History

Established in 1900.

Established in the year 1900 by John J. Jennings, in the «undertaking» service in North Scranton, with a livery service of horse drawn carriages. As years passed the services evolved into the Funeral Home, which was located on West Market Street, Scranton. Mary Jennings, FD (John J. Jennings’s daughter) joined the firm in 1947 continuing the operation of the funeral home. She was one of the first female funeral directors to be licensed in the nation. In 1980, Christopher C. Calvey FD, (great nephew of Mary Jennings) joined the family practice of Undertaking and operated the Funeral Home on West Market Street, in Scranton, Pennsylvania and branched out to acquire the a Funeral Home in Clarks Summit in the same year, 1980.

The funeral service has evolved from the embalming in the family home, wakes at the corpse house, horse drawn coaches, as well as the services provided by our family of funeral directors.
