Wow I literally left because I was so disgusted with their customer service. Asked a lady working in produce where the cherries are and she barley looks at me and with a attitude says there in the front like I was mentally challenged for asking her where the cherries are. I don’t know if it’s bc I’m black at the Clayton Safeway but that service was horrible and pissed me off to the point were I don’t even want to go to Safeway gosh what are you teaching your people? I stop by this Safeway during my gap hours between classes at CSUEB. It’s not very far at all and it’s in a cute little plaza that has a lot of restaurant options if you’re hungry before or after grocery shopping. I come here to grab their salads or pre-prepared sandwiches and rolls :). Or the chicken tenders are always a nice choice. They are big and juicy. Everyone who has helped me so far has been very nice and friendly. All the employees are constantly smiling and laughing :). Before I go, I make sure to grab my favorite Starbucks drink! The baristas I have encountered so far are super cheerful. Random note: this location is in Clayton and doesn’t require a fee for plastic bags. There’s a –1 star because although the seating area is cozy and clean, the outlet doesn’t work. I wanted to stay there for a while to do some homework but the outlet wouldn’t charge anything :(. Otherwise, this Safeway location is pretty neat.

Stopped at this Safeway while on my way to Pittsburg. I love that they have a shopping cart with a car attached so I could shop and push my two kids at the same time. They don’t like sitting in the cart so this definitely kept them entertained. The checkout lane was quick and the cashier was very friendly. She saw that I had my hands full so one of the baggers helped me to my car. I’ve only been to this Safeway twice and I was happy with my experience.

I have lived here in Clayton for some 20 years &, as a consequence, have shopped at our local Safeway grocery store many-many(convenience) times. This has to be the least friendly, least customer service oriented grocery store of all time. The Lucky store, just around the corner or, the Safeway store just down the street(Clayton Rd. & Treat Blvd.) are so much the other way, it is not even funny. I have been in management, marketing, & sales my entire adult life — I guess Safeway just doesn’t get it, i.e., a grocery store is a grocery store(they all more-or-less sell the same products at the same price-points). What makes some of them different is the people, the customer service, the interaction, & the friendliness. I will not be back again. RGJW.

–1 your customer service(female) working tonight 2÷9÷2016 around 6: pm was pretty rude — I called and talked to Mike, I asked him if his money order machine was working and he went to check for me(puts me on hold which was fine) but then a female answered and I asked her about the money order machine and all she said was «Well I’m going to lunch so you can come by tomorrow we close at 8pm» Really? Do you not have anyone else to cover her? Unacceptable!

Mary in the bakery is fantastic and goes above to make sure her customers are happy. She made my grandson so happy with his birthday cake. It was a huge hit at his party this week-end. I recommend anyone try get out. You’ll not be disappointed.

Ah the neighborhood Safeway. Our primary grocery store since I was a kid. All they way back since 1990! Phew! It’s a admittedly average store. Nice, not spectacular. But by no means some transcendent experience. Growing up with this store one can see that they’ve managed to keep it clean and organized throughout the years. Can’t ask for much more than that!

It’s not the largest Safeway in the east bay but it is by far the friendliest. Everyone here smiles, are very welcoming and call me by name. A special shout out to Love, she is amazing and provides amazing customer service. Great parking and centrally located, this is where I do all my shopping.

This review is for the deli only. We shop here every week and spend about $ 250.00 a week. We purchase meat for sandwiches EVERY week and EVERY week we encounter the same lousy customer service! The workers behind the counter literally try to pretend they don’t see you waiting. And then when someone actually HAS to help you because you won’t go away, it is like they are doing you some huge favor! DELIMANAGER-PLEASENOTE: THECUSTOMERSTANDINGATTHECOUNTERSHOULDBETHE #1PRIORITY! This store is the closest to our house, but if things don’t improve we will be taking our business elsewhere. So sad.

Nice store. Fruit, veggies and meats are usually better than Lucky Stores. Sometimes not. Friendly staff Parking lot is terrible! Would rather have parking spaces at angles. Currently I really like that Safeway still has cherries and they are from the state of Washington(within the U. S!) Yeay!

Still with the loss prevention guy following me out and watching me get in my car. I know how to steal — and I’m gonna take your store now so hard for liquor in a snatch and dash that you’ll have to fire that asshole to make up the difference. Sincerely, A former $ 160\week customer who is now the worst nightmare your store has ever had

They finally got a bulk section! I now have a reason to shop here regularly. It has a nice tea selection, I love being able to try a small amount of tea before committing to a large quantity of a particular flavor. It also contains a small spice section where you can get as little or as much as you want. I love bulk spices because with the bottled spices you are just paying for the brand and the container.

I really like this store. It is definitely a little older store but I find that it is always really clean and well cared for. It seems like whenever I come here I am always greeted when I enter and asked if I need help finding anything. Things in this store are easy to find and well placed. The people that work here are always very polite and willing to help. I will be coming back here for sure.

