After not having my haircut for more then a year I decided it was time for something new. My hair was in horrible condition and I had some crazy split ends so I decided to make an appointment with Jimmy after finding Focus Hair Studio through Unilocal.I found that he was spoken highly of so I decided to make an appointment with him and I wasn’t disappointed.
I had made an appointment on Saturday and Jimmy was free the next day. When I arrived he was working on another client but I only had to wait for about 5 minutes until I was getting my hair washed by a woman that also worked at the salon (I regret that I didn’t get her name). Overall it felt amazing! I could’ve fell asleep at that point. She really made sure to wash my hair thoroughly all while massaging my scalp. Ahh it felt so nice. I’ve had my hair washed at several other salon’s including the overpriced «Regis Salon» and this was the best that i’ve had so far.
I thought Jimmy did a wonderful job on my hair. I had shown him a picture of what I wanted and I like how he didn’t copy it exactly and focused more on what looked the best for the shape of my face. He asked for what I wanted and always kept it in mind while cutting my hair. He cut off about 4 inches and then I requested layers. It turned out even better than I expected! He focuses on all the little details and really took the time to make sure it was perfect and that both sides were symmetrical. He is also very nice and makes you feel comfortable. He even offered drinks, tea and magazines too! Overall it was a relaxing experience and I will definitely come back.
I admit I have been scarred for life cause with my luck every single time i’ve gone to a salon i’ve walked out unhappy. This was the first cut that i’ve ever gotten that I was happy with! I’ve also gotten so many compliments!

This is the place I will stick to for sure. Sally did a great job on my hair.
Just wanna have my hair done so bad when I Was shopping in the mall today. Yes, I am a woman. Sometimes I do things with no reason. Lol. First time met Sally here, there are like at Least 8 stylists in the salon. Have to say it’s hard to pick. And have no idea who does better job. Again… I am a woman. I make decision with woman’s feeling… Yes, I made a good choice. She didn’t disappoint me at all… I love it. Sooo much.

A few days ago, I went shopping to Macy’s in puente hills mall. I saw focus hair studio. I’ve been cutting my hair for about two months. I had no appointment and I was soon got David’s care .
I showed him the style photo that i liked, he tried to accommodate to the style that i wanted and made great suggestions that may best fit me, he definitely took his time cutting and styling my hair, he did it better than the photo, I’m pretty satisfied. That day I also knew that David has styled for more than one hundred movie stars from China, HongKong and Taiwan. He is a very experienced hair stylist!

been here once it was good experience for my daughter. i however go in friday and am getting highlights on my short hair. charge $ 100.00 only highlights no cut… and i was going to ask a other beautician a question. she said no talk to your hair cutter. walks away. how f… rude. this morning i call they hang up on me!!! nothing good about this place… rude chinese people i have ever met…
go in here!!! want abuse. treat like crap i am paying you money a business. you pick and choose who you will treat decent.

Great place. I’ve been coming here sense 2006. Price is average for a hair cut and for dye it is a little pricey but the end result they make sure it looks good. I’ve been going to Jimmy for years now and everytime its a pleasant visit. End result this place is a good place to get a quick cut and freshen up your look.

I came here and had Jimmy.
He’s wonderful at cutting and can tell what makes you look best.
However, he does recommend adding a lot of perms/​treatment that will cost a lot so you have to keep declining him if you don’t want to get it at the current moment. He also does work on 5 heads at once so be prepared to wait.
Oh, also the lady who washed my hair was awesome. She really spent the time to massage my scalp.
Otherwise, he’s really good and one of the best I’ve been to (I’ve been to D2 and Salon Shag and one other Japanese place in West LA). I definitely will be back. Maybe to even get a digital perm that he so highly recommended. Price was $ 40. Very reasonable.

Jojo was just brilliant, I had spent the last two weeks trying to find a decent salon to cut my hair short again. I didn’t want to go to D2 again and get my hair chopped all jagged and uneven. I passed by this place before when it was still downstairs and now that it has a bigger space and more open to customers I decided to give it a try since I had a Halloween party to go to later that night and wanted a nice hair cut to clean up my mop of thick and unruly hair.
Jojo immediately took me in when I asked if there was a wait as it seemed that there were plenty of customers and they seemed swamped. She told me she could do it right then and there. She took a look at my hair and knew what I needed, a deep conditioning and a lot of loving. ;) I told her I wanted a bob where it’s short in the back and longer in the front and she surprisingly she knew exactly what length to cut it without me telling her, that’s how good she was. She knew what length looked best for my face and it was the same length that I was going to tell her I wanted! She washed my hair and conditioned it well so that my hair wouldn’t feel so bristly after blow drying.
The result was amazing! She thinned out my hair since it was so thick, but not so much that I felt bald. LOL. And the length was exactly what I wanted. She made sure that the thinning wouldn’t cut into my length and that was what I was impressed with. Jojo did a fantastic job and would definitely recommend her and keep me coming back! :)
