Nichols Village Hotel & Spa

I have a confirmation email from hotwire for the reservation on these dates. However when I arrived arrived the hotel, the hotel claims that I did not have a reservation through hotwire at this hotel.
Hotel clerk says that hotwire made the reservation for yesterday Sept 4, and when I was no show my reservation was canceled. Hotel clerks Karen and Tina gave a print out of a invoice showing my name with an arrival date of Sept 4 and departure date Sept 5.
Upon questioning whether there’s any open room for the hotel to honor the reservation based on the email confirmation through hotwire, I was told by hotel staff that they had no rooms available and that I should contact hotwire to make the complaint and I should look for another hotel to stay.
This is the first time of me using hotwire more than 10 times that a hotel would not honor a reservation made and confirmed by hotwire.
The following hour and half was pure frustration and an exercise of selfcontrol. Despite an estimated wait time of 27minutes, hotwire telephone customer service never picked up after 1 hour 20minutes. We were forced to book another hotel in the vicinity. It cost us an additional $ 211.41 on top of what we had paid for Nichols Hotel and Spa ($ 122.56). As a physician (myself) who makes $ 100/​hour, and a piano teacher (my wife) who makes $ 50/​hour, a 1.5hour loss may be equated to $ 225.

Booked this hotel to view as a possible wedding venue. Upon check in, my fiancé walked in to an empty lobby and waited 10 minutes for someone to finally check us in.
When we finally arrived to our room, we opened the door to find 2 queen beds. He called down and they said, «that’s all we have available». Even though we had booked a more expensive king room. They advised they’d make sure we received a king room the next night.
Upon further inspection, the room was filthy. The bathroom floor was disgusting. The tub and fixtures gross. The bedspreads wrinkled and did not look clean. These rooms did not look anything like what was advertised on the website. The beds were hard as bricks.
Again we called the front desk, and were told I’m sorry we’ve sold out for the night. There’s nothing I can do.
Ok, well make the best of tonight and get this straightened out in the morning. Right? Wrong…
There was no manager on duty the next morning. The young lady at the desk said they were also sold out that night and that we’d already been charged for our full stay.
At this point, we already had a Spa day booked at the Spa. Plus a day of shopping at the outlets the next day. Not much we can do.
What I can tell you is this…
I would never host a wedding here. This «hotel» is dilapidated at best. The rooms are disgusting and dirty. The hallways are nicer than the actual rooms. The only redeeming quality about this entire property is the spa.
Next…check your billing. They over billed us by $ 200. Our confirmation that came at booking was 1 amount, and what they actually charged was $ 200 higher. For a lesser quality room none the less.
I didn’t even sleep on their sheets or bedding. I brought in my own blankets and pillows from my car because theirs looked dirty and skeeved me out. How this place is still in business is a wonder.

I really wish I could give this hotel a better rating. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. Check in was easy. The hotel is very nice, and so are the rooms. I was actually very surprised at how much I liked the room when I walked in. However, when I used the bathroom sink, the water was gray and foggy. (the shower water was not though) The bed sheets had stains on them, and there was a little mix up with payment at check out.

So I read multiple reviews saying they expected more. I am not sure what they were expecting since this is a hotel and if you do your research, no it is not 5 star… anyway the rooms are very clean and the front desk receptionist, Michelle, was very kind to my daughter and I and we will be staying here in the future. :)

I hate to do this… But it’s gone to crap. I’ve stayed at Nichol’s village three times. Once in the 90’s, once around 10 years ago, and once this week. In the 90’s this place rocked, 10 years ago it was perfectly fine, this week… I wish we had picked the hampton inn. BUT The front desk girl was SO sweet. I asked for a king bedroom and in conversation, i mentioned we were in for a funeral, my gram’s. She gave us a presidential suite. I was psyched because that’s what i had in the 90’s and it was beautiful. Well. It was like i stepped back in time but it aged and i didn’t. The lobby, halls, even the room had a horrible smell, like insecticide. There was plaster all over the halls, the door was blocked by home depot buckets, and the presidential building spa (hot tub) was drained and VERY dirty. The bed was horrible, i couldn’t sleep, understandably, and woke my husband when i scratched my leg… That’s how bad the bed was– we both woke from agitated slumber with back and neck aches. The parking IS plentiful, but there are ominous spots in front of the restaurant with tow signs– yet no valet at the lobby, we left our vehicle because we were exhausted. The front desk girl was GREAT! BUT that’s where it ended.

