Stephen King could write a story about this place. Understaffed at night and during the day a few more staff for the purposes of appearances. They are ONLY about appearances. They wrought so much grief upon our family and masqueraded as Rehabilitation. The real rehabilitation started in earnest only after we got my Octogenarian Grandmother out of there. The staff likes to laugh joke, carry on amongst one another, read magazines and drink coffee but will not answer Call lights and actually chewed out my Grandmother for using her call button. Often we would find that they had disabled them, as I tested them on several occasions. The sanitary conditions in the room were so bad that I have picture evidence of a urine filled bed pan lying on the sink beside her toothbrush. A Nurse who worked with Gateway Home Healthcare quit after the second day when she was helping a patient in the restroom and the patient fell on her — the nurse pulled the emergency call in the restroom and was left pinned under the patient for an hour. She quit that day and is willing to testify to such. My grandmother was unable to feed herself after coming off of life support because her muscles had atrophied and her food would be cold long before she was fed if she was fed at all. No physical rehab was done here — I very much suspect medication was pocketed by the staff and recorded as being administered as she was in constant pain until she was brought home and meds administered. They told her she would never walk again and lambasted her — so that an already stressed and grieving family would have to come out late on a cold January nights to calm her down and because we showed up every day to check on her we were treated like a huge ass pain by the so called nurses. The«Doctor» never examined my Grandmother, never spoke to any of us and the private ambulance service they provided to bring her home stood there with his arms crossed while watching us struggle to get her inside the home — then cursed us in the driveway. The doors should be shut and a a full investigation should be conducted on this facility. In retaliation for our speaking out they attempted to have her declared incompetent to have her pension taken away. We easily won that case of competency with thew VA and legal action will be taken now that she is walking, vacuuming, feeding her dogs and fixing her own meals after Gateway Home Healthcare, My mother and I did the REALPHYSICALTHERAPY work. She came home unable to even walk to the bathroom after two months in this god-forsaken place. It was grueling and these lazy staff members shouldn’t be working in a burger joint much less a place where Empathy for fellow human beings is required. I hope that no one ever has to go through the horror show that we did — hence my writing of this review. I honestly feel that these people were deriving pleasure from watching others suffer and treating people poorly. At the least completely desensitized to the feelings of anyone but their selves and only out for a paycheck. Be WARNED — your loved one will not last long once they end up here. The place looks clean and appears to have nice facilities but no one is ever seen using them and w visited all hours of the day. My Grandmother was often left sitting on a bedpan for 20 minutes and once after waiting 45 minutes for a bedpan she was left sitting on it for another 45 minutes. absolute ghouls run this place. Any positive reviews would either be coming from shills for the company itself or perhaps Alzheimer’s patients families — who in fact are physically in tact but have mental issues than can be handled with heavy sedatives. Never ONCE did we see the«physical therapist» and my grandmother could never tell us what the physical therapist did with her that day. One night a woman came in my Grandmothers room and was feeling around on the walls and was in there for almost 20 minutes– my grand-mother being totally helpless before a «nurse» retrieved the woman. This was a time in our life when we needed empathy and support the most as there is only my mother, my Granny and me and instead we were treated worse than animals. We tried weeks in advance to get the medical equipment she would need before she came home and we kept being assured by the staff that it would happen and of course the didn’t do that either. By then we had come to expect such things and had to retrieve our own equipment. We would always get conflicting information on extremely important medical matters — one nurse would tell us she«definitely does Not have pneumonia» and another would say«no of course you know she has pneumonia» The only had that knows what the other is doing works in Billing and Accounts Receivable I can guarantee you. No one should have to go through this — it was the longest two months of my life– really the longest 9 months by the time WE got her back to some semblance of her former self.
