Wellington’s Pub & Eatery

This place had been calling to me and my coworkers for a week, taunting us in the mornings and almost imperceptible in the evening blur to get back to the hotel in Dickson City. Well, this evening my coworker and I stopped in for a beer and ended up staying for 3 and dinner.
It feels like a neighborhood bar. A guy comes in. Sits down. The bartender says, «Hey Bill, what’ll it be?» Bill answers and asks her how her day’s been. Etc.
As an outsider, the «stranger» feel was palpable. But no one was unfriendly or rude… just knew we weren’t from the area. It probably didn’t help that I was wearing a UT Longhorn football shirt, too.
The food was ok. I got the broccoli bites and pasta primavera. The broccoli bites were obviously thrown into the fryer straight from the freezer… not fresh made. Similarly, the veggies in the primavera had clearly come from a bag of frozen veggies. And the primavera sauce didn’t have any flavor. It was really just butter and the frozen veggies. Luckily they give you garlic powder, parm, and red pepper. I used all 3.
The beer situation, on the other hand, was pretty impressive, considering the location of this bar in somewhat rural PA. There were about 8 beers on tap, and then they have an entire case of imported and microbrewed beers. I personally went for the Yeungling lager x3 (we can’t get it in TX), but otherwise I might’ve been more adventurous.
It sounds like they regularly have live music. The place has a pool table and a dart board. They also do take-​out orders.
FYI, they post signs about a $ 15 credit card minimum, but the bartender told us that if you don’t spend $ 15, they just charge you an extra dollar for processing. Not too bad. Most of the time bars just won’t let you spend less than the CC min unless you pay with cash.
All in all, a decent place. I’d definitely go back to this place if I lived in the area. Who knows, I may find my way back there in my remaining week in Scranton.