I have stayed at Nichols Village several times for various occasions and I would have to say up until my most recent stay I thought the hotel was quite decent. The hotel is decent in terms of appearance, food, and quality… depending on what standards you’re comparing it to. What really put me over the edge this past stay was the several staff/​management I encountered during dinner/​cocktail hour. The one managers lack of professionalism and attitude regarding an issue during dinner was appalling. I believe her name was Marissa, but who knows because when I asked the other staff they didn’t even seem to know her name. Just because I am «younger» guest at your hotel and you had prior issues with people my age does not give you the right to treat a guest with ZERO respect. A guest is a guest regardless. When you’re trying to run a business, or hotel for that matter shouldn’t your «paying» guest deserve a little respect when you’re explaining them the hotel policies? It is pretty unfortunate that your staff underneath the manager can handle situations more appropriately without flaring her hands and giving an attitude. Definitely two thumbs down.
Oh and not to mention… there were stains in the carpet of our rooms. Chairs were placed on top of the stains in an attempt to hide them. Furthermore, this strange spa room on the first floor? Had dead black ants all in it… I’m pretty sure you should probably close or lock these rooms if you are renovating it so to say. I can only assume they were/​are «renovating» this room based on what the website says. I could go on and on…
All my advice to you is as a hotel and business, is kindness goes along way. Maybe your guests would overlook some of the negatives or flaws of the hotel if you just show some respect and genuine compassion towards them. How can you operate a hotel effectively if the managers don’t even have patience or respect for the guests?

We have stayed at Nichols Village Inn 5 times. The 1^st time we stayed it was really bad but the former front desk manager was very nice to us and made it up to us. Molly at the front desk was a sweetheart. Last night we stayed again under the 3^rd management change and were treated very rudely and almost not allowed to stay. We have only debit cards and we book thru Expedia some of the time. We were always allowed to leave $ 50 at the front desk for incidentals which we picked up at the desk upon checkout. The manager let us do that because with a debit card it bad. The hotel authorized $ 25 for incidentals against your card. Its can take 7 – 10 days until your bank credits that back to you. This authorization can cause checks to bounce and overdraft fees. I tried to explain it to the rude front desk clerk and she kept saying we needed to give her a debit card with $ 25 free on it. My debit card was actually overdrawn due to an emergency tire purchase. I told the front desk girl we always leave cash at the front desk. She was not cooperating at all and would not call the general manager. This is what happened our 1^st stay in 2013. I got overdraft charges because of this. Finally they were able to take the card and not authorize the $ 25. We went to our room and I left a box of cookies I bought accidentally at the front desk. I called down to ask if the cookies were left on the desk. I was very rudely told they were not. I walked back down to the desk and the cookies were there. They were right in front of the lady that said they were not there. Other problems the AC unit in room 150 didn’t work right. The one computer in the business center didn’t work at all. I tried to print out a restaurant coupon and the printer didn’t work and the lady was kinda real abrupt with us when we checked out. They do not make you feel welcome at all. The indoor pool they pride themselves on often is closed for private parties. I have never been there when the pool was open at night. Also the great breakfast they used to have is only a fraction of what it used to be. It seems like the front desk staff just don’t care much about this property anymore.

