Kind of awkward and strange shopping center location. Inside is kind of run down too. They have a reasonably priced buffet with good food, though. For Nepalese it has mainly Indian-style food, the rest is missing.

Seriously, this place is incredible. If you enjoy Indian/Nepali cuisine, you NEED to come here. They have an all you can eat buffet for $ 7.99, y’all. I’m in foodbaby heaven. And it’s only 5 minutes from GSU Perimeter campus! It’s love. It’s real and it’s true. Roasted cardamom in the coffee. Singing the praises of how delicious everything is. Get the coconut soup!

Hands down one of the best dinners I have had in Atlanta! My mother and I have come here two years in a row for Mother’s Day and no trip to Atlanta is complete for her without a meal here. We are Indian and wanted to try authentic Nepalese cuisine. After a recommendation from a friend, we came here and were pleased to find some Indian dishes, and many others unique to Nepal. The customer service is wonderful and the chefs are very accommodating to prepare meals to different spice levels. The waitress was very helpful with recommendations as well. The food was phenomenal. Try the momo, momo soup, the Kathmandu Thali, the Nepalese Biryani and many other dishes. Very flavorful, fresh, very little oil, and hearty portions. They have great variety of beer from Southeast Asia and beyond. If you’re a foodie or just looking for an interesting food experience — definitely try this place. It’s located in a strip mall with lots of parking and if you go after 7:00 pm, the restaurant is open but not crowded at all.

You can find Kathmandu Kitchen & Grill at 926 Montréal Rd, Clarkston, GA30021 in small shopping center anchored by the Clarkston Thriftown, just south of where Montréal spits off and turns into N. Indian Creek. Parking is on the lot out front. I found Kathmandu quite by accident while in the area — which is admittedly a bit sketchy with people standing around for no apparent reason in a bit of a rundown area of Clarkston(which seems to have a few areas like that — I used to live across I285 at Venetian Estates off of Ponce so am very familiar with the area). Clarkston is a rather interesting area with local politicians that have some very liberal views(not a bad thing) — it also has a great mix of ethnic refugees that makes it very diverse and international. With that comes cuisine that you won’t find in very many areas. Katmandu is a smallish restaurant with only a few tables. There’s a bar at one end with beer and wine options and a stage near the entrance that I don’t know much about — the appear to host live music, probably in the evenings or weekends. I thought the place quaint if a little dark — I came by late in the afternoon to check out the buffet. The buffet was small but had some great options. Kathmandu is a fine example of Nepalese cuisine — sort of a cross between Indian, Chinese and Indonesian. Many of the flavors will seem very Indian but you’ll also find dumpling(momos) and noodle options you don’t typically see in Indian or Pakistani food. I find it most similar to Bangladeshi food(like Purnima, Panahar and Himalayan Spice) with naan breads that are a bit puffier/doughy around the edges. I tried pretty much everything on the buffet — I thought the flavors very distinctive and most excellent. My biggest objection to most Indian style buffets is that the food seems very weakly spiced, I guess to appeal to the masses. Her the food is very on-point. I think it’s better than the buffet offered Himalayan Spice, Himalayas or Panahar. Overall I thought the food excellent. There was only one person behind the counter and she was very nice. Next time I’ll explore more of the menu — but if you’re in the area and you want something different, Kathmandu is a great option. (also posted to my food blog)

Tonight meal was one for the books— or in this case the Unilocal!!! Makeshift circus recommends the«dinner for two». Either non-veg or veg. With a pint of Taj Mahal beer and a seemingly never-ending food paradise, this man MUSTDO another meal at KathMANdu. Believe it! —Oh !! and get the coconut soup If you know what’s good for you.

This is a very quaint restaurant. For lunch they have a buffet there are multiple items all in fact were delicious including the desert. I enjoyed every bite. I will definitely will go there again. It was reasonably priced 7:50 for the buffet for all you can eat and the staff was very friendly and concerning especially with what was on the buffet and if we wanted fresh items.

