My husband and I were traveling on I-40 and looking for lunch options. We checked Unilocal for the nearest town — Clarksville, AR — and found good reviews for Fat Dawgz. We concur! We shared a combo plate — ribs, brisket and pulled pork, with slaw and green beans. The meat was really smokey, just the way we like it, and very tender and flavorful. Enjoyed the sides too. the staff was very friendly; service was prompt. Definitely a place we’ll try to get to again. We may have had better in Texas, but surprisingly good ‘cue for such a small community in AR.

Great place decked out with fun antique décor. A+++ for having a sweet little play are for little kids. The food we had was excellent. Fried pickles and fried green beans and brisket. Mac n cheese was just okay, nothing to write home about but not bad by any means. We walked in 10 minutes before close and they welcomed us. We ordered the bbq sampler which turned out later they were confused and didn’t put that order in so I cannot comment on how good that is. By the time the mistake was realized the kitchen was closed and our stomachs were already full so it all worked out.

Great food and fun atmosphere! Ordered a BBQ sandwich & fries and both were amazing! If you’re visiting Clarksville or are nearby, stop here! Meat has a great smoky flavor that blends well with the sauce.

We ate at four BBQ restaurants over the course of 9 days, from southcentral MO to eastcentral OK. This was the weakest of the four. It was fine BBQ and likely good for the town. It was just ok in terms of the region. It is an ok sauce and the meat was ok, too. Nothing too outstanding. The deep fried green beans were very good — never had that before. The waitstaff were friendly and helpful. My main complaint was that it feels very manufactured. It is lacking a deep BBQ soul and atmosphere. The tug at the heartstrings on the menu(husband had a stroke, so we changed plans to start this business) and by one waitstaff fell flat for us. It is clean and bright and family friendly. I’m sure it is a nice place to hang out to see and be seen in Clarksville. For me, it is not a destination for high quality BBQ.

They have moved since the last time I have been there– not a bad thing, just more room. Enjoy the food, full of flavor and being a Yankee, great prices. Got the carrot cake– not how my mom made it, but it was delightful. Service is great, albeit at a southern pace, but the employees are full on helpful. Wish I could go more often.

Food was good. You have to know me though to understand why only 4 stars. I love Texas barbecue but I live in South Carolina. So I would have to say I like all kinds of smoked meat. I know what I LOVE. This was good but not GREAT. Barbecue is totally like opinions… every has one. The meat had a great smoked flavor. I had the Monster Melt and where it was good I think it had too much bread. I think it would have done better on a bit softer roll. Other than that it was good. The Mac and Cheese was good but not southern BAKED Mac n Cheese. It was made with a sauce. I would eat there again if we passed through. If you are trying to decide should I stop by the answer is YES. Great place, great service and good atmosphere.

Great food, great staff, great atmosphere! Had the sampler platter with ribs, chicken and brisket. All three were fantastic, especially the ribs! Yum! The homemade potato salad was really good too. Will definitely be back when we come through Clarksville again!

I had the rib platter with slaw and BBQ beans. The ribs were fall off the bone perfect. The slaw was made in house and crisp and fresh. Beans were a sweet BBQ. Everything was absolutely tasty and fresh.

We ate here for dinner and what an amazing treat. The BBQ chicken was fantastic and the Mac & Cheese was super good. I had the fried green beans for an appetizer. They were crispy and really delicious. The kids had burgers and they loved them. To top it off, the deserts were to die for. The cinnamon roll was a slice of heaven(with butter on top) and the pecan cobbler was also amazing. Do yourself(and your tummy) a favor and stop by for a great meal and super friendly service.

Stopped in for lunch based on Unilocal reviews while travelling across country. We walked in five minutes after opening, and half the tables were already taken. We sat down, and literally five minutes later, every table was full. Hubby ordered the Pork BBQ sandwich with Fried okra. The Pork was good, and the BBQ sauce(homemade) was excellent. The Fried Okra was to-die-for! A light breading and fried perfectly in good, fresh oil that didn’t cover up or change the flavor of the delicate vegetable. I had the brisket sandwich and Mac and Cheese. The brisket was really well-flavored, and as tender as can be, and the mild sauce complemented it perfectly. The Mac and Cheese was okay, but nothing to write home about. We were too full to try any of the dessert selections, but they ALL looked and sounded fabulous! Glad we found this little gem… thanks, Unilocalers!

Really great BBQ. Attentive, friendly and efficient service. Pulled pork sandwich was awesome. Don’t forget dessert. Looks like everything is homemade. Small, locally-owned restaurant. Right next to the Courthouse. Glad I sought it out and stopped. Only a few minutes from I-40. Can’t wait to return.

Let the 5 star trend continue… On the road between destinations, my sister and I turned to Unilocal to find an off-the-beaten-path bbq stop. Success, success. In walks Fat Dawgz with its shiny red reviews and sauce-soaked recommendations. I wish I could insert a mini video of the local patrons turning their heads when we walked in the door. Ya know, that classic one-horse town«whothefuckareyou» look. I’m pretty sure I grew up in the town that invented the look. Lets not call it scary or mean, more of a curious stare down. Fresh meat, if you will. We found a spot at the booth and attempted to blend in. Sign number one that we were at the right place: it was packed!(weekday, lunchtime) We opted to go splitsies on the beef brisket lunch meal so that we could justify stuffing our faces with the peanut butter pie/giant Reeses-like treat for dessert. For sides, we went with green beans and fried okra. The portion size for the fried okra was quite generous — on the greasy side — but what do you expect when you order fried okra at a bbq joint? As for the brisket: delicious — I expected it to be more than what it was(more as in portion), but the flavor made me quickly forget the amount. Lastly, the dessert: they’re all made in house. It’s like the goodies you grew up seeing at church pitch-ins. Order a big glass of milk, you’ll need it.

Fat Dawgz Barbeque & Something Sweet is a locally owned and operated restaurant located in downtown Clarksville, Arkansas across the street from the courthouse. The cuisine is delicious home-made Barbeque and deserts to die for! The service is friendly, attentive and prompt without being intrusive. The menu is straight forward, easy to read, featuring appetizers, Kid’s Menu, fresh salads, Barbeque sandwiches, plates, great burgers and a long list of home made desserts priced to accommodate almost anyone’s budget! The premises is clean and comfortable accented with vintage photos celebrating early Clarksville and Johnson County historic events and citizens. The booth and table number plaques are creations of a local real estate agent and friend of the owners. We enjoyed the Monster Melt sandwich… barbeque of your choice topped with sauteed onions, cole slaw and a special cheese blend melted between a fresh baked hoagie roll made in house. The sandwich is large enough for two adults and at a price of just under $ 7, a real bargain! We had the crisp but crunchy fried green beans for our appetizer and shared a home made brownie sundae drizzled with warm chocolate syrup made in house. The portions are large enough to share and everything we ordered was perfectly prepared. This dining experience is worth the 3 minute trip off I-40 to downtown Clarksville to enjoy. The entire staff is friendly and they definitely live up to the writing on the wall… May you enter as our guests and leave as our friends. Clarksville is situated off I-40 about mid-way between Little Rock and Fayetteville and is the place to dine on Razorback game day! If this owner decides to go public, I’ll invest in their stock!