2 stars, I’ll reserve a one star review for a hotel where I find vermin. Used this lemon for the night of my wedding, wish I hadn’t. They have an indoor pool, which sold us on picking this joint for the wedding night. We were promised use of the pool and even offered a bartender for the poolside ‘bar’. The day before my wedding we are told the pool has been closed, oops… weren’t you told… oh, someone probably should have…
First sign things were off, a friend of mine called me 2 months before the blessed day and told me that they had tried to convince her that she had the day of our wedding wrong. She argued with them, then gave up and just warned me. A couple a phone calls later that is fixed… they had booked the wrong two nights for the wedding, nothing lethal but there are a half dozen people who need to change their reservations because of their snafu.
The day before the wedding, minutes before the end of the business day they tell us that they had downgraded the included transportation. Instead of enough seats to transport 30 they now only can move about 18. We warned you about this in an email we sent 2 days ago… That never gets fixed, although they did suggest I hire some local limo company for another $ 850. Nice.
I hear they are trying to screw some extra $$ out of my mom who hosted a breakfast for out guests the next morning. Class act, all around.
I could go on, but just look at all of these crummy reviews, they are no accident. Avoid this place if you have the option. I CERTAINLY would never book an event there again.

Just stayed here 3 nights while in town for a wedding, (this was the hotel that was chosen by the couple to be the base hotel). We arrived early, well before the official 3:00 check in time, but the front desk clerk said our 2 standard rooms were available for us and gave us keys. They were doubles as requested. Rooms were clean, properly equipped with linens, etc., bed was comfortable. I travel for business weekly and did not feel this hotel room was terrible or great, just average. I must agree with many of the other reviews that this property is badly in need of updating. Worn and stained carpets, poor lighting, not enough power outlets near desks, peeling caulk in the bathrooms, ‘80s look furniture is showing wear. The hotel seemed quite busy during our stay and the price is not low, so I am not sure where the owners are putting the money, it is obviously not going back into the property.
The free breakfast was great, typical for an independent hotel with cereals, breads and muffins, yogurt, bananas, apples, pop tarts, eggs and a breakfast meat. The breakfast area is a bit small so it gets crowded and stuff runs out but the staff is great and glad to refill the items if you ask nicely. If you need more breakfast go to Waffle House down the street!
The best thing about this hotel is the staff, everyone I encountered was super friendly and helpful. All requests were handled in a timely manner. Rooms were cleaned and made up each day.

Overall a solid 3 stars in my opinion. My wife and I also hosted the wedding rehearsal dinner here and I am going to write a separate review for that now.

We were a little nervous about hosting 70 people for an out-​of-​towner /​rehearsal dinner before my sons wedding due to some negative social media reviews but our concerns were unfounded. Andrea and her staff did an amazing job and made a large group full and happy. Large portions of good food on the buffet, served by friendly and accommodating staff, plus the deserts all got great compliments from our guests. Even last minute requests and changes were handled perfectly. Thank you Nichols Village and staff!

I hosted a bridal shower here this past weekend. I won’t begin to list all of the things that went wrong; the biggest issue was the fact that they RAN OUT OF FOOD! We paid for 68 guests (on a per person basis) and 2 tables of women had nothing to eat but Caesar salad. To add insult to injury, when I asked what the banquet managers solution was, her answer was «I don’t know». Infuriating and unprofessional. Do not bother giving this pace your business.

Stayed in one of the Presidential Suites for 2 nights for a wedding on the property. The room was very spacious with a king bed, and two sink areas. There was a lot of wasted space in the room, which could have benefited from a loveseat or small table/​chairs to fill up some of the dead space and provide additional seating.
The room could have definitely been cleaner. There were stains on both the comforter and sheets of our bed. Additionally, the sheets appeared to have been too small for the bed and would come off the mattress every time someone moved, leaving us face to face with a bare mattress. It was gross.
Every staff member that we encountered was friendly, and the hotel has ample parking. There is a free breakfast, but the options are very limited. In my opinion, we did not receive a value for the price we paid for our room. With plenty of other hotel options in the area, I see no reason to return to Nichols Village.