Great food! Good service! The servings are generous. I shared with my husband and he is a big dude! We had the Nepali dinner, with lamb, and shared it. Very tender. Enough for the two of us. The white rice was very pretty! My kids had the Kathmandu biryani with everything in it. It is the house special. Very good. We got the variety bread basket. Ohhh… It was good. I like the greasy one with the peas in the middle! Delish!

Kathmandu Kitchen and Grill is a small Nepali restaurant located in Clarkston, GA. The strip where the restaurant is located and the interior are both visibly run down, but the food really sets apart Kathmandu as a hidden gem in this small town. If you’re based in Decatur, it’s not too far of a drive from where you are, so definitely come out for a visit. If you’re further away, still come and try this food — THECHICKEN… One of my dear friends(a fellow Unilocal elite) introduced me to Kathmandu for the first time last year and brought me to their lunch buffet. If you’re comparing it to similar buffets like Café Bombay, you may be disappointed with the lack of variety, but I promise it’s worth. There’s about 8 options available at the line, with several curries, rice, naan and meats — sufficient for me. Not only is the price a steal(around $ 10 with tax/tip), but the food here is sooo good. The spicy chicken that they offer at the buffet is the dish I keep coming back to — and, unlike other places that say a dish is spicy when it really isn’t, this chicken is actually quite spicy. The curries and naan are pretty on par to what I’ve tried in the past, but there’s something about this restaurant that I really appreciate. Employees are always so friendly, the feeling of culture and diversity is so rich here, and the food never disappoints. Give it a try! 4 stars for me.

Not sure why I ever gave this place anything less than 5 stars. My bad… Remedied now! Since my last review: –we have also tried the Veggie Thukpa(veggie noodle soup served with two wedges of lime and minced habanero) and Chicken 65(crimson colored, deeply spiced fried chicken with a side of rice). Both are delicious. –It appears that the restaurant has gotten a paint job, possibly with new menus too. Still has keno though! –The spiciness of the orange dipping sauce that accompanies the momo dumplings has increased exponentially Everyone at our table was supremely satisfied and full tonight, though I lamented the lack of the spicy soybean appetizer and veggie momo I have come to love(they ran out). Next time, Kathmandu Kitchen!

The strip mall where this restaurant’s located is kinda run down and the décor is very basic but welcoming. It appears to be a family ran business. The staff are quite friendly. I went on a Sunday evening with a friend. Only one other table was occupied. I had goat curry, rice with naan. The naan was fresh and the curry was flavorful and spicy. The portions were generous and prices quite pocket friendly. They have a menu with good variety and I do plan to go back. PS: I gave them 4 stars because the wine my friend ordered was stale and they had to open another bottle.

First time eating here. I placed a to go order for lunch. The Goat Curry, rice, Dal, Masala Chai and Naan were out of this world. Goat Curry was falling off the bone, so tender, spicy and flavorful. It’s worth every penny! They are generous with portion size. This is definitely one of my new spots to indulge in food heaven regularly! I said forget taking pics and just dove in the food like Cookie Monster.sorry.the goat curry kept calling me!

Delicious food! Will come back again. However, DONT… Yes, absolutely don’t ask them to prepare the food more ‘spicy’ than the regular setting. We made this mistake and trust me – it was a KILLER! I come from the land of bhut jholakia but even I could not handle the burn after 10 seconds of having my first bite… Man vs Food — Dare you to try this extra ‘spiced’ version! However, that was our mistake. Just ask for the regular spices and you’ll have a great meal accompanied by outstanding service.

Kathmandu really epitomizes the idea of a «hidden gem» restaurant. Located in the Clarkston Plaza, it’d be easy to pass it by 100 times without noticing. But, once you try it, wow! The food is Nepalese(or Himalayan)…think border of India and China. Lots of noodle and dumpling(momo) choices that are definitely Chinese influenced, and curries nearly direct from India(with a different spice profile and much milder in heat level). The interior is nice and comfortable and the service is friendly(unless there’s a soccer game on). All in all, it’s a great dining experience, and exactly the kind of restaurant I love to see succeed.