Would you like to know another reason I am shopping less at your store? Your cheese prices. They are the highest around here. Between Clayton CA and Lafayette CA that is. I don’t like store brand cheeses. The quality level I like isTillamook Cheddar, Sargento, Frigo or the other Mozzarella brand. I can hardly ever find cheese under 37.5 Cents an oz. I wont pay higher normally. I buy it when it’s about 31 cents an oz. I can find cheese at that price almost always at Lucky’s, just around the corner from my house. Also at Trader Joes, which I usually pass two or three of them on my way to and from work. And they have a nicer variety in that price range. There is also Foodmaxx about a half mile up the street and they finally took my advice and got an express lane. Also Costco has great prices on cheese. So you see you leave my no choice when it comes to buying cheese. And OMG! What is your markup on Ben n Jerry’s ice cream? And the gas reward do me no good. I don’t want to drive half an hour away to pleasant Hill for gas. And Chevron is way to high for me. And your apple prices? Oh boy, I sure don’t go to Safeway for apples anymore. Oh and I forgot Sprouts. I pass there 2 – 3 times a week. And they have rbst free, or however it’s spelled, cheese at awesome prices! Who is pricing your stuff anyway? Are they really looking at surrounding stores and comparing prices they are charging. Oh well I don’t expect a change. But just thought I’d tell you why I shop at your store less and less. And hey your rating scale below doesnt mention cleanliness. It used to be that they floors and the conveyer belts at the check out were always clean or being cleaned. The floors are always dirty, I’m so tempted to demonstrated how to use a mop when I go in. And the check out conveyers. They are filthy! They are covered w/spills, always! The cashier used to always be cl eaning them. Why has that stopped? If I see spills that means germs, right? Possibly from chicken or other meat, or maybe dairy or cleaning products. Who Knows? Do you think I want to put my groceries down to pick up more germs to take home and put on my counter or in my fridge? Does nobody think about this? Does nobody notice? Do you mind if I clean the conveyer myself before I put my groceries down?

Walked in here around 9:45 and hungry. What I was hoping for was for the deli counter to be open because I love me some Safeway sandwiches. However when i saw that everything was put away and covered, I was not surprised nor upset. Instead of the sandwich I craved I went checked out one of the many refrigerated shelves across from the deli. Among the selection of salads to choose from I chose the Safeway Selects: Mozzarella and tomato salad. Checking out was interesting. I got in line at the self check out first because the machines were on, the lights were on, plus there were people using them. An employee standing at the end of the machines like a guard told me in an irritated tone that I had to go to the regular checkout. I stood where I was, confused, and then he repeated himself again, his tone of voice rising. So I walked over to the only register open and was quickly rung up. The cashier was quick and polite, but her tone of voice had some irritation in it as well. The«I just want you to leave so we can close.» tone of voice. My salad rang up almost a two dollars more than the sale price said, even after scanning my club card, but at that point I didn’t care enough to argue it. I just wanted to get out of there. On the bright side, my salad was actually quite good.

11−20−14 Today I had a coupon that would give me $ 10.00 off of my total bill, if I were to buy $ 100.00 in gift cards also with my 25.00 in grocery purchases. I bought 4 Target gift cards worth 25.00 each & did not get my 10.00 off. I asked the cashier, Michael about the error but he sent me to cust serv where I was also told that not all gift cards were applicable. I asked if I could exchange them for other applicable gift cards but was told that I was SOL unless I called Target. She tried to blame Target for the error but I believe that ITISONYOUSAFEWAY, for not posting a list of participating retail stores where customers can view them before purchasing the wrong cards. You suck Safeway. YOUSUCKBAD. MERRYFRICKINXMASDOUCHEBAGCOMPANY.

Pros: Great wine selection. Cons: They NEVER have enough cashiers or baggers. Nine out of ten times I end up bagging my own groceries. Half the time I spend way too much time waiting in long lines to pay for my groceries.

I have never, and will probably never ever, be a fan of Safeway. However, I am thankful this particular store is close enough to us, for those pure convenience reasons. I love living just on the boarder of Clayton for so many reasons, however, I have to say, although I like this Safeway more than others, it still has some painfully annoying features about it. The Bads: First off, the parking. I don’t think I have ever encountered a more cramped, tight Safeway parking lot. It can truly be a pain trying to find a parking spot here during the day or evening. Also, I really don’t understand why they put a cart parking station in just about every other parking space… I mean, do they really want enable peoples laziness? They don’t have any Isle or section dedicated to health items. And, their organic produce section is minimal and way over priced. The Goods: I will have to say, they have an EXCELLENT wine selection. And, Thursday through Sunday, they have a wine connoisseur go-to guy, to answer any wine questions and perhaps guide you in making the right decision… definitely one of the highlights at this store. And although the service isn’t as bright and chipper compared to other stores such as Trader Joes, I do have to say, the service I have received at this Safeway is FAR more professional and accommodating compared to the majority of Safeway’s I have ever visited. Although I am still not quite a fan per say, I will probably continue to come here at least once a week for some specific deals.