I stayed here for a ski trip & this place was the equivalent of any standard hotel when it comes to the actual rooms. I was really ticked off because we requested a King or Queen single bed room. Why the heck did we get 2 FULL beds. Also the rooms had adequately sized fridges, but NO MICROWAVE?!?
The food was bad. Over cooked… Under cooked… but breakfast was always good!
The DJ was cool, Karaōke was fun, but Spike Davis was our comedian & he completely bombed. First he was scheduled for 6pm, never showed up. Then around 1am he pops up & starts his show in the middle of our 80’s party. He doesn’t apologize & gets into it with a table that stayed on his arse like white on rice. It made you so uncomfortable that some people left… later someone from our trip found out he was late because he was chillin at another hotel earlier that day. He claimed he had been booked for 11pm… Sir you were still extra late & he made it like he had to fight with the snow to get to us… the regular roads were clear & only our parking lot sucked. This was the worst I had ever seen.
Finally, why was the parking lot not paved even though there was a truck in the parking lot to do so. Our bus was spinning wheels like crazy. I will never go here again.
We made our experience great, this hotel did not!

I usually stay at Nichols Village when I’m in town on business. Unless they upgrade and update soon, I think I need to find other accommodations.
As stated by other guests, the place is generally run down. I stayed in the «Presidential Building.» I’m not sure why this was special and more expensive. The mattress and pillows needed replaced about 2 years ago. When I got into the bed the springs actually made noise. Sleeping on my side was not an option as the bed springs were actually digging into my hips.
My room was clean but there were some moldy spots.
The heating system is antiquated and since it was 3 degrees outside, an extra blanket in the closet would have been nice.
As much as I hate to do it, I think the option for next time in the HI Express on the Scranton/​Carbondale Highway.

Two night weekend stay. Property is nice but rooms are not up to the price level — not many options in this immediate area so local events will fill rooms in the vicinity quickly. Room décor was OK but double bed room was not 2 queens and mattresses appeared comfy but too springy. Down comforter was nice. Bathroom was a bit long in the tooth. Shower tiling was new. Finish on the TP holders were worn, broken or no aerator on sink and hot and cold handles moved in the same direction and were old. Hot water and water pressure were good. Flat screen TV, mini fridge and coffee maker were nice to have in room.

Stayed here with 2 others for a wedding over the weekend. We were supposed to have a room with 2 beds, got into our room to find only 1 + a sleeper sofa. We were told the hotel was overbooked, so there were no other rooms to put us in.
I got stuck with the sleeper sofa. The mattress was so worn down that I was essentially just sleeping on metal springs. I wound up folding the bed back up and sleeping on the couch.
Multiple lights were burned out in the room. The internet was also not working. We called 3 times for extra towels and finally received them after the 3^rd call. We had breakfast both of the 2 days we were there and the food was horrific — eggs were like styrofoam and the bacon was barely cooked.
The only good thing about this stay is that we were comped 1 night when we complained to the front desk about everything that had been wrong with the stay. So many hotels in the area, including some chain hotels right across the street — that’s the way to go for sure!

I stayed here on business over the weekend because I got what appeared to be an insanely great deal on Hotwire for a 3 ½ star hotel in the area.
Well, let’s start off by being clear on a couple of things.
This place is more like a 2 star hotel in the hotel rating scale, with a 3 ½ star appearance on the outside. Quite honestly, in the rooms themselves, the furnishings looked a bit old, the beds weren’t anything special, the bathroom had older fixtures, and the balcony looked like it could really use a coat of paint. Also, in my room I had issues with the door not locking when I shut it the first time. I had to shut it two or three times to get it to lock. The two luggage carts the hotel had were either close to falling apart, or they couldn’t corner worth a damn. And for a hotel that has an appearance of being secure, the fact is that it is not, and if someone on the outside wanted to get into the hotel and walk up to your door for any reason, they could do so easily. Heck, one of the card readers that was on one of the doors that led to a hallway of rooms didn’t even work. Why bother having it there?
But I’ll also say this. I see a lot of reviewers giving this place one star, and I didn’t have a one star experience. Granted, some of the reasons they give for their reviews (such as finding floating gifts in the toilet bowl when they walk in) are inexcusable, and I don’t blame them. I can only speak for my stay. In the end, everything in the room worked for me (with the door exception and that turned out to be just an annoyance). I did get to sleep OK on the bed both nights even if it wasn’t the lap of luxury. My room was clean. The toilet and shower worked. The staff was nice to me. I got what I paid for.
Breakfast was just OK. It hit the spot for a quick coffee and a bagel to get the day started. I wound up getting breakfast at the nearby Waffle House more often.
In the end, let me put it this way… for the deal I got on Hotwire, I was completely satisfied with my stay. If I had paid full price (which was well over twice the Hotwire amount I paid), I’d have been more disappointed in the stay.