We have been back several times now and are very satisfied with both menu and buffet variety and value. Their schedule is friendlier than others … open earlier than any I’ve seen(by 10:30am daily; 10am F/Sa/Su) and they do not close between lunch and dinner as virtually all others do.

4 stars… because who doesn’t love a cheap lunch buffet w/good food? Kathmandu is truly a hidden gem in Clarkston. The buffet itself is small, but it has all the staples of a solid Indian buffet that make everyone get up for more. Another plus side of this limited buffet: they can maintain a solid supply of all the food pretty easily and quickly; you never have to really wait for a new batch of tandoori chicken, goat curry, or [even] naan to come out. Gotta love that naan.

This place doesn’t look impressive. The Nepalese restaurant is in a run-down looking strip mall with some other international stores and a thrift store. I arrived at night, hoping for a defunct Vietnamese place, but I was tempted by the sign. When I walked in at 7PM, I was the the only customer. This greatly worried me, but I ordered anyways. The place seemed deserted but clean. The employees seemed to be watching a film dubbed in their language. After some discussion with the employees about several vegetarian options, I decided to taste the vegetarian thupka. It only took about 7 minutes for them to cook it and put it in the to-go cup. In the meantime, I talked with a teenage Neapalese guy about the country, politics, etc. A couple Nepalese guys walked in and had some shots while I was waiting. I paid and headed to my friend’s house and opened the cup. I was served a tremendous amount of food for $ 7. The smell was wonderful. The taste was amazing. Sort of an Indian flavored vegetable soup with spaghetti noodles. The noodles were perfectly cooked. Just excellent! I’m really impressed by the flavor and wish I could try more of their dishes to give you a better survey of what they have to offer. From this one experience, I already highly recommend this restaurant.

Tucked away in the Clarkston Plaza is this unassuming little restaurant. Even if you drive through this area often, you wouldn’t even know that there’s a treasure of a restaurant here. Some of you know that Clarkston is a melting pot of many different cultures, and Kathmandu Kitchen and Grill gives you a taste of Nepali culture. If you go during lunch, there’s a humble buffet in the corner. Not the most choices, but it covers your basics. Several vegetarian choices, two kinds of rice, goat curry, baked chicken… and then there’s the spicy chicken. I don’t even know what it’s called. But this is why I come here. It’s red. It’s has a slight vinegary-spicy-kindaliketobasco kick and then the aroma of authentic spices surrounds your mouth. This with a little bit of the mint chutney(the green sauce on the side), wrapped in fresh naan, and I promise you, this is all you’ll eat when you’re there. In fact, you’ll be driving around, studying for an exam, perhaps you’re taking a bath or laying down in bed, then BAM it’ll hit you — I really want that spicy chicken. The only con for me is that’s it’s kinda of a drive for me. But at only like $ 8 for ayce lunch buffet, it’s worth the drive. Plus the workers there are super nice and friendly. You’re also helping to support a local business in an area that can use the support. Check it out!

I came here a few years ago and wasn’t really impressed. I’m glad that I came back again recently with a group. 10 of us came on a Sunday night. The place was empty(we were the only table for most of the meal), the lighting was pretty dark inside I wondered if they were closing shop soon. The hubs joke that I should never expect much for ambience from ethnic restaurants, which is true. As long as the food is good… And the food was great! The hubs & I shared the non-vegetarian dinner for 2($ 30). It was a LOT of food: chicken pakora, chicken soups(spicy), shrimp & spinach, goat curry, naan, rice. It was a great deal for that much food. Everything was flavored well and had good spice to it. All of our friends enjoyed their dinner selections too. Service was fantastic as well. The waiter joked about my friend who kept needing his water refilled. «You like water, huh? Do you like the food too?» He was very friendly and fast. Don’t worry, the waiter spoke fluent English and could explain what was what. I’m glad this Nepali restaurant is around. Not sure why it was not more busy on a Sunday night. I hope this place does well. I plan to come back again!