This is by far the worst hotel I have ever visited. The 1^st day we arrived, there was left over food in the frig, and fresh chocolate stains on the sheets. Called front desk, and they delivered clean sheets for «us» to change.
Opened the drawer between beds, and there was someone else’s condoms in it… glad we changed the sheets!
3 days later, we get in the room around 6p only to find they didn’t bring ANY washcloths. Called front desk… still no washcloths.
A couple days later, they forgot to put more toilet paper in the room. Called front desk and they said they would have someone bring it… they never showed! This place needs to take lessons from Best Western Plus in Towanda on customer assistance. I’d NEVER spend another dime to live here again!

Checked in with my two kids and headed over to the pool. They had a blast. Got the kids showered up and changed everything is good so far. Beds are comfortable but rooms outdated. Woke up took a shower. Noticed a towel over the shower curtain. I asked the kids if they put it there they told me no. The house keeping left a dirty towel and wash cloth over the shower curtain from a prior guest. Informed the from desk and no response. Never again

We made our reservation via telephone and the gentleman that took it quickly gave us the AAA discount — that about covers the positives! Their online booking system is not well thought out.
When we arrived, the perfectly nice woman in the lobby was seated at a stool with upholstery that was split at the seams. I commented that they should replace it for her to which she replied «they would probably take it away and not replace it» — I guess that was the warning that things would go bad.
As we made our way to the room (143), we passed by the pool which would have been good since we brought our bathing suits, but there were wreaths with candles floating in the pool. A nice decorative element for the wedding reception being held there, but it meant we needed to make other plans — scratch that amenity — I guess they forgot to tell us that when we booked the room.
We got to the room and discovered that the bathroom had been used and not flushed — a fine welcome. The room wasn’t terribly decorated and it was satisfactorily comfortable if you didn’t mind the sound the springs made when you sat or laid down on the bed.
Since we couldn’t use the pool, we opted instead to have a drink next door at Bazil — the hotel room service provider which is connected to the hotel. After a drink, we decided we would get an appetizer at the bar (as others were doing) only we couldn’t get the bartender to bring us a menu so we left.
In the morning we encountered the shower. The shower curtain rod was broken but functional even if it did create a puddle on the bathroom floor. I was the second one to shower and I guess their water heaters have trouble with more than one. Hot water sputtered as the temperature vacillated from warm to cold and my shower ended completely cold — that’s one way to wake up!
The morning was about to be salvaged by what the gentleman on the phone had described as a complimentary hot breakfast that changes daily — wrong! The lobby where the breakfast is held isn’t big enough to seat 20 people. We even would have been okay with bringing food back to the room if it appeared remotely appetizing — it didn’t. I have had many complimentary breakfasts at hotels, ranging from hot to cold and normally tastefully done. This one appeared as though someone threw some crap on a shelf. And there was no hot water for tea. The bottom line is — if you can’t do it right, leave the task to someone who can. You are better off subsidizing a coupon for a discount at a local diner. Thank goodness there are some local Diner’s that were up to the task of cooking breakfast.
It is every hotels dream to be booked to capacity, but using that as an excuse for lack of service and deplorable conditions will eventually leave you with an empty building. Somebody at Nichols Village needs a wake-​up call!

What good can come out of Scranton? Well… this place took me by surprise. As a three star rating… it definitely delivers. Free breakfast, ample parking, quiet and free wiFi… pretty good if you ask me. Oh… and Kim at the front desk is a sweetheart :)
Rooms are a bit dated and washrooms are a bit meh… but clean enough to sleep in without me thinking…“hey…maybe the car can be comfortable…”…lol
Location seems pretty decent… with lots of amenities around here. After a long drive enroute to jersey… this place has not disappointed.
Hoping to get a massage tomorrow… will post on that if I get in under separate cover :)
